Well, I guess since ol’ Pete used to sign everyone off of our FA wire, we are doing the same with their coaches. The Nijers recently signed KJ Wright, a stalwart member of the Legion of Boom, to be their assistant LB coach. Throw in new DC Nick Sorensen, he himself a member of the Seahawks coaching staff for 8 years, previous DC Robert Saleh was an assistant for 3 years there, Richard Sherman, and there you go. The Seattle Solution.
Hey, whatever works. Seattle has been nothing less relentless on defense for a long time, so I like that direction.
Other than that, the combines are over, and we still need to beef up the O line. The Niners have 11 picks, so they should be able to work toward someone they like down the board. Tomlinson is out there. He’d be a solid backup should he so desire to be one.
Gonna be quiet for a while football-wise though.
Giants? (Got to keep Dj Loo interested!) Well, they signed Matt Chapman, so I wonder when JD Davis gets traded. I’d love to see us be able to find someone better than Slater in the OF. Got to live with Yaz I guess. The SS spot is suddenly weird with Fitzgerald, Luciano, and now Nick Ahmed vying for ABs. The rest is a mish-mash of platoonies and young guys. The pitching is about 6 guys from being good.
Still waiting for some kind of trade involving JD, Slater, Bart, and Villar for a bag of balls and 3 fungo bats.
Good stuff.
Ah, Jorma and Jack, one of my all time favorite albums that I absolutely wore out. Great pick! ….. JD, Slater, Bart, and Villar… I’d add Conforto to that list. You’re right, SS seems dodgy as Luciano doesn’t appear ready to grab it for his own. I kinda like Fitzgerald (unlike most of the other ‘no names’ that have come and gone) and Ahmed could be a surprise. I also still think Schmitt will be good. I just want to see Matos and maybe Ramos get more looks in the OF, which means a few of those other guys need to go. This team will score runs, but starting pitching is still the biggest concern, or they’re going to need to score an absolute shitload of runs… (And I know this is a Niners page, but thanks for tossing in the G’s now and then, for Loo and me…) 🙂
Deebo WR1???? SERIOUSLY???? The guy can’t beat good man coverage. He’s become a bad route runner and is not longer running a full route tree. Deebo is the one the 49ers need to trade (post June 1st).
Above from NN Allforfunnplay in comments
BA is the #1 WR as far as targets go. As long as Deebo is in the lineup the defense usually put multiple people on him. He has to be accounted for. That is one of him most valuable assets.
Love me some Hot Tuna.
Gotta figure Luciano starts off the season in Sactown. Matos has done everything management has asked and he’s having a strong enough spring, to push trading either Slater or Conforto (probably have to eat some $s on that one). Don’t know why they haven’t pulled the trigger on a Bart trade yet (probably won’t get much at this point), I think Villar has an option or two(?), and we should be able to get something decent for Davis.
If nothing else, I think this team is shaping up to be a fun one to watch.
Would like for them to get Montgomery to round out the rotation.
Yeah, but we’ll probably end up with a heavy incentive type contract for someone like 40 year old wacky Zack.
My guess is they trade Davis for some pitcher but maybe there aren’t done spending money yet.
Oh boy. Man, never saw Traffic, and this shows looks amazing, but I did see the Arc of a Diver tour. If you like background music this is great.
listened to the whole thing. Shades of Santana. Lots of lineup changes.
Liked it.
Still got John Cipollina though. Love it.
Never heard Mozambique before. Very Santana-ish.
Watched Rodon just give up a first pitch bomb to the Rays. Derp!
Fucking pisses me off seeing Soto on the Yanksvtho. They got him for a bunch of nothings. But hey he’s on a one-yer deal.
Wait till next year!
Yeah, def still need another pitcher, maybe even 2. But also agree that the team could be exciting as it currently is. While I might think Z shit the bed with the pitching, the team should be fun. The only other thing I don’t like is the use of these opt-outs. Chapman has already stated he will likely opt out after 1 year, which I guess is why the team announced it as a 1-year deal. It’s just not how you build a sustainable team, but I guess it’s the way it is now….
If you can’t win a Lombardi…
Hire one

Heh heh.Saw that. He was with us a few years back, right?
