Well, here we are on the cusp of another lost season. This year it is Chip Kelly’s turn to feel the heat. Last year it was Colin Kaepernick on the hot seat as the team lost bigly and badly. This year it’s Blaine Gabbert on the chopping block as he dinks and dunks the team to 4 yard gains on 3rd and 7. Chip had the gall to say the stragety for getting 1st downs on 3rd and long is to throw underneath the coverage and let the receiver get the yards himself. When there are 9 guys playing 5 yards and in, this doesn’t work. Which is why we lead the league in 3-and-outs.
Dallas? Well they drafted a QB. In the 4th round. And he made a mediocre team instantly better. I said at the beginning of the year that Dallas would be better off with Dak than Romo. I’m pretty sure this is true. The Niners? Well, we desperately needed playmakers on offense so we didn’t draft any. We signed 15 UDFA WRs that aren’t on the team, and the QB we drafted was plucked off the practice squad by Cincy. Bleehhh.
So, here we sit. Teetering on the edge of The hope is this team continues last year’s pattern of playing well at home. I’m fairly doubtful at this point after seeing last week’s ‘effort’ vs Seattle. The offense was boring, way too conservative, and Kelly appears scared to let Gabby do more than throw 5 yard passes. Which is a challenge in itself. The defense was awful. Flat and toasted in 3 plays. Seattle’s first 4 drives netted 220 yards and 21 points. Our first 4 drives netted 57 yards, one 1st down, and 3 points. Ballgame.
Not sure how we do better against one of the hotter teams in the league, but an improbable win would actually be a good omen for the rest of the year. The Cards, Bills, Bucs, and Saints follow, and they aren’t all that good. But neither are we. If we play out of our minds, we could be 3-3. I ain’t holding my breath though. Maybe they’ll wake up before halfway through the 2nd quarter this game.

This may well be Baalke’s last stand. If the Cowgirls take care of business, it should be chopping block time and Gabbert had better be out of the starting QB role. Jesus H. I don’t see the Niners doing anything until they develope a passing game. And a passing game is the one that P Manning did, Cam N and Russel W does. When they pass it is greater than 3 yards down the field!!
Yeah, Once upon a time, this would be the biggest game of the year. Now it’s just another possible annihilation at the hands of a fair to middling foe.

I have a friend who played QB for the Seahawks. He hasn’t seen the 49ers play since the Rams game. His comment to me today was that he was surprised how uninspired the 49ers looked. I told him I wouldn’t be surprised if it is because of the BLM movement by Kap. He said that is what has been hearing around the league.
Who is this QB you speak of? If he isn;t in the 49ers locker room, then he’s got as much information as I do. Kaepernick has nothing to do with BLM, besides. So, like I said, Bergs, take it to the playpen. Teams all around the league are joining in. No one anywhere thinks this is a very divisive deal anymore. My point was my friend who played for 6 years in the league thought we looked uninspired. I gave a possible reason. He said there is thought around the league about that. Nobody accused anything, just saying there is talk in the NFL regarding the situation.
If you don’t think it is because of Kap’s black power movement then what do you think caused us to look uninspired to an experienced NFL eye? Even an inexperienced eye could see looked uninspired.

My take on Gabbert is it is hard to rate a QB in a new system. Prescot is in a new system for him but not for his team mates. Big difference. Still, I don’t get the feeling he is a starting QB. Time will tell but he does not seem to have that ‘it’ factor. Chip’s conservative play calling seems to match Gabbert’s conservative QBing. Pretty frustrating to watch.
So what are our options? If we go to Kap he will look downfield until he gets sacked, get injured and then we pay him 14.5 mil to not play next year. That leaves us with Ponder who I’ve always liked as a QB but the jury is still out if he can be an effective NFL QB.
These options would seem to give Gabbert a longer leash than in a normal situation. Gabbert does have a chance to be a good QB but I wouldn’t bet on it. At least he has some time to operate in the pocket, something a 49er QB hasn’t had in years.
Here are some questions that makes the jury still out on Gabbert. Is Chip calling plays so conservatively because so many WRs aren’t quite getting the system yet or is he just being himself. Or, is the QB just playing it out on passing downs that make Chip look more conservative? I think it is all of the above but I can’t know for sure without being part of the team.
The other thing is with the defense giving up so many points and the offense going up against some of the best defenses it is a tough situation for any QB. Having said that I would like to see something this week that makes me feel better about Gabbert as our QB and Chip as our play caller.
Dear Lord……..reward 12th with a Niners victory. He deserves it. Amen.

Hard to rate Gabbert? Watch him play. He’s had plenty of time on most of his throws, and still skips passes and throws into double coverage. He checks down before giving plays a chance to develop. See the -2 yard pass on 3rd and 8 vs Carolina. He’s skittish for no reason. He NEVER throws past the sticks. Can’t say I can see the coverage every play, but I’ve heard enough from guys like Eric Davis that guys are getting open deeper than he’s targeting.
If Chip has no confidence in Gabbert being able to go downfield, then he shouldn’t be in. Go with Ponder if Kaepernick isn’t ready. This is likely Gabbert’s last game should we get waylaid again.
Skipping a throw into double coverage is probably a good decision.

Some people get it, some don’t. Dak walked into a system different than what he played in college, as did Wentz, Yet they seem to be able to pick things up quickly. Gabbert has been ioin the league long enough to hopefully be able to adjust. Chip never had problems going downfield, but he did have guys like DSJ.
How T Smith has not seen a deep ball is baffling to me. The line is blocking well enough for Gabs to take a shot or 2.

Bergs, I said this Sunday, but a reason for the uninspired look may be because it was Seattle in Seattle. I said the Niners are so psyched out by this team that they are defeated before the wheels even touch down (no pun intended) at Boeing Field. They did not look that way on the road against the defending NFC champs. They made a lot of mistakes, sure, but they played hard and fought back.
The fucking Seahawks are in their heads and until that is overcome we’ll see more of the same when they play Seattle, specifically when they play Seattle at the Clink. I expect them to play with a lot more energy Sunday against Dallas.

The coaching was awful as well. 3rd and 14 and they rush 3. I KNEW they were going to hit a big play there. Retarded defense there. Running into the line halfway through the 3rd quarter down by 21 is another sign of surrender. Chip was trying to hold the ball to keep the score from going higher. He;s not going for the win in that spot.
If he has no confidence in his QB he needs to get him out. Kappy? Ponder? I don’t care at this point. The fucking blocking isn’t half bad. Gabbert is just shitty.
The tean gets uninspired when the QB can’t see a wide open receiver ten yards downfield right in front of him, and instead decides to skip one to a blanketed receiver.

I can’t copy and paste the one with the open receiver on the go route and no deep safety on the field – easy 6 with a good pass. Hey, at least Gabs got the short five yard gain on the play, though even that got blown up with no YAC because he threw behind the receiver instead of leading him.
I smell uninspired on that play.
At least we’re not the Miami Dolphins. I saw the game last night and still don’t if Tannehill is any good. He simply had no chance. Their O makes ours look positively Walshian.
One problem I have noticed in the run game is Buckner is getting washed out wide and there is no LB filling. Buckner needs to start playing more aggressively. I can’t imagine the coach told him to float wide when we have an OLB out there. He did get more aggressive later in the game. We shall see.
I’m read that the MNF game this week had only 8 million viewers. Is that possible. The article said it was a record low for a MNF game.
