Not-So-Wildcard Weekend

So far, meh. The resurgent season of the soon-to-be Vagabond-Vegas-Carson-Des Plaines Raiders was waylaid by an injury to Derek Carr. Holden McGroin also went down with  shoulder injury, so the task of beating the best defense in the NFL fell to Connor Cook. Game, set, match as the Texans, minus JJ Watt was still able to silence the Silver and Black.

The Seattle game? Well, Detroit is still searching for a road playoff win. Their last? Well, the fricking 1957 NFL championship game at Kezar that the Niners blew a 20-7 halftime lead. Beyond that, Seattle got their share of help from the refs, and did enough on offense to handle Detroit in a quite boring affair.

Both these games sucked. Although I did pick them both to win.

Today? Miami at Pittsburgh?

No brainer. Warm weather team travels to cold weather site and it is COLD. Pittsburgh 23-7.

Giants at Packers? This looks to be the best game of this WC weekend. Think the Packers continue their roll. Eli and Co have beaten good teams, but Rodgers will prevail. Green Bay 28-20.

Other than that, the Niners are still interviewing and haven’t done anything yet. They need to get off the schneid on the GM. They are competing against no one for that position. Get it done already.

PS> Is it me, or was this a crappy season? I mean beyond the fact that the Niners suck hairy balls, it seems like there is no electricity to the season. Dak Prescott is the only player to really leap out as being exciting. I hate Dallas, but they look to be the best team. That being said, I think just about any of these mediocre teams could run the table. QB play has been awful for the most part. Arcane penalties, home town reffing, and convoluted rules have seemingly conspired to suck the life out of what was a great game. There’s no end in sight.

All these teams, short of the usual New England, seem to have flaws that can be exploited.

Well so far today Antonio Brown has come to play scoring two TD’s in the first quarter of the Steelers game.

  2. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yet another indication of why the NFL is retarded. Moore gets levelled by a Steeler on a borderline hit. Yeah, they call a penalty. Because of the play, a Dolphin shoves a Steeler. 15 yard penalty for that? Fucking retarded. Like the Boldin calls yesterday, the refs have to understand that these guys are jacked up (legally or not) and emotions run high. To equate spearing with a shove is ludicrous.

Because of the play, Miami faces 1st and 25. So, Pittsburgh comes out ahead when they head hunt the QB. Brilliant.

I gotta admit when I realized the niners sucked(second game of the season)my enthusiasm for nfl football kind of went out the window. The games that I did watch had some moments where it resembled real nfl games but overall play was not very good. The fucking refs had a lot to do with that. But, I didn’t see any player really stand out. I think Carr of the Raiders and the QB for Dallas are gonna be future stars. Other than that I saw a lot of mediocre football. Glad I don’t have season tickets anymore.

  4. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Another TD for the Steelers by Bell. Dolphins are getting their asses handed to them 30-6 Steelers.

For whatever it’s worth, my dad was at that game against Detroit in 1957.

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

No shit. That one was before my time. Welcome to the blog . . .

  7. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shout out to Twinfan! They just showed your dad (Ray Scott) on the pregame show.

And NoFear still loves some Nolan Dick in his mouth.

Good to see NoFear, along with Buwwitt, staunch in his support of Young Jed in his mangling of the 49ers.

You’d think they would see something other than Kappy is the devil.

    The playpen is open!!!

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The DC for the Giants should be taken to the woodshed. He played the 4th and 2 with everyone close to the line. The safeties were up, not playing the deep ball.

Who has the most hail Mary connections these last few years?

    Duh!

  9. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

    Yeah ……no surprises this weekend.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Picked ’em all right. Did that last year, then missed most of the rest.

  11. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Should be some pretty good games from here on out. Too bad both Dallas and GB couldn’t lose. Maybe they could tie. I know that isn’t possible but it sure would be hilarious.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I don’t like a lot of these playoff teams. Including Dallas, Seattle, NE, and the Steelers.

Unfortunately one of those teams is gonna win the Super Bowl. I’d love to see KC win, but i really don’t think it happens. Their offense isn’t scoring enough, and Pittsburgh’s defense is plenty good enough to stop Alex.

Green Bay doesn’t stand a chance. They shoulda been down 14-0 to the Giants in the first 8 minutes but the Giants were too busy with their travel plans and forgot to catch passes. GB’s defense is fair to poor and they didn’t get any pressure on Manning. Prescott will light them up and # 1 rusher Elliott will run right through them.

