Round 3, Pick 6 (No. 70 overall): Fred Warner, OLB, BYU
Round 3, Pick 31 (No. 95 overall): Tarvarius Moore, S, Southern Mississippi
Round 4, Pick 28 (No. 128 overall): Kentavius Street, DE, North Carolina State
Round 5, Pick 5 (No. 142 overall): D.J. Reed, DB, Kansas State
Round 6, Pick 10 (No. 184 overall): Marcell Harris, DB, Florida
Round 7, Pick 5 (No. 223 overall): Jullian Taylor, DT, Temple
Round 7, Pick 22 (No. 240 overall): Richie James, WR, Middle Tennessee State
Well, kind of a mixed bag of nuts in this the 2nd iteration of the Lynch/Shanahan draft. We started the draft with 9 picks, and we ended with 9 picks, but there were a few machinations around these picks.
I’m down with the first 4. All these guys bring superior speed to their respective positions.
We traded Trent Brown after getting our future tackle in Mike McGlinchey, a much better match for our outside running game and zone blocking scheme (and new speed back Jerick Mckinnon).
We traded up to get Dante Pettis, son of Gary Pettis, outfielder for the California Angels among other teams. A versatile and fast WR that can play the slot, out wide, and is a great return guy to boot.
Fred Warner is a hard-hitting, fast edge linebacker who either complements Reuben Foster or replaces him for a little while.
Tarvarious Moors is a lanky safety who is very fast and who more than likely will be a slot CB in the mold of Jimmie Ward.
The most intriguing (and risky) pick is Kentavius Street. A high 2nd round projection pick until he tore his knee up in his pro day or some shit. He’s on the shelf this year, but for a DE that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. His numbers are an eye-popping 4.87 40 yard time at 280 lb, he squatted 700 lb, He needs the seasoning of an NFL camp, adn he should be able to ad strength to his quickness. Yeah, it’s in the ilk of a Trent Baalke special, but hey, as a late 4th rounder, we’ll see.
The rest round out to be special teamers and backups, but as we saw last year, some of our later picks turned into gems. Reed is a scrappy undersized corner who went to my wife’s community college, Cerritos College.
Marcell Harris is a strong safety type who is also coming off an injury, an achilles tear. Another risk/reward scenario with Harris. He was cleared to practice prior to the combine, so he looks to be healed up from his injury.
Julian Taylor DT, is another quick big man who ran a sub-5 second 40 at 294 lb. He is also coming off injury but ran this time after healing up, so he adds depth and quickness to the D line.
Ritchie James is (yet another) injury guy who is (yet another) slot WR. He had close to 3,000 yards his first 2 college seasons till injuries slowed him down last year. We seem to have a lot of slot guys now as he is of the 5’20, 183 lb size that Trent Taylor is.
A solid B (maybe B- with all the hope picks at the back end) when you look at this draft, but when you throw in the addition of Jimmy Garoppolo, center Weston Richberg, RB Jerick McKinnon, and CB Richard Sherman, the team looks a lot different (and better) than last year, I give them an A.
Bring it on!
Forty Niners Forever 
Anyone follow the Sharks? I’m not a fan and I don’t know any of the players. Yet it’s the playoffs and I know in hockey that’s important. Do any of you football guys feel the same? TV doesn’t do that game justice. So mostly I ignore the whole thing.
I follow the NHL. The Sharks lost a tough OT game last night and they’re in a battle royale with Vegas. Playoff hockey rocks.
I used to go watch the seals when they were in town. Live hockey is great, not a lot of scoring but plenty of action.
I do follow the Warriors, though. Team down 7, can’t buy a bucket… Off the bench, Boom! 3! Couple of turnovers showing he’s still rusty, but also a 35 footer. Fast break shows up. They look like a whole new team, one that can get by a great Rockets team next round. Up 3 at half.

Stud athlete. Looking forward to seeing what this guy can do. His speed alone make me drool.
Even if we just send Pettis on fly routes, I’m down with that. A different look is a good thing. Even as a decoy. I think Pettis can come in and contribute fairly quickly.

They can do crazy stuff: Goodwin, Pettis, Taylor, McKinnon attacking defenses from all angles with small, quick guys with breakaway speed.
On Rich Eisen today, Lynch mentioned Taylor, McKinnon, and Juice as far as receivers. I think Kyle’s already inventing things in his sleep.
Pettis is a playmaker with a good football IQ. I’m betting KS and Jimmy G can find ways to get him the ball in space.
That’s the big takeaway from this draft. Team speed. Warner is a very fast LB.
I got him at the Combine with a 4.67/40 Chuck – Not what I’d consider fast given he’s only 230LBs.
I did have him on my Wish List due to stats – 49 games and 264 TKLs ain’t too shabby.
Sometimes a 40 is deceiving, if play speed and instincts are above average, which is where he’s likely ahead of the curve.
As long as Saleh finds him capable of doing what’s needed, I’m good with it.
Make that a 4.64/230+ LBs ….fat fingered that one –

Football is an entertainment business. Choosing to protest during the National Anthem, when 99% of the fans are standing cap in hand, raises the player profile and that’s not a good thing when seeking employment.
These things were easy to predict.

In free agency we added Sherman and upgraded with Richburg and Mckinnon ! Not a bad offseason !
IMO if you add in all the returning players who went on IR last year we’re even a better team than the one that went 6-1 over the last seven games last season !!!
Rob- You don’t like Tavarius Moore? I think he will be one of the better ones when everything is said and done.I also like the Harris pick because he is supposed to be a bruiser. The kid from Temple just might make it also.
On KNBR they were comparing Tarvarious Moors to Merton Hanks in build and speed
Moore is a taller faster version of Jimmie Ward. I think he’ll be on the field pretty quickly. I like the pick.
I am warming up to this draft. At first i thought it was underwhelming. Mostly because of all the injury players but I can see what they are doing in the high risk/ high reward as far as the players go. There really isn’t a whole lot of spots open since we get so many back from the IR that they are just hoping someone out of those will step up.
Yeah it’s a time to be optimistic about the draftees. Shanahan and Lynch have a good team to acquire players and in contrast to the “other” blog we should be hopeful for the coming season.
NJ, 40 times are bullshit for linebackers. How do you quantify reaction time? Coverage ability? Trailing and cleaning up plays?
