Purdy to Start Throwing . . .

. . . for reals. He is winging his way to Jacksonville (gulp) with his QB coach Will Hewlett and his ortho guy. He is on schedule for week 1 of the regular season.

I guess this is great news. But, as I’ve said a few times before, I’d love to see Lance take at least the first 2 games. This way we can see:

a) What Lance has to offer
b) How the offensive line is doing
c) Give Purdy more time to heal up and get ready for the long haul that is the regular season (and playoffs)

Truth be told, I can’t remember the last time a quarterback lasted a whole season for the 49ers. I guess it was 2019, but it feels like 20 years ago. The name of the game of course is attrition. Stay relatively healthy and the 49ers should be fine.

Given the QB situation, we still should be the favorites for the 1st round bye. Last year, even with the shit start, upheaval at quarterback, and all the injuries, the 49ers were one game from being the #1 seed. Any kind of stability and we should be the front-runners.

Anyhow, here’s an article on Purdy and his throwing regimen.

If the hype for Lance can be generated by random shit, so can Purdy’s . . .

Brock Purdy on his work with Dr. Tom Gormely:

“His emphasis on hip-shoulder separation as well as the unique pre/post throwing routines, have added multiple layers to my game. Multiple NFL coaches told me that they noticed more velocity and efficiency in my throws from my senior year film to what they saw at the NFL Combine.”

That is good news. Yeah, it’s pretty much a given that we are gonna need all 3 qb’s during the year. Just hope that no injury is real serious not just for the QB’s but the whole team. From what i have been reading is as a whole we play so fucking hard that every team we played last year whether we won or lost ended up losing the week after. Teams we played last year a week later 0-15. I know we played 17 games so I guess there were 2 teams that had their byes the week after. I should have saved that article. It was sent by the Athletic I will go back and see if I can copy part of it.

It’s an article about our new DB Isaiah Oliver. This is most of the article.

Every team that faced the 49ers last season and played again the following week lost that next game, going 0-15. Such a phenomenon had never happened before in NFL history.

    Sheer coincidence?

“No,” new 49ers nickelback Isaiah Oliver said emphatically last month.

Consider Oliver to be particularly informed on the matter. He has an inside look at how the 49ers operate, having been with them for about three months now. And because he played for the Falcons last season, Oliver knows what it’s like to face the 49ers.Atlanta actually beat them, 28-14, in October. Oliver even notched an interception in that game, which saw the 49ers missing several star players because of injury. But the Falcons still seemed to pay the price the very next week. They lost, 35-17, to Cincinnati in a game in which the Bengals outgained them by 303 yards.

“If you look back at that game (against the 49ers), yeah, we played well and we won, but the next week we were banged up bad — and we went out there and lost a big one,” Oliver said. “So that’s just how it goes the week after playing the 49ers. You know how it’s going to be for four quarters. Can you do that for four quarters and then can you come back and do it the next week? That’s hard to do.”

Oliver signed a two-year contract worth up to $6.8 million with the 49ers in free agency. He cites the 49ers’ reputation as perhaps the most bruising team in football as a key selling point behind his decision.

“Everyone knows that when the 49ers are coming in, it’s going to be a physical game,” Oliver said. “That’s just the tone that’s already set before a game even starts. That was the mindset the whole week. We knew that if we were going to win that game, we were going to have to be more physical than them — and that’s just the respect that comes with the 49ers’ logo on that helmet, just because of the way that we play football.”

That’s a crazy weird stat. The NFL is all about attrition these days. We’ve had a couple season wiped out, or at least highly affected, early due to injuries.

I’m still surprised we didn’t do more regarding our O line. There’s still time, but we went through every QB on the roster and then some last season and our response was to let McGlinchey walk and not much else. Matt Pryor? Come on, man.

Pretty sure the reason we have so many injuries is because we play so hard. I guess we just have to hope for the best. I really like this team and the way we play.

      • Winder's avatar Winder says:

When I was a kid I always thought the 49ers were real similar the the Chicago Bears. We never won very much but nobody really wanted to play us either. We have always played hardnosed football even during the Montana years when most media said we played a finesse type of game. They were full of shit then just like now.

Heh heh heh!! Yep. Even in the early-mid 70s as the team was cratering from the demise of the Morabitos and the jettisoning of talent, they still brought the pain with Hardman, Hart, Vanderbundt, and Krueger.

Or DBs got exponentially worse and we couldn’t stop a tricycle by the end of the 70s.

How could you leave Dave Wilcox off of that list!

I’m old. My favorite LB back in the day. Flew under the radar.
