PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, it’s an early end to a season that started with such promise. Jimmy Garoppolo jammed his leg into the ground, more than likely tearing his ACL trying to cut and gain an extra yard or two down close to the goal line yesterday. He was carted off the field after limping his way to the sidelines. Richard Sherman also joined him on the injury list with a calf injury that will be getting MRIed as well. Throw in the Jerick McKinnon injury to star tht preseason, and that’s a truckload of money sidelined.

But I digress. The game yesterday went like many other KC games, and seasons, to boot. Huge early success, fade badly, and in the end come up short. Unfortunately for San Francisco, they were the ones who came up short in the end. After a first half where every play was either a TD or a penalty against our defense, KC ran up a 35-10 lead, scoring TDs on all 5 possessions, the 49ers came roaring back, scoring 2 TDs, and seemingly scoring a 3rd on a nice pass from CJ BeatHard, but for the homiest of home-town calls, and being down 7 with 6+ minutes left. So we settle for a FG while Jimmy G gets carted away, and the hopes for the season go down the drain.

Yes, KC is a talented team, and yes, this one was pencilled in as a tough loss, but they way this one went was infuriating. Robert Selah has GOT to figure out how to defend a fucking screen pass! Time and again, on 3rd and long, we have given up short passes that go for 10-20 yards. Whatever is needed + 1. KC is a good team but they negated just about every player on our defense.

This falls squarely on Robert Selah. Yeah, the missed tackles are annoying as fuck and players need to make plays, but they need to be in the right POSITION to make plays. Reuben Foster, Malcolm Smith, DeForest Buckner, Arik Armstead, and Fred Warner were no-shows the whole game. The secondary was ripped new ones all day, but you can’t defend guys when Mahomes (or Stafford, or Cousins) can read 3-4 WRs on a given play and pick the most open guy.

I wonder if Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid are available. We need bodies!

you need work on your “pfftttt”. I’m no expert, talk to Blade, he’ll straighten you out. After thinking about it I’m not as down on the D as I was earlier. This was KC, a house of horrors for false starts, dumb penalties, etc. This is just what we do there. It’s always been that way, name one good game we ever played in KC. I can’t think of one…..
The bigger picture is that this just sucks balls. I’m tired of entire seasons being given up on like this. Every year we suck. This year we had promise. And now that’s all gone. AGAIN. I’m just tired of NFL bullshit. Everybody gets injured. And the guys who remain healthy get bullshit penalties called on them.

Play for a draft pick ! Super bowl probably wasn’t in the cards anyway ! Top ten maybe !? Pass rusher anyone !

I’m real sorry for Jimmy G. In the heat of battle and trying to scrap for extra yardage, he made a poor decision and an error in judgement. Instead of just running out of bounds after a nice gain, he cut up-field for more and that was the move that did in his knee. He’s not Russell Wilson and needs to realize that. He has to be on the field for the Niners to have a chance and now he won’t be for up to 15 months, depending on the severity of the injury (there’s been some word that he may have injured his MCL as well). Just get the hell out of bounds, dude. You’re not going to win games with your legs.

I’ve read that he was pretty bummed about the injury and I have sympathy for that because he was competing hard for the win and he’s a nice guy. I don’t wish that shit on anybody. I hope his surgery and recovery go well, but the fact of the matter is that a significant chunk of his peak competitive years will be lost and he still has yet to play, learn and develop for a full season. Not good. He’ll essentially be starting over when he does get back on the field.

CJ doesn’t inspire much confidence, but the hope is that he’s learned and developed since last year and will be able to get the job done and get this team some wins. The running game will become even more important and Breida is looking pretty damn good. The kid is explosive and has some serious cutting ability. Bit of a scare yesterday, but he looks to be okay.

You all know how I feel about Saleh these days, I think he’s overmatched and and poor at game-planning for the different offenses the team sees each week. The defensive prep has been flat out awful. Chuck already detailed those shortcomings, so I’ll leave it at that. Saleh’s challenge is find a way to get the D ready to play every week. So far, he’s a bust, imo.

It’s unbelievable how quickly a season can go to hell in a handbasket.

League officiating has become an embarrassment. The penalty on Juice for PI was a joke, as admitted by one of their own guys, and could have cost the Niners a legitimate chance to pull off a stunning comeback. One score down with more than 5 minutes left? I like our chances.

The fucking refs all lift weights now and seem to relish all the screen time they get, flexing their biceps and showing off their perfect coifs. Hyperbole perhaps, but I’m sick of this shit. The rules changes are way over the top. In an effort to protect players, the game is being severely compromised, and may, in fact, be causing injuries on their own. The Dolphins are reporting that DE William Hayes blew out his knee because he was trying to avoid landing on the Derek Carr during a sack. That’s unbelievable. Clay Matthews flagged for the third straight week for a routine sack/tackle. It’s all too much.

  5. unca_chuck says:

That’s today’s NFL. For both of your posts.

  6. unca_chuck says:

I’ve been saying for 3 years now that these game-altering penalties need to be reviewable. Otherwise, there’s no accountability at all. Yesterday is a prime example.

Mainly because I can count at least 6 of our games in these past 5 seasons that have turned on bad calls.

    • Lurker John says:

Absolutely agree with this. With reviews there’s always the concern that games will be drawn out, but you’d think they could work it similar to challenges, give each team a couple per game, something like that. And if you can count 6 of our games, you can bet there’s been plenty of others in other games as well.

  7. unca_chuck says:

I emphasized the PFFFT because the football seasons are so cut and dried. Lose your QB, lose your season. PFFFFFFFFFFFT!

And yeah KC is a house of horrors, but we have been blowing screen coverage all year. That is on Selah and the LB coach. Being out of position all the time is unacceptable. We could have forced FGs had we been able to simply cover a back coming out of the backfield. And the Det game would have been a bigger win, and the Minn game was lost by allowing too many yards up the middle by scrambles and screens.