Yeh he was here with Harbaugh I think.
He’s been with the NE Pats in a Scouting capacity so maybe they’re using him to plug some of those departures as well?
And Mckivitz took a 1yr deal too
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/colton-mckivitz-signs-one-year-extension-with-49ers
Looks like most teams are cutting some pretty good players. So far we’ve stayed away from that We need to grab one of those many safeties available since we probably lose Huff for the year. I would like to see DJ Jones back in the pack. Since our record of drafting first and second round picks isn’t very good I hope we stay pat and pick 11 players. We are getting old we will need to restock in the next couple of years. Wouldn’t mind getting one of those Seattle linebackers that were just cut loose also since we probably lose Greenlaw for the year.
My very first concert was at Winterland SF 1971 is was 15 ( yeah I’m a geezer at 67 now )the bands were Cold Blood Lydia Pence,Hot Tuna with Poppa John Creech, and Beautiful Day singing White Bird! Epic concert with an amazing special effects for the time! Got me so into concerts later in the summer I saw Led Zeppelin & the Tubes at Kezar another classic show… oh the good old days!
yeah it was a different world then. You could still get tickets for $5.
Wow. Great shows! Only show I saw at Kezar was pretty epic. The Dead returning from a break in touring (Jerry and friends). The friends being Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Tower of Power, Marlon BRando, John Brodie. Crazy day.
My brother dragged me and a buddy as I was a newly minted 14 year old stoner. Saw Robin Trower later that year at Winterland. Also saw the Tubes on Dec 28th 1978 3 days before the Dead closed it. Still don’t know why I didn’t go to that show.
Gotta say, except for snippets here, I haven’t read or listen to anything about the super bowl or the 9ers since that loss. My expectations for the Giants are much lower, so I’m looking forward to the baseball season and hopefully it’ll entertain and heal some wounds. Go Giants.
This team should be better than last year. Anything over .500 is probably going to be a win.
Anything over .500 is likely a playoff spot.
Yeah, with Deebo and Greenlaw getting hurt knocked some wind out of our sails. I have a feeling we will come back with a vengeance and Purdy should continue to get better. That was a heartbreaking loss but it was still a total fun year.
Paul, the whole opt-out thing is a pisser but when these so-called top-tier guys don’t get their 7 year/$5 bazillion contracts, they (the agents) force the teams to go this route.

49ers sure do an amazing job with comp picks acquiring 5 this year the most in football while only losing 4 players with a team fairly stacked there’s a lot of ways they can manage this draft going up are down( hopefully up in a bundle of comp picks) ..And really props forever with the cap master Parang Marthe sp? for the tremendous work in 23 years handling cap/contracts whatever he’s the best in football at his job!
And also Lynch& Shanahan along with Jed Clampett seem to be on the same page to keep this organization stable, which you have to have in the daily grind of football.
And can the Giants go get Opt Snell to team with Webb for this season and I could really get behind this team with the additions of Lee,Soler,Chappy!
I’d get Montgomery. Snell walks too many and doesn’t go deep enough.
Here you go AK 😀
Paraag holds an MBA as far as I’m aware and he does do a masterful job with Contract structure which a much needed ingredient in a Cap controlled NFL.

Avatar for ninersfootball, this is comment at NN this morning WOW
I would love the DE Hunter signing (it would send NYners to the moon), but I wonder if we can aim differently at solving the DLine problem with DT Chris Jones.
We can make the salary cap work in 2024 by cutting AA and not signing a top DE (like Chase Young or Hunter). Bosa, Hargrave, Jones, and Ferrell are an elite front-4, with Drake, Beal, Kalia, McGill, a draft 3 pick at DT, and another cheap veteran DE as the backups.
In 2025, we can move off the Hargrave contract and build a DLine around Jones and Bosa.
In 2026, same deal with a bunch of young guys and cheap veterans mixed in around 2 All-Pros. It would require using a 1st rounder between 25 and 26 drafts to add young talent to the DLine.
By 2027, when Purdy’s cap hits go astronomical, Chris Jones will be 33 and gone. At that stage, most of Williams, Deebo, CMC, Kittle, Greenlaw, Juice, Ward, etc will be off the roster.
