Well, here we go with the 2018 football season. The Giants are staggering around .500 and don’t seem capable of passing up the myriad teams in front of them for the division, let alone with wildcard. So football is coming just at the right time. Everyone knows the issues (O line, D line), the struggles (defensive backfield), the position fights (defensive backfield, WR, backup RB), and the tough schedule out of the gate.
So, let’s get ready to RUMBLE!!!
Here’s a little trip down memory lane . . .

chuck- thanks for that link. I never realized just how many good players we lost In 1977. I just know we really sucked in 78.
Here’s the players sitting for tonight
Arik Armstead (hamstring)
Jonathan Cooper (knee)
Brock Coyle (hip)
J.P. Flynn (knee)
Joshua Garnett (knee)
Marcell Harris (Achilles; not cleared for game action)
Richard Sherman (hamstring)
Trent Taylor (back; not cleared for game action)
Fred Warner (chest)
Cole Wick (knee)
K’Waun Williams (ankle)
Warner is a surprise.
There you go.. DFB!
Ward missed this play
71 for Dallas was clearly off sides of the TD pass. Ward still got burned badly
Some rust on Jimmy G
Wow, one play and Kittle is out. That didn’t look good.
No pass rush again. Jimmy Ward is not a CB, he’s a safety. He really boned that play.
Thomas looks like he’s toast. That did not look good..
Niners dropping like flies already.
The Cowgirls are flying around.
One mediocre series for Jimmy G.
Jimmy G missed his only deep ball and got his TE hurt to boot.
So much for this game. Run blocking was an F. Line play was mediocre. Pass coverage bad ST got a sack, then got hurt. Now Breida’s hurt.
The one thing I hope the Niners haven’t done is read their press clippings. All the hype around their end of season run is just that, hype. They look slow out there right now. They’ve accomplished nothing. This is a clean slate and everyone in the league is hungry to win. They’d better be ready to go every single week.
Preseason is all about not getting hurt. We are failing.
I don;t think Lynch and Shanahan would let that happen.
I agree, and they talk about it, but it’s ultimately up to the players. Nice play by Rueben.
Shit, watch Looney and Martin turn all pro.
They are backups.. Foster looked good there,
That was supposed to be a joke.
I thought the same thing. For a couple seconds,
Not a lot of flags.. I hope this is a trend.
Flag they should have thrown was on the TD plsy
Yeah, the RT pulled back early.
Man, they not even messing with the sidelines, just taking these guys right off the field.
I think all, except for kittle were head injuries.
Nice jiob by Robinson. Underthrown a bit.
And that drive fizzles out in the red zone..
Should be a hold
CJ can’t throw that ball and not expect it to get tipped or picked.
Yeah I hate short QB’s,so glad we have a tall one..
Getting schooled pretty good here.
Reed making plays. As is J Taylor.
I can only imagine the giddiness at Skeebs site..
Bourne sells the PI. Nice.
better late than ahhhhh nevermind,
I like Bourne and think he has a chance to be a good player. He made some plays last year. Jullian Taylor was the best defensive player of the half and it wasn’t that close. He looks like a handful to block and plays with a lot of energy. He could be a steal. I’m not sure George Kittle is ever going to stay healthy. He’s talented but seems unable to even fall down without getting hurt.
Kittles&Bits
Only bits of him on the field.,
Pettis an early standout. Should been a TD but he beat the DB like a rented mule.
CJ telegraphed that one, Mostert was open.
Still no pass rush.
That’s going to be a big problem.
If nothing, Boldin is playing well.
Looking through the link Chuck posted, I see that Dicky Moegle played for the Niners for a few years. I wonder if any of you remember the famous play he was involved in while at Rice. I read about it when I was a little kid, in one of those strange but true football books. I thought his name looked familiar. There’s pics of it on the Web:
“In the 1954 Cotton Bowl Classic against Alabama, Moegle was involved in one of college football’s most famous plays. With Rice leading 7–6, Moegle broke through on a sweep from Rice’s five-yard line, and was running down the sideline in front of Alabama’s bench on his way to a touchdown. Alabama’s Tommy Lewis, without putting on his helmet, jumped off the bench and tackled Moegle. Seeing what happened, referee Cliff Shaw awarded a 95-yard touchdown on the play, and Rice went on to win the game 28–6.[2] Moegle finished with 265 rushing yards, which was a Cotton Bowl Classic record until the 2008 game when Missouri’s Tony Temple rushed for 281 yards.[2] He finished with game records of 265 yards on 11 carries for an average of 24.1 yards per attempt and 3 touchdowns.[3] Moegle and Lewis later appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show to talk about the play.”
The Niners have had some great football players throughout their history. Some of the old timers are classics. What a colorful history.
Liked that 2 pt conversion. I guess it’s good to practice these situations since there’s so little practice time in training camp..
Yeah the Niners were a hard-luck franchise for a long time. From the Browns always beating them in their early history to their collapse in 1957, and their suckage for the next 13 years and subsequent Dallas losses, they had a lot of good teams that always fell short, and a lot of bad teams that flailed. Took them a long time to finally get over the hump. From the Morabitos to the Eddie D era, the team has always been about family, My one and only true football team.
Hey, they won . . .
No shit. I turned it off an hour ago.
Richie James had a nice first game.
New thread is up.
