(itsonlypreseasonbut) It’s GAME DAY ! ! !

Well, here we go with the 2018 football season. The Giants are staggering around .500 and don’t seem capable of passing up the myriad teams in front of them for the division, let alone with wildcard.  So football is coming just at the right time. Everyone knows the issues (O line, D line), the struggles (defensive backfield), the position fights (defensive backfield, WR, backup RB), and the tough schedule out of the gate.

So, let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!

Here’s a little trip down memory lane . . .

I like Bourne and think he has a chance to be a good player. He made some plays last year. Jullian Taylor was the best defensive player of the half and it wasn’t that close. He looks like a handful to block and plays with a lot of energy. He could be a steal. I’m not sure George Kittle is ever going to stay healthy. He’s talented but seems unable to even fall down without getting hurt.

Pettis an early standout. Should been a TD but he beat the DB like a rented mule.

Looking through the link Chuck posted, I see that Dicky Moegle played for the Niners for a few years. I wonder if any of you remember the famous play he was involved in while at Rice. I read about it when I was a little kid, in one of those strange but true football books. I thought his name looked familiar. There’s pics of it on the Web:

“In the 1954 Cotton Bowl Classic against Alabama, Moegle was involved in one of college football’s most famous plays. With Rice leading 7–6, Moegle broke through on a sweep from Rice’s five-yard line, and was running down the sideline in front of Alabama’s bench on his way to a touchdown. Alabama’s Tommy Lewis, without putting on his helmet, jumped off the bench and tackled Moegle. Seeing what happened, referee Cliff Shaw awarded a 95-yard touchdown on the play, and Rice went on to win the game 28–6.[2] Moegle finished with 265 rushing yards, which was a Cotton Bowl Classic record until the 2008 game when Missouri’s Tony Temple rushed for 281 yards.[2] He finished with game records of 265 yards on 11 carries for an average of 24.1 yards per attempt and 3 touchdowns.[3] Moegle and Lewis later appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show to talk about the play.”

The Niners have had some great football players throughout their history. Some of the old timers are classics. What a colorful history.

Liked that 2 pt conversion. I guess it’s good to practice these situations since there’s so little practice time in training camp..

Yeah the Niners were a hard-luck franchise for a long time. From the Browns always beating them in their early history to their collapse in 1957, and their suckage for the next 13 years and subsequent Dallas losses, they had a lot of good teams that always fell short, and a lot of bad teams that flailed. Took them a long time to finally get over the hump. From the Morabitos to the Eddie D era, the team has always been about family, My one and only true football team.

    Hey, they won . . .