  8. Irish Kevin says:

The salaries they are paying QB’s and the salary cap are the problem. Every owner knows if their QB goes down there season is over, so they have been trying and successfully getting rules that protect the QB no matter the cost to the game. Could you imagine the Niners trying to keep Montana and Young on the team in today’s world. Not happening. There is zero you can do about this situation,

  9. Irish Kevin says:

Then you have the QB like Jimmy, he comes in at the end of last season and wins the last 5 games of the season, second coming of Joe M. Fast forward the Niners are about to go 1-2, a losing record with the high salary QB. He starts thinking he needs to do more and pppfffttt, season over.

  10. Lurker John says:

Sherman out 2-3 weeks per ESPN.

  11. Winder says:

Defenses will sit on Breida now. Jimmy is a competitor and he was just trying to get as many yards as he could. Good football players do that. You don’t usually blow out a ACL.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, it was a fluke play, but a fairly unnecessary one. Whatever. I’m, sure he’s done that a thousand times without any problems. the thousandth and one was the problem.

CJ gets to take the helm and hopefully show some incremental improvement over last year. We may have to wait for the Cards for our next win.SD is yet again a hot mess and who knows what we will see there. The Chargers can score, but as usual they don’t defend very well Joey Bosa is still out so there’s hope?

  13. unca_chuck says:

The problem I have with that Garoppolo play is that is a guaranteed penalty if Mahomes was hit like that. The officiating was beyond horrible. If we got calls like that every game, we’d be undefeated this year.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Sorry, have to call out Skeebers (and Bullitt’s) asinine assertion that this downfall is somehow related to St Jim Harbaugh. Because you know, everything about the 49ers revolves around a guy who inherited a talented team and did well, but not well enough, and held the team hostage for his exorbitant demands.

St Jim walks on water and is tearing up the college coaching ranks (as he is getting ready to be jettisoned by Michigan) amid a less-than-stellar recruiting record as he seems to have lost touch in his quarterback whisperer ways.

I guess you can call it the curse of his guy, Colin Kaepernick.

Remember, St Jim of the Schottemheimer curse, is 1-6 against rivals Ohio State, Michigan State and Notre Dame. This got Brady Hoke ran out of town on a rail.

Next stop? Dallas. Jerry Jones HAS to be sick and tired of Jason Garrett and the inconsistent play of the Cowboys. What better stop for St. Jim? Jerry will blow all the smoke up Jim’s ass that St. Jim can handle. A match made in hell. Or Waco.

  15. Irish Kevin says:

Kyle will meet the press today at 4:00 PM

  16. Winder says:

Yeah, the officiating was terrible. The league has been fucking with us for years.

  17. Winder says:

Besides the ACL it is believed that Jimmy has some MCL problems also. Seriously bad news

  18. Lurker John says:

Per the MRI, just the torn ACL for JG. Get well soon, dude. Depending on who you ask, 9 months recovery? Seems optimistic, but what else do we have at this point but optimism:

    http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/24784603/mri-confirms-torn-acl-jimmy-garoppolo-san-francisco-49ers

  19. Lurker John says:

MNF just showed a brief clip of the 1978 game between the Niners and Steelers with Scott Bull at QB, who had 1 TD and 11 Ints that year. Holy smokes. It could be worse.

  20. Lurker John says:

  21. Lurker John says:

I guess if rehab goes well for both of these guys, we can expect them back in time for the start of next season. That’s something to hang your hat on. Maybe we’ll even have an edge rusher by then.

  22. unca_chuck says:

No shit. And a wideout or 2. WTF happened to Pettis yesterday? Was he even out there? I only saw him on the one punt by KC.

And the Fitzpatreick express is officially iover. 3 picks in the 1st half.

  23. Lurker John says:

Yeah, except for the one decent punt return he was non-existent. I don’t even remember him being targeted.

  24. Lurker John says:

Fitz is fun to watch and he got them down for the FG there at the end of the half. Maybe he’ll bring them back in the second. It’s hard not to pull for the guy, the perpetual underdog.

  25. unca_chuck says:

I doubt it but we’ll see. TBs D is not holding up well what with all these turnovers.

  26. rtfirefly says:

Even if he doesn’t pull it off, it’s quite the comeback. 30-10 to 30-27, all in the 4th. Still 5:30 to go too.

  27. unca_chuck says:

    Fitzmajic is back!

  28. unca_chuck says:

Did you notice the PI they didn’t call in the end zone? We got called on the same kind of play.

  29. unca_chuck says:

    Lucky Ben didn’t fumble there.

  30. unca_chuck says:

Hah! This is getting good. Pittsburgh is unravelling. All that bullshit didn’t really cost them shit, but still its fun to see big ben screaming at his team.

    This is a real flag-fest

  31. unca_chuck says:

ANd fitz almost throws 2 picks.

  32. rtfirefly says:

I still don’t think Winston’s getting his old job back anytime soon, even with the L.

  33. NJ49er says:

    Officiating. The Leagues’ Control mechanism.
All in the name of safety of course. 😀

  34. NJ49er says:

Hard to sit thru an entire game with all the laundry being tossed and plays being reviewed.
Turning this game into advertising bonanza. Painful.

  35. unca_chuck says:

I thought the Niner game was bad. The Monday night game was unwatchable. The first 25 plays must have had a penalty.

  36. Winder says:

We are back to just hoping we can compete in every game. Like last year it was fun to watch the younger players progress it will pretty much be the same thing now. We will definitely get to see what this team is made of.

  37. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I would really like to see Pettis in there. Garcon has done little to nothing. He seemed to be doing OK before he got hurt last year, but last year was a huge transition year.
