A topic on the last thread was the amount of turnover in a very short period from the Trent Baalke/Chip Kelly regime to the current one. Amazingly, from the day Baalke was canned, there are only 11 players remaining on the roster. That’s a hell of a lot of turnover in 14 months and change. To go along with that, even the players we have gotten so far in free agency, Richberg, McKinnon, and the in-house guys Garoppolo, Marsh, Coyle, and Gilliam, are all on the short side of 30. Only Kilgore and Sherman (soon to be 30) are 30+.
And, we have 9 picks in the draft to look forward to. What I really dig about this is the team is now very young. McKinnon is a speedster, as are Williams and Brieda. We could be faster at wideout, but I’m sure we address this in the remaining free agency period as this rolls along. All the injuries to the DBs last year got us the ability to see the young corners and safeties in action. Ahkello Witherspoon emerged as a solid CB and he will only get better. K’Waun Williams and Greg Mabin did solid jobs as well when guys were breaking their arms. At safety, Adrian Colbert shone as a hard-hitting free safety.
With Tartt, Sherman, the emergent Witherspoon, and Jimmie Ward we have a great group of defensive backs in the stable now. With young, proven backups.
Now about that pass rush . . .
Forty Niners Forever 
The more I look at our free agency so far, we are likely to go DL yet again. Or OLB. Then WR.
Last year we waited for awhile before we picked up our FA’s. I think that is where you find some good economical players. Sign em up and see how they play.
Chuck- I think the draft is just like it was in many ways, we will have to see where the QB’s fall and unless we have a shot at Nelson I think we probably move back. We can get some good LB’s and WR’s.
And, it’s also a real good RB draft this year. It wouldn’t surprise if we took of those either, Depending on the rest of FA we just might have a chance to take the BPA’s through most of the draft.
Don’t really need a high priced RB, teams are going with rotating running backs. Last time a RB won MVP was 10 years ago. Just say no to drafting a RB in the 1st round

I keep forgetting that we have McCaffrey as a WR. He’s 6’2″ 200 pounds. If he’s anything like his day then he’s a keeper.

49ers signed DE Jerry Attaochu, formerly of the Chargers, to a one-year contract.
A promising pass-rush prospect coming out of Georgia Tech in 2014, Attaochu’s early NFL career was derailed by injuries. He flashed outside-edge explosiveness when healthy and was the 50th overall pick in the draft. Attaochu is a smart investment by the Niners on this one-year, prove-it deal.
Loved McCaffery when he was here. Tough and reliable.
I wondered why we signed Kilgore. He had a weird year last year, but I attributed it to the shitty guard play next to him. Out with the Baalke boys. I think they are going to make a play for Nelson and put Richie Richberg at center.
I liked Attouchu in SD. I wonder when Armstead gets the axe. He’ll be the next Baalke boy to hit the bricks.

Kilgore signing was insurance if nothing else.
Once Richburg was done, Kilgore was expendable. Richburg is now our Center.
Between potentially having a shot at Quenton and/or Hernandez, Shanny has to be doing a happy dance.

Kilgore was going to get a shot at G but requested the trade and it was granted . G now open for an upgrade. Funny thought but Pouncey was a G in college . Wonder if the 4 time pro-bowler might be open to a move to G. ?

this guy sounds pretty good .
STRENGTHS Good burst off the snap. Heats up the edge and runs the arc. Quick inside move. Disruptive ability. Motor runs hot — keeps coming after the quarterback and chases hard from the back side. Moves well laterally and can zone drop. Has experience in even and odd fronts, having played defensive end and stand-up linebacker. Power-leverage potential. Mature and intelligent. Cares about the game and prepares like a pro. Arrow pointing up (will be a 21-year-old rookie). Ran extremely well and registered a 37 1/2-inch vertical jump at his pro day.
WEAKNESSES Needs to get stronger (opted not to bench at pro-day workout). Gets knocked around at the point of attack. Controlled by larger blockers when they get their hands on him. Still developing pop and violence in his hands. Still learning to incorporate power into his rush (more effortful than powerful). Needs to cultivate his pass-rush arsenal. Marginal 20-yard shuttle time (4.68 seconds), indicating tight hips.
DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 2-3
BOTTOM LINE Attaochu is a young, heady, disruptive, relentless edge rusher who profiles as a 3-4 right outside linebacker. Interviewed well and has the look of a trustworthy, long-term starter given his pass-rush ability, motor and makeup. Needs to get stronger, but impressive display of speed, athletic ability and explosion will enhance draft standing.
Attouchu played behind Joey Bosa last year and battled a couple injuries in 2016 but had a nice second season as a pro in 2015. Started the final 12 gqames and finished with 55 tackles and 6 sacks . Good replacement for lynch and/or Tank IMO
rob- the guy sounds like he has potential. I don’t think he’s a lock to make the team though. If nothing else we have some extra competition and I am sure we aren’t done with that position by any means.

Combines are quite boring to most but, very informative to the evaluation process.

Lynch was a mystery to me it looked like he had all this talent but nothing was ever consistent with him. Curry sounds interesting.
Both Tank and Armstead have to show something this year. They were both high draft picks but it’s been some time now and that doesn’t matter much anymore.
