Morning Has Broken

The rain has stopped anyway. And a new dawn has broken over 4949 Centennial Blvd in Santa Clara. At least that’s how it feels after this draft. Sure, we won’t know how well these picks are for a couple years, but the deals John and Kyle pulled off to get Thomas (the guy they wanted anyway) and Foster (to trade past NO) were stellar. Foster was a top 5 pick in just about everyone’s book. As was Thomas. Ending up with both is a huge shot in the arm for the defense. Throw in a lanky press corner in Witherspoon and the team looks a little better. Given that, they still managed to gather an additional 2nd and 3rd round pick next year. Handy for trying to get their next and future quarterback. Next year’s class is much better than this one, so the picks will come in handy for trades up, or even to get Kirt Cousins,

And, it’s not like this teams doesn’t need everything, so every pick is worth some value. But beyond the 10 picks they drafted, the Niners already inked a few highly touted UDFAs in Cole Hikutini, KD Cannon, and Noble Nwachukwu among others. As I said, the roster was a wasteland of limited talent and ACL guys, so this looks to be a pretty big bloodletting for the incumbent players.

Parity being what it is (hi, Flying V67!), fortunes change quickly in the NFL. And with the parity factor built in to the schedule, we have an easier row to how schedule-wise. What does this mean for the 2017 season? Well, we’ll see.

Speaking of hatchets, here are the cuts, post UDFA signings.

    Alex Balducci OL
    Marcus Ball S
    Carl Bradford LB
    Jayson DiManche LB
    Je’Ron Hamm TE
    Chris Harper WR
    Wynton McManis LB
    Brock Miller P
    Zach Moore DL
    Mike Purcell NT
    Eric Rogers WR
    JaCorey Shepherd CB
    Shayne Skov LB

Who know Winton Marsalis was on the team? The only guy that did anything remotely good was Skov on ST. Then there’s the CFL guy, Rogers.

It only demonstrates how little last seasons players were valued. One by one they walk the plank.

    • 12th man says:

I thought Rogers was going to be the next big thing according to last year’s coaches. So much for that.

  2. Winder says:

It truly is a new day. And, it looks like there really is a plan. Waited all this time for the draft and now can’t wait until the pre-season to get a look at the guys.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, there is something to be hopeful for. With the Giants flailing, football can’t get here soon enough.

    • Winder says:

From what I have been reading Fosters shoulder might turn out to have problems. Hope that isn’t so.

      • Nipper says:

Niners docs passed him. So they drafted him. Even if the worst happens they can repair it again. Drafting him 31st helps with the risk.

  4. unca_chuck says:

Shit. Oh well. Yet another injury-plagued guy? I don’t think so, but we’ll see. Hard to play without a sound shoulder though. Especially at LB.

  5. Berger says:

Arik Armstrong played last year with a shoulder that kept popping out of socket. That’s as tough as you can get.

  6. Winder says:

Fuck it it’s way to quiet here

  7. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, no news for a while. Might as well play some music.

  8. unca_chuck says:

And hey, just because I think these are the best last 2 songs on just about any album.

  9. unca_chuck says:

And, for old times’ sake . . .

    Love this. The Bruise Brothers.

    • Winder says:

We need to find another one just like him. I was kinda hoping we would have taken Adams but then I really don’t know how to evaluate. Hopefully Thomas and Foster are all that.

  10. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, my son wanted Adams as well. I was on the fence but thought we needed a pass rusher. We will see. At least there’s a sense of some hope that these guys are doing the right thing.

Not to mention….. Lynch seems to be heading for a DT position if we’re to believe this report?
Report: 49ers’ Aaron Lynch is 20 pounds overweight, may get cut

Here’s my contribution (which I’ve probably shared before)’s phenomenal IMO –
My favorite version of Cortez the Killer. DMB and Warren Haynes.

  13. NJ49er says:

Gotta give Neil some props as well – This version with Pearl Jam –

  14. NJ49er says:

And, I never get tired of listening to Michael either –

Take your pick – Appears as though the entire arsenal loads on this link –
      May I suggest…
      Lie to Me
Icepick through my heart… as an appetizer?
Plenty of good chest pounding Blues to choose from.

      Have Fun 😀

  15. NJ49er says:

This one is always fun too –

  16. Nipper says:

Giants lose another game in Cincy badly. But the Warriors win another one. Utah is not up to par.

  17. NJ49er says:

Been spinning this classic album recently and wanted to pass it along for those with some time…

  18. Nipper says:

Giants keep losing……losing…..losing…..losing……badly. Now a trip to NYC. Good luck with the road trip gents! Oh the bus broke down. Ouch!
