10 Days till the Draft – all Quiet in the NFC West

Well, there is this. Brock Purdy apparently saved a newscaster and her dog from getting attacked by a coyote in the Bernal Heights neighborhood where Purdy was filming (surprise) a John Deere commercial.

“We’re shooting this commercial on a hill on the outside of the city,” Purdy said. “I see this thing trotting by that has a big tail. I was like, ‘That looks like a mini wolf.’ No one else was gonna scream, so I screamed, ‘Yo, there’s a coyote!’ That thing went running off. It could’ve been an ugly day on the shoot, but we saved her.”

Turns out it was CBS News Bay Area anchor Sara Donchey.

“I was walking my dog when this happened,” Donchey said back in February. “I was watching from Bernal Heights Park when I suddenly heard Brock scream, ‘Coyote!’ I turned around and saw the biggest coyote I’ve ever seen sneaking up behind me and my dog. When I walked down the hill, one of the film crew guys said, ‘Hey, Brock Purdy saved your life.’ Not exactly, but it’s a good story to tell next season.”

Hey, it’s fucking slow now.

Draft O linemen.

So, we will continue to wait for Brandon Aiyuk to get paid, as he so richly deserves, and to see whether or not he decides to hit that follow-back button.

above is some more brown nose utterings from an analyst. What would Walsh do? Draft boards for OT and WR need to be thorough and complete.

Big boy decision time between now and day 1 , April 25. Round 1 will have 32 excitable boys. How many will be new niners.

It’s all about the budget not the need for continuity at this point.

Can we win without Deebo and BA? Who’s to know? Hard to replace either one IMO.

Given the choice of gambling on keeping BA for his final year is worth consideration just to keep the gang together I suppose.

Right now, they have control of both. In a year it’s only Deebo and he’s shown signs of damage already. If there is an option to use leverage now I think it’s the smart move. The only caveat is which guy brings the best exchange I guess. I’ll leave that to Lynch and Paraag for now.

This Draft class has pieces we need and, getting a Rookie Contract bodes well to secure a long term deal for Brock. If they can nail a stud OT and opt to roll the dice on another WR, this group is pretty deep.

Malachi Corley is “yac king* of this draft who the niners have already looked at and is in NN article of 20 best receivers in draft.

So if scheme continues and this guy is drafted then deebo is tradeable next offseason when his dead cap is lower.

Gotta get younger and cheaper. First two picks need to be OT unless BA gets traded. Then it is 2 picks in 1st rd and 2nd OT in rd 2.

Trent retiring and Deebo or BA gone fixes our cap IMO.

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

They have so many low picks that they can bundle into higher slots. They don’t necessarily need to get into the mid-1st, they just need to get higher picks. And hit them. Trent ain’t retiring barring an injury-filled disaster of a season.

    He’s getting Deebo 2.0 comparisons too –

Maybe the silly Dubs can draft a clue and play their young guys next season. They looked old and tired against the Kings and I loved every minute of it. Now you can jump on the Pelicans bandwagon. Light the beam!

WR Trent Taylor signed back with the Niners on a one year contract. He looked promising at first but then injuries put him off the team IIRC

  7. bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

if a BA trade happens it seems JAX is more logical with much more cap room than steelers. Both need BA. If retaining not feasible then mid 1st rd pick will be what we get in return from both.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    We aren’t gonna trade him.

compare BA arm length, 40 time, etc to brian Thomas and Adonis Mitchell. both may be available at #17 or #20 for a trade.

great thing about BA is his consistency on route running. He beats press coverage. The 2 rookies have similar arm length and faster 40 at 4.33

Potential for a trade is there for steelers or jaguars.

It took BA into his 3rd season to show out. His second year was the “dog house” year. Rookies very rarely are at his level from the get go, yes there are a few exceptions but if you are betting a SB on it, and the 9ers are, it’s a bad bet.

I agree with Chuck, 9ers are all in as they should be and BA isn’t getting traded. I would think Deebo is getting traded next year as he is showing some signs of breaking down and Christian does many of the same things Deebo did.

Which is why the JAX / Zay Jones scenario made the most sense to me 12th.

Player swap for a starter with a manageable contract and a move up from 31.

My heart says to draft Rice’s kid along with Gore’s kid, and for sure Luke McCaffrey. We will get our olinemen along the way. With Purdy at the helm that would shore up our offense for years to come. We Could do that by trading back with our 1st rounder for a 2nd and 3rd. Fuck it, we would still be able to draft Oline and DB’s.

  11. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

I actually think they might trade up Winder maybe with Miami giving up pick 31-63 to move up to 18 and get Alabama OT JC Latham probably the best RT in the draft and a great pairing with LT Williams and Guard Aaron Banks and could slide into the LT spot once Trent decides to hang ‘em up.Buts it’s the right side of the line they HAVE to address!Yeah giving up a 2nd isnt ideal but to get a top OT that’s what it would cost. It’s win now baby!!

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

kat- if he’s that good I doubt he’s there at 18 but you never know since from what I am reading it’s gonna be a QB, WR, OL, frenzy.

  12. bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Ryan Williams and John Lynch are best friends, Lynch was his best man at his wedding. 😊

if true on NN then BA most likely stays. He is agent for 3 other niners also.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

The only way we dump BA would be if his demands are unrealistic, IMO. And even then we still got him for 2 more years if we want. We have already invested a lot of time with him and he is one of the best WR’s in the league. We do need to draft some replacement WR’s the next couple of years. I don’t really know but it seems to me drafting OL’s and WR’s have about the same bust % across the board. They are both big gambles in the first couple of rounds.

  13. Winder's avatar Winder says:

This is the longest 10 days of the year.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Arch-nemesis Roman Gabriel died today. Fucker used to beat the Niners like a drum for years. He musta won 12 in a row against the Niners. Couldn’t stand the guy.

Amazing how much more intense the feelings are when you are a kid. I STILL hate Dallas from all those playoff losses.