I don’t have any kind of read on Atlanta. didn’t see them much, but Seattle is looking like they are rounding into playoff form. Maybe they will do their usual struggle on the road. Hopefully they don’t have the refs (perpetually) on their side.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Houston? Their D is going to have to pitch a shutout to win the game vs NE. No way.

    Pitts 27 – KC 17
    Dallas 33 – GB 28
    Atl 28 – Sea 21
    NE 85 – Hou 6

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

Looks about right. Atlanta’s defense has been suspect but they just score more than their opponents.

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Here’s what Peter King has to say about the 49ers current situation:

I’ve heard good things about the 49ers in their interviews. Why? Because they’re willing to import a coach who would be in charge of re-inventing the culture in San Francisco. And they’re willing to be patient. By patient, I mean willing to give a long-term contract to a coach, listen to his recommendation for GM, and steel the locals that this is going to be a significant rebuild. Smart. There’s no other way to do it and to have a chance.

WTBF? You DON’T hire your head coach before your GM. I’ve been saying this since Baalke hit the bricks.

King is either on Jed’s payroll (with Trent Dildo) or he’s got a screw loose. BAH!!!

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

And another thing. Hire the GM in the next 4 days because there is no competition in getting one.

That way HE can find the next HC while there are some available.

  16. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Jed as owner will do as he pleases………the coach will be hired first and the rest of us can go eat cake!

  17. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Maybe Jed will listen to this in his new Cabana

  18. Winder's avatar Winder says:

    Or maybe this.

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

This the best college football has to offer?

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That was a catch. Not sure how they ruled that play an incomplete pass when the ball never touched the ground.

  21. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Snooze fest of a bowl game.

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Boo hoo. NoFear takes ’49er’ off his name and pines for Mike Nolan. NoFear also forgets that the 49ers were relevant a couple years ago. With the same dysfunctional clowns in the front office.

All they need to do is get a good GM who can draft and the team can do well in a year or two.

It isn’t magic, and Mike Nolan isn’t coming back to save us.

Is Jed up to the task? I don;t know, and recent history doesn’t suggest good things, but hey. We all get to watch the train wreck together.

Fucking Jags took my advice and hired Tom Coughlin as their VP. Said that 2 weeks ago.

NoFear could actually learn something over here instead of presiding over the playpen.

  23. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Mike Williams os a damn good WR.

  24. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

This turned into a good game. Glad to see Clemson win. Dwight Clark’s alma mater.

  25. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shit, I’d take Mike Wlliams in the 1st. I don;t give 2 fucks about what people say about drafting WRs, Williams is the real deal.

    • Winder's avatar Winder says:

At this point getting a class WR at 1 is alright with me. We still need someone to throw the ball to em but maybe we pick up someone in FA and then draft our future QB in later rounds. All I know is we need quality offensive players.

  26. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Grab ‘Bama ILB Reuben Foster 1st –
Shoot for WMU WR Corey Davis later down the Board in RD1 if possible.
Mike Williams broke his neck in College –
If ACLs worry you, a neck fracture at the NFL level should too, it scares me.

  27. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

If McDaniels lands the HC job, it’s very possible a WR would take a backseat to a TE too.
We might end up parting with a Pick or 2 for Garoppolo in a McDaniels HC situation too.
It would provide an ‘Instant Offense’ sort of situation between them.

  28. NJ49ER's avatar NJ49er says:

Not sure ILB Foster is worth a 2nd Pick so, it might be possible to deal back for an extra Pick, to sweeten a deal for Garoppolo too.
    Philly is holding 2 1’s.
Depends how our new GM can play the Board, (and the other GMs), on Draft Day.
Seems to me, our new GM to be will be the guy getting played but, who knows at this point?

  29. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I’m not trading for grloroppolo. Too risky for our 2 and whatever else Belechick wants.

Trade back? Sure. But anE QBs have what used to be the 49ers effect they look awesome in our system but suck elsewhere.

Bono Grbak Cassel Benjamin even Druckenmiller and a couple others I cant remember.

  31. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

Mike Nolan admits it’s better to hire a GM first although he didn’t do it that way. Nolan sounds a lot happier out of the coaches line of work. He claims a lot of coordinators don’t make good HCs. The jobs are too different to compare.

  32. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

He should know . . . Somewhere NoFear is crying.