Kittle Greenlaw CMC Ward and Deebo ARE the team. If they are all gone in 2027, we are in last place.
Well so much for getting anything for Davis, we just put him on waivers.
Maybe someone will claim him and then a trade will be arranged…?.. Kind of odd. The team needs to be careful with this, considering Chapman is likely here for only 1 year….
I think once on waivers he’s fair game for anyone. I just can’t believe they couldn’t get a kid from AA or A ball for him.
Yeah, I don’t know the exact rules, but I think I remember that if another team claims him, Giants can pull him back off waivers and then they can arrange a trade if the other team still wants him. Agree, Davis is really one of the only players who would seemingly have trade value, I’m guessing they’ll get something for him. Unless they’ve changed the waiver rules.
Paul&Winder I’m bummed how the Giants have handled the JD Davis situation a solid player but obviously not as solid as Chapman.Still u can never have enough power bats!
To my understanding if Davis goes unclaimed a real possibility since teams are unwilling to give up prospects are pickup his 7 mil contract, the Giants could potentially release him and only be on the hook for a prorated portion of his salary.Because Davis beat the Giants in an Arbitration hearing last month, his full salary is not guaranteed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement..
https://www.nfl.com/prospects/nick-zakelj/32005a41-4b41-5291-1379-49d89d7d5d61
Looks like a run on OT and IOL this draft class . If we don’t trade up then here is Zakelj ‘s combine to compare against 2nd and 3rd rd potential picks..
From a small school he may have not prepared enough to get his data better.
Looked up some combine on Spencer Burford. 6’4″ 300 34 3/4 arm and 5.19 40 dash.
Right oline the foremost liability and needs to keep Purdy healthy. First two picks need to be RT then RG. Use FA this week for OC if needed.
https://tankathon.com/nfl/players/jordan-morgan
Also Kingsley Sumataia has similar combine. Per mocks looks like top 6 OT are gone by 20 picks and a trade up would use 2025 1st. So next two are Jordan Morgan and Kingsley Sumataia
Both seem to be better than McKivitz but can they be future LT? Do we want to trade up in 2nd for best RG.
https://nflcombineresults.com/playerpage.php?f=Colton&l=McKivitz&i=30202
6’6″ 306 33.75 arm 5.35 40 drafted 2020 3rd rd
So our RT and RG seem light but slow and not good f[r outside zone runs.
Yeah, AK, agree they seem to have handled Davis a bit awkwardly. In the early days of this offseason, I was in favor of picking up Chapman and moving Davis to primarily DH, with some time in the field. Once they got Soler, getting Chapman obviously meant they had to do something else with Davis. They had a lot of time to think about that. I’m actually surprised the Chapman signing didn’t include a nearly immediate trade of Davis, which would have reduced some of the “awkwardness”….
Probably should have traded Davis before they announced the Chapman deal. Teams waiting it out so they could just pay his salary and not give up a player in a trade.
Now I’m wondering if SF should open with Bart (no options) and send Bailey down (options) until they can work out a decent trade for Joey.
Before they went out and acquired a backup catcher (don’t remember his name), I even thought they could open with Bart along with Bailey, give Joey some playing time. Good catchers are not common, can never have enough good catchers. If Bailey went down with an injury, they’d be kinda stuck. But you’re right, Joey probably isn’t long for Giants world.
The backup catcher is Tom Murphy(32 years old but has power when healthy, how many times do we hear that)who played with Seattle last year.Giants signed him to a 2 year deal at 8 mil? So Bart like Davis is toast with this team
Wow I just heard the 49ers are releasing Arik Armstead that’s fucked up! Well I guess as usual for the umpteenth year in a row the 49ers will be drafting an DL instead of OL first again.
No, we’ll get an FA interior lineman. DJ Jones should come back.
As far as Bart and JD Davis go, I think the league is onto the fact that neither of those guys are anything more than middling to low-level talent at this point.
I mean really, Bart isn’t even all that good defensively. If he can’t hit .250, 25, 75 RBI, then he’s not on anyone’s radar. Davis is the same. He has moments where he’s good, but gives you 6 weeks of scuffling in between.
New thread is up.
