Super Bowl!!! The Quest for Six!!!

The prognosticators have prognosticated, the talking heads have talked, the nattering nabobs have nattered. All that is left is the 14 hour pre-game show, and the actual game. Strange that Vegas has us as the favorites (-2) when everyone under the sun, moon, and stars is picking KC.

I really thought the Green Bay game was gonna be the toughest of these playoffs once the Ravens went down. And I still feel the same. KC’s defense is aggressive and they pressure. But Brock Purdy has played very well under pressure this season. KC does not defend the run very well, and their linebackers are not good in coverage. The 49ers can exploit that all evening. Plays over the middle are our bread-and-butter, so I think Kittle has a big night.

KC’s O line is a bit leaky, so the hope is the D line can get pressure right off the bat. But my biggest issue is Steve Wilks and his passive defensive game plan. Most games see the LBs 6-8 yards deep and the corners playing back. The 49ers CANNOT let KC get the jump early and put the Niners in the hole. It may very well happen, but if it is because we are playing soft, it’ll piss me off no end.

Special teams? Eeeep. Just tell Moody to kick everything out of the end zone. Our K/P coverage is a crapshoot. Let’s not leave it up to them.

31-20 Niners. # SIX!!!!!

💯 Absolutely we run. Have to repost this positional comparison from NN yesterday.

    https://www.ninersnation.com/2024/2/10/24067044/nick-bosa-patrick-mahomes-brock-purdy-isaiah-pacheco-49ers-chiefs

Omenihu and their starting NT are out. Run all day and play action pass and more off that to get an early lead and keep it.

  2. bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Somewhere I read on 1st down, instead of a 5 man front shift Armstead to DE and chase young to sideline to slowdown pacheco.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That ain’t a bad idea, Tom. Wilks did do some shifting of Bosa earlier this season, lineing him up over the middle and such. Time to shake things up.

  3. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

The books are going to get killed on SB future bets on the Niners if they win. That’s why the line is the way it is, they want people to bet KC. That way if Niners win they have a little coverage.
I feel strangely confident in this game. I think CMC rushes way over 100 yards and has a couple of tds. I’m feelin’ a Greenlaw pick or 2.
    SF 31 KC 20

  4. alleykat69's avatar alleykat69 says:

Fuck the Chiefs I say we owe them big time after last SB meltdown with a 20-10 lead going into the 4th quarter only to see KC score the last 21 points!!!
My biggest concerns are 2, can Shanahan ever close out in the biggest game? He screwed up a 28-3 lead as OC for Falcons, then the Chiefs 2 years ago! Also #2 can Wilks out coach Spags? in a battle of defensive coordinators as Spags a longtime Chief has the better pedigree and the SB rings to prove it.. Still I’m always going 49ers in a shootout 37-27!! “Vengeance in Vegas” Let’s Roll it’s game day!!! ❤️💛🏈💪Quest for#6

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

These last 2 games, and the presence of CMC, give me hope that Shanny can finish a game. Like I said, 31-30 Niners.

  6. barleyfreak's avatar barleyfreak says:

I really don’t get the Purdy hate out there. Seems like he’s someone people would rally behind and pull for. Whatevs.

This is our best QB since Garcia. This is our best offense since the last SB win. Everyone, but everyone, is picking KC. We’ve got em just where we want em.

We’re healthy, hungry, and due for a complete game.

  7. Winder's avatar Winder says:

To me the difference in this game will be Purdy. He’s the one that has bailed out Shanny’s play calling the last two games and just hope he’s ready to do it again. Go Niners.

  8. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

Harbaugh added Navarro Bowman to his coaching staff.
    LB coach

    • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

Greg Roman DC on board also. I thought Harbaugh and Roman are run heavy types. Is there a mesh with those two and their QB Herbert.

  9. Winder's avatar Winder says:

With all the commercialism surrounding this game it sorta leaves me numb. Two weeks of this crap is one week too long.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Yeah, this one seems way over the top even for Super Bowls for commercialism and media nuttery. Seems every commentator looking for clickbait is bashing Purdy like he stole their bourbon bottle and their dog — absolutely ridiculous.

  10. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    GO NINERS!

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Well, the Taylor Swift aspect adds a ton of extra hype. i haven’t really been paying too much attention, but it sure seems like the unwashed masses are giving this to mahomes.

THey are in for a rude awakening. I think we beat them fairly easily.

    • bakkentom's avatar bakkentom says:

I do too. Joe Buck says he is staying away from Vegas. This is FYI from that article.

Karon Ransom, the Secret Service agent in charge in Las Vegas, said about 750 federal law enforcement agents are on the job to protect the event.

The risk of a terrorist attack is always present, noted one expert, according to USA Today.

“There are so many different parties that want to inflict harm to America. What better way to generate publicity than one of the biggest games in the United States?” Gil Fried, a professor at the University of West Florida and a specialist in sports facility management, said.

  12. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Niners have dominated so far, up only by 3.
Now Greenlaw is out with an Achilles. Scary…

  13. willedav's avatar willedav says:

First possession will be big. Can Niners keep them off scoreboard and add to lead? Mahomes moved the ball last time he had it.

