3 Rounds in the Books

Well, after all my bitching and prevaricating about their 1st round pick, the 49ers pretty much did what I wanted in these first 3 rounds. Get offensive line help, corner help, and WR help.

They just didn’t do it in the order I preferred. Pearsall sounds like a solid WR, Green seems to be a guy who has improved markedly every year he plays, and Dominick Puni gave up 0 sacks in over 700 snaps in college. Sweet.

Really like the Puni pick. Trent Williams is great but we need a backup. Puni looks like the real deal. These draft grades are not worth the vapor they are printed on but this looks good to me so far. We have 6 picks today, and since this is when the team usually drafts well, got to wonder what they hit on in these later rounds.

We need a run stuffing DT, a safety and another CB. If there is a decent TE out there, I would like that too.

I think making proclamations like this draft is a dud is beyond premature when they still have 8 picks left. Forgive me, but I’ll trust the evaluations of Shanahan and Lynch and give all these guys the chance they deserve. They’ve seen the film, they’ve seen them play and they’ve interviewed them. So-called experts in this sport are a joke and don’t know any more than anyone else. Let’s see what they do today and tomorrow.

This is my favorite day of the draft. Since none of the 3 already drafted are gonna come out swinging right away we will have to wait and see before we judge. I will be honest I do see a little bit of Baalke in this draft so far. But at least we didn’t draft any players with incurable ACL’s. Should be fun today.

WR in the first was puzzling, I’m guessing Pearsall fills the Trent Taylor role that Kyle originally wanted for his offense. Taylor looked great and opened up the shallow routs until he got hurt.

CB and OT look solid but none of us knows how any college kids will work out, so far I agree with Chuck and Buger, they picked for the obvious needs.

Today I would like DT, RB, TE, LB

Way to soon to talk about grades but it looks decent on paper. What say you NJ?

    • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Hard to know 12th as I hadn’t been able to get my Draft research done as I normally would have. Thought DT would have been a better option at 31 once Baltimore snatched what many thought was our OT.

Can’t be the Jr GM and criticize much without my usual data. Gotta think we got punked by Demeco too on TE Stover right in front of us?

We can only hope for some stars to emerge.

  5. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Not so big hair anymore Mel Kiper has Pearsall as a reach in round 1 and Green as the biggest reach in round 2, he says Green was a round 4/5 guy. That alone ensures both players are going to have great careers.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

      That is a true statement.

    • Berger's avatar Berger says:

The reason Green was rated down is his 4.49 speed. He is so quick that I think he would run faster if asked again. I think he had a bad run. But then, that is why we have Hufanga, his 40 time.

Lynch said he covered two picks from this year’s first round and did well. If you go by combine numbers, he’s a reach. If you go by film, he’s a great value. I saw how hard it was to shake him off on film. I’m sold.

lol!! No shit! Hair-helmet has to be the worst prognosticator out there and he’s been wrong for 41 years running.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Numbers tell you something, but film tells you more. Which is why Keenan Allen fell to the 3rd round coming of a knee injury and his slow 40 time. I was so pissed we didn’t draft him out of Cal. Then again, same with Aaron Rodgers but I digress.

Same with Jerry Rice. His numbers were never great, but look at the college tape and you get why he was so great.

And hey, if Lynch can judge anything, it is defensive backs. I’ll go with him on that pick.

  7. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I think we do real well with the UDFA’s. I love when they put out the new list. Not sure if coming to a winning org is a plus since their playing time might not be much for awhile. I guess an lot of that speaks to the coaches.

the two compensatory picks at end of 5th go to Jets. Is there a trade about to happen.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

134: Jacob Cowing, WR, Arizona Small pesky guy with a lot of speed.

  11. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I can guess we go TE next and then a QB. That is unless they think Latu is ready to go

  12. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Looks like TO Jr joined as an UDFA.

Here comes the post Draft round up

  13. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I feel it was a really good draft this year. I think we got some real players and I am happy that they are now 49ers. You can just tell they are thrilled to be here.

  14. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Frank Gore Jr goes to Buffalo UDFA.

    Yikes?

    • alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Glad we could accommodate NJ’s “FAT MAN BALLIN” UDFA pick are is it USDA Prime Beef 🥩? Either way plug the middle up with an unmovable force like the days of Will Wilfork? Pats NT…

      • NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

I’ve had Wilfork envy for decades AK.

Irony of it all is we passed him over. Plug dat shit up and keep the LBs clean.

Did you see Haloti Nata announcing picks for Baltimore? Had his 3 son’s with him.

Write up a future contact! 😁
