Christmas Hangover

Too much stuffing? Too many mimosas? Too many passes?

Whatever it was, the 49ers fell flat on their faces Christmas day. A promising start led to a late pass picked off in the end zone, and the weirdness ensued. The back judge caused a safety on Lamar Jackson, we got a couple 3-and-outs, and what could have been a 14 point early lead was instead 5-0.

Despite the 3 first half picks (the 2nd one was unlucky, the third was stupid, but it did hit Kittle in the hands), the 49ers were still only down 4 at the half 16-12. Purdy got hit throwing short pass in the 3rd quarter and the rout was on.

For all intents and purposes the defense played as well as they could, given the turnover situation and Wishnowski turning into an Aussie Rules football player and getting a personal foul on a long punt return. We didn’t seem to have issues moving the ball, we just had too many bad tips and bounces. The defense did well for the most part keeping Balt out of the end zone until the picks stacked up like cordwood.

Field position and turnovers killed us, as did the plethora of penalties. Oh well. Still the #1 seed. Just win the last two and we are fine. It’s likely better to play with an edge rather than have everything sewn up early.

Like I said, it’s good to get this game out of the way, but hopefully this is it. Due to the vagaries of the NFL scheduling assholes, we get an early east coast game after a Monday night home game.

Assholes.

Tell ya one thing, this is the wrong time to be losing our O line and D line to injuries.

I do like the SJ Day signing. We need immediate help from someone in game shape.

    Suh apparently isn’t ready.

Hopefully those who left game from O line OK too. Saw they did put guy they cut back on roster.

Well, Purdy looked fine, even though he gets the blame for the INTs, tipped passes are his fault, the Niners were moving the ball. So shit luck on a big game, it happens. Move on and get the next 2. The bigger problem is Kyle’s record of 0-40 in games the team is trailing by 8 points or more. I don’t understand that. He has got to game plan for that, 4 games this year. So part of the loss has to be on him also

Yeah, that and the double-digit leads lost in the playoffs. I thought it was odd how we came out passing hard those first few drives. Once we started running, we scored our 1st touchdown.

The injury report for the game is pretty scary:

    Trent Williams – groin

    Jaylon Moore – concussion
    Aaron Banks – toe
    Ambry Thomas – hammy
    Ji’Ayir Brown – knee
    Brock Purdy – stinger

Purdy was cleared but they didn’t risk anything further. All the rest are day-to-day.

Brown is concerning as he’s the 2nd string guy and we’d likely have to dip into the practice squad for someone to replace him. Sucks that it’s a short week.

I’d think it would be Tayler Hawkins from SD State.

Hopefully Jennings is ok to play this week. He is our go to 3rd down guy and he was missed Monday.

Riverboat Ron is going (shocking!) with the more mobile Jacoby Brissett for the Commies this weekend. This won’t be the cakewalk Vegas is making it out to be but we should win.

Take the under and the points. We are beat up. And we desperately need that bye.

Williams, Thomas, Brown, and Hargrave were all limited participants in the Wednesday walk-through.

Deebo questionable with a neck injury.

Banks questionable with a turf toe injury.

    Jennings didn’t practice.

    Christ.

yeah, this hit us at the wrong time. These last two games are not givens. Wash has absolutely nothing to lose and the Rams have been playing really good ball and would love nothing more than to knock is out of the # 1 spot.

Like I said my main concern is the short week with a day of fucking travel back east for an early game.

Two Thursday games and this shit sucks. I guess all teams go through this crap, but at least we didn’t have to leave the country to play.