  14. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The D came to play, Purdy is doing good. They should have scored at least a FG after the pick. And Kyle looked pissed on the side line

  15. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Chiefs D has tightened it up.

  16. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Why is Shanny not running CMC more in second half? WTF?

  17. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

And now Deebo is out. Unbelievable. They’re going to be hard pressed to win with Greenlaw and Deebo out of the game. Absolutely nothing on offense for two quarters.

  18. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    Hopefully just cramps for Deebo.

  19. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Now Deebo out? WTF is going on here?

  20. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Tony Romo is an insufferable ass. He never shuts up.

  21. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Shanahan is doing the same thing he did in 2019. Purdy isn’t doing shit in this game.

  22. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

And there it is. Shades of Kyle Williams.

  23. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I was just thinking just don’t make a turnover. And, there it is.
Frickin’ special teams weakness again by the Niners…

  24. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

No panic, give CMC the rock. I don’t get these play calls…

  25. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

But Shanahan is panicking. He’s throwing on every down.

  26. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Wow, Shanny going for it on 4th, and made it.
Is that balls or not trusting Moody for a chip shot?
Now, Jennings with the TD ! Wow…

  27. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    Fucking Moody.

  28. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

    Damn blocked it!

  29. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Niners need to force a turnover…

  30. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

I’ve seen at least three holds on Bosa, including that last one when he was tackled.

  31. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Moody gets it done.
And, way too much time left for Maholmes. Need to force a turnover…

  32. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    This one is over.

  33. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Wilks with the soft D again.

  34. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Warner saved it, at least for now…

  35. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

The fumble on the kick off and the missed extra point.

  36. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I would have thought Shanny would defer, but I think he probably feels the Niner D is gassed, needs a blow…

  37. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Unbelievable, more false start in OT. Niners beating themselves…

  38. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Now Kittle hurt, WTF ?

  39. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    This game is killing me.
Get a turnover, need a turnover to end it…

  40. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

    Wilks needs to go away.

  41. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

I can’t believe Shanahan did it again.

  42. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Shanny blew it.
He won the toss, should have made KC take the ball first.
This really blows. You could feel this from the first half when they completely dominated and only scored 10.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

KC won the toss. I WANTED us to take the ball and score a TDF, but CMC fumbled. That wasn’t on Shanny. The not going for the TD in OT is on him.

      • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Niners won the OT toss, that’s what I’m talking about. Shanny took the ball. You can’t do that, you give the ball to KC to see how that pans out, then you know what you have to do. You can’t give Mahomes the ball if you only score 3 first…

  43. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

    Losing Greenlaw really hurt.
    Wilkes will be fired.
    Book it.
Niners window just likely closed for years.

  44. Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Shanahan is turning into the new Marv Levy.

  45. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Truly sad day.

  46. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Man, down that close in OT you really have to go for the win instead of the FG. Even if you fail you still have to stop them. Which we didn’t do anyway.

    Wilks has to go.

  47. Irish Kevin's avatar Irish Kevin says:

Well it came down to who made the most mistakes, the CMC fumble, the muffed return, the thing that really hurt the Niners was not getting at least a FG after the interception. And no body picking up the Chiefs DE can’t think of his name, had 2 tipped passes, and he was in Purdy’s face all game long, Why? It was still a good game, nobody picked such a low scoring game.

  48. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

No doubt about it, a devastating loss.
Shanny can’t win the big game, that’s around his neck now. He made a very questionable decision in OT to take the ball first.

  49. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

unforgiveable to be this poorly prepared for this.

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Cue Snark at 7:23. Niners D gassed from previous drive. you give Chiefs D, also probably gassed, more time to rest while Mahomes has ball.

  50. willedav's avatar willedav says:

Where do we go from here? This one obviously hurts at all levels.
Salary cap gives SF one more year before they have to pay Purdy, right?
Greenlaw Achilles injury, conservative estimate 9 months recovery means Thanksgiving return at earliest.
Coaching (major issue) aside, how to address roster fixes–O and D line, skill positions yada yada.
Last, shout out to Loo’s boys, who stumbled through regular season but got job done when it mattered. First SB repeat in how many years?

  51. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

I would like to have seen more ground and pound personally.
What was Shanny thinking with so many pass attempts?
    Mitchell barely warmed up.
    Kittle eliminated.
    Taking FGs was slow death.

Greenlaw going down was an invitation to open the middle of the field and Spagnola capitalized.
Gave Mahomes a freeway to run at will.

Should have emptied the RB stable and wore them out.
Shanny can’t win the big moments.
Not sure what to look forward to with him in the driver’s seat going forward.

    Big BIG blunder. 😕

  52. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49ER says:

    Jordan Mason MIA as well?
Punching the opponents in the mouth is apparently something Shanny hasn’t figured out yet.
Now he’s got important vacancies to fill and getting back to the show is never easy.

Jauan gadget play was a nice wrinkle but maybe played too soon?

Hindsight is always 20/20 but he didn’t have enough in the bag to find the end zone in the end.

Getting tired of the what coulda been with him.
Where do we go from here is the question.

  53. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wow. The OT shit is weird. I didn’t know the rules were different in the playoffs.
