Hey, at least we got Terique Owens out of the 2024 son-of-a HOF-49er draft class. Well, Gore should be in some time soon.
Brenden Rice went to the Chargers in the 7th round
Frank Gore Jr wen to Buffalo as a UDFA
For once a draft went pretty much how I hoped it would. Focussing on the O line, defensive backfield, and grabbed a couple dynamic WRs to boot. Even the obligatory raRB is a speed-burning mismatch for defenses.
The wonks for the most part, minus Mel Kiper’s disembodied helmet-hair-head, liked our draft. Don’t mean shit, but there you have it. Your 2024 49ers draft class.
Seems like a solid draft overall, but these things are always a crapshoot. All they can do is address needs then coach these guys up, and that’s what they did. Now comes the dead zone until training camp fires up, with mini camps and OTA’s thrown in as a teaser. The NFL off season always seems really long.
I’m really interested to see how Purdy progresses with a full, healthy off season under his belt. Early reports are good. If he gets even better this year, we may actually feel confident say we have a true franchise QB.
First things first, GET BA SIGNED!
Yeah this is another true dead time for the NFL. The next spectacular event will be the times and dates of games. And you can bet they will make a very big deal about it. Whatever makes a buck.
We didn’t have the best positions in this draft and not much ammo to move up. On paper it looks like we got some quality talent. Hope it works out.
I’m happy with our draft. I don’t think it was great, but I do believe it was useful. Not addressing the TE position was disappointing. Maybe Jennings can play a little TE? Maybe Latu is ready to step up? We’ll see.
I think Demeco stole our TE Berger. Stover from Ohio State went right in front of us.
They snagged a good size UDFA TE however.
https://nfldraftdiamonds.com/2024/02/mason-pline-2/
He looks good on paper. Unfortunately for him, not good enough to be drafted. I’ll be rooting for him. He’s a former BB player, so you would think he is probably very athletic.
yeah TE was a hole. They must have some kind of good feeling about Latu ti
ignore it
Another Safety added via UDFA from Vandy
http://Jaylen Mahoney, safety, San Francisco 49ers Mahoney was a reliable defensive back for five seasons, making 247 career tackles. He also had 16 tackles for loss and four interceptions in four years as a starter and one as a reserve.
NJ, puni had 4.40 short shuttle for OG which was 99th percentile. Could not find official combine numbers but 33 3/8 arm and 5.35 40.
so is he slow for outside zone run blocking but good feet for pass pro. That 99th was for OG would be lower for OT.
5.35 matches McKivitz so.our right.side does not do much outside zone?
I think stats are a good. barometer for the player to succeed. But I think heart(desire), and intelligence is where a player excels. My guess is half of this years 1st rd class just ends up being mediocre or close to it.
combine stats needed for reliable standards
college game film is not nfl trained athletes on the other side. So it seems that Pearsall with scrawny arms with 30 7/8 length will be jammed at the line with press man. Not a 1st rder IMO.
BTom I’m hoping Pearsall is a solid KR at this point.
I didn’t see his selection at 31 coming either. Not expecting much else until we see him in game action.
If he’s as good a route runner as they say can you imagine what a 4 WR set would do to defenses. Purdy reads pretty quick. I think he will be a contributor by mid-season. My understanding is our playbook is complicated. I believe Cowing will probably be our KR but then WDIK.
The way is looks to me with the way the draft fell is Shanny just might open up the offense and go on attack mode. We finally have a QB that could do it and D’s will still have to respect our running game. Maybe he heard the screaming through the TV’s to not be so predictable with the run game.
does it make sense that Pearsall is used to force man to man coverage that limits blitzing .
Tom- I have no idea what they are going to do. I have just been playing out some scenarios in my head. I guess opening up the offense is more of a wish projection than anything else. All it takes to screw up anything is a couple of major injuries.
use a quick strike attack with many skill players spread out including kittlr
Need olinr better at pass pro like puni
I like the speed the 49ers added in this draft, especially at WR’s where Pearsall &Cowing can add. They both could return punts/Kick offs as well. Both 4.38 speed and both could play in the slot especially Cowing though short in stature is very elusive.Shanny will find away in matchups to get both the ball..
Never enough weapons so I see 5WR’s only they will have Aiyuk,Samuel,Jennings,Pearsall,&Cowing pretty damm strong and they can dump Conley,Gray,Bell,Taylor for sure imo..
Bell showed some stuff last year they probably keep 3 on PS
Gray definitely. conley as well. Taylor may be odd man out after getting Cowing.
Over on the 49er home page if you click on team and then transactions if your like me and forgot about half of em
continuation of last post. No wonder we didn’t go DL we got a bunch of players who are new TE’s, LB’s, etc. We are gonna have a different look. I just hope we attack on both offense and defense. I hate sitting back and waiting for stuff to happen.
Staley is uber aggressive. I’m glad he has a coach in front of him. No idea about Sorenesen but he HAS to be better than the Wilks debacle.
Yeah, Staley hasn’t had much luck lately but I don’t really know his prior situations. I do know his time a SD was a disaster. This time of year for football is pretty much the same as ST is to me in baseball. Full of hope.
He’s was LB coach for Denver and Chicago, and was DC for the Rams in 2020. They were the #1 defense but they had a ton of talent.
His coaching was all over the place. I mean really, just going for 6 FGs instead of going for 4th downs over the course of his coaching career and he would be considered a good coach.
Thanks.
Niners did real well adding to the secondary with both CB Green&Safety Mustapha both very physical smart players.Green will probably start out covering slot receivers but can easily play outside.Mustapha great value pick with the uncertainty of Hufanga injury ( who I still love he’s made a lot of big plays!) Hufanga/Mustapha has a nice ring to it,Ward,Lenior,Green,Hufanga,Mustapha,Thomas , maybe Womack? I’m liking this backfield potential…
Meant Secondary potential…
And also their is NO WAY Terique Owens makes the team except as a Practice Squad candidate after the Niners added Pearsall&Cowings to an already deep WR’s amount of players.
Looks like Puni could be the ‘Swing’ guy on the OL.

Another UDFA C was added with ties to WVU.
Seems as though we have something in common with their OL coaching and/or ZB system perhaps?
Gotta do some digging to see what the connection is 😉

Looks like Matt Moore is the guy. Not sure if he is tied in any way to anyone on our staff?

Isaac Guerendo got a 99 (1st place RB) athleticism rank.
We’ve added some speed to the roster. Hope they all contribute.
thx. Seems very good as OG in pass pro so much better than burford. But slow 40 matches McKivitz so no outside zone on right side. Seems TE help still needed in run game.
Projected ceiling is average starter so we have our OG sometime this season I hope.
Geez, what steaming pile Romo turned into.
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bill-romanowski-files-for-bankruptcy-as-government-seeks-15-5-million-in-back-taxes
Pretty sure Bill used more than just steroids.
This year is for sure the last window for a SB with the current squad. We will have to at least dump Deebo whether we get something for him or not. But he won’t be the only one. We shall see what kind of injuries we have throughout the season. It will be time to get younger.
Looks to me like the Niners have 2 more years Winder. Purdy’s new contract will bite in its second year, he basically gets paid signing bonus money his first year.
I do expect Deebo to be gone for the start of the 2025 season along with Greenlaw, Elijah Mitchell and Hufanga and maybe Mooney Ward.
The Niners have been taking potential replacements with that in mind.
Yeah, 12th it could very well be another year. The way teams move money around who knows.
No surprise here…
