I see this Season starting with lots of motion and ground attack.
Our OL is going to take time to adjust to the new system, however, a WCO should help them once Alex and the WRs get into the necessary rhythm.
Game 1, lots of Gore and Hunter, 9ers win a close one. I do expect Harbaugh to take some deep shots though, VD and Braylon will be a nice duo.

Well fuck me, nothing I wanted happened today. I guess now all I can do is ride out this shit storm. Hope some of those guys make it back. I would like to see Taylor, Rush, Dres, and Driskel and a couple others make it back. Our PS is usually made up of mostly linemen with a LB/ RB/WR/QB thrown in.
Well, I only know who about half those dudes are so I’ll just assume all those guys are good cuts. I’m still worried about our receivers who might be the worst collection the league has ever seen. Does it really matter who’s throwing to them at this point? What’s the over/under on number of players who boycott the anthem next game? I’ll set the line at 3.5. Who wants action!
Kerley shouldn’t be too bad, and we traded for Rod Streater from Oak. A solid Torrey Smith will hopefully get on the field and do some shit.
BTW, Gabbert was named the starter for Game 1 vs the Rams.

Yeah, all those 4 yard passes should be entertaining. I do like the Streater pickup and by all rights we have an ok group of WR’s right now. We just need a QB that can utilize their talents.

Can’t wait for that Gabbert start. Getting to watch all those three yard passes will be a special thrill. Yea team! And perhaps if we’re really lucky we’ll get a Kap sermon about equality. Without police support that traffic around Levis will be especially wonderful. Perhaps there will be a sick-in. The cops are sensitive that way.
Biggest shock, Garrison Smith, he is starting quality.
We did keep 7 DL. That is a lot for 3-4. Hopefully Smith comes back to the PS and gets in after the first injury.

I would have cut Kap or Hodges or Wilhoite.
I’m concerned we kept only 3 OLBs. That is going to bite us in the rear. Maybe we plan on using a bunch of 4-3?
Lynch comes back 4 weeks and Blair can play the position in a pinch but I did expect them to keep Rush and drop Hodges making it 4 in and 4 out.
I realize we get Lynch back after 4 games. We run a hurry up offense. I would not go 1 game with 3 OLBs. If Blair is out there we will be in a 4-3.
He can play DE/OLB. Same as Tank. They play both 4-3 and 3-4.Nice D line depth for it this year too.
I know Rush couldn’t set the edge but figured he showed enough for a 3rd down specialist on the 53.
I will be surprised if Garrison Smith clears waivers but hope he does.
They get up to 10 guys on the practice squad so hopefully those young guys clear waivers and end up there, Rush, Anderson, Taylor, Driskel, White, etc.

Not the most intimidating group out there. It’s time for Patton to put up or shut up. Losing Ellington was a killer, but even he was no lock to be serviceable. Streater & Kerley have been productive and Smith is the burner. Burbridge didn’t make much of a splash in the games, but they must like what they see because he made the squad.
Could get ugly out there folks.
I’m hoping that once Driskell is available for the PS, we sign him and cut Kap.

well, it’ll be *not bad* if they contribute. Making a bad team isn’t a sign it was a good draft pick. Being productive is the sign. TB was on the hot seat with this draft. I hope for his sake and our sake that he hits the bullseye on a few of them.
Sure, but it does speak to the quality of the picks that they made the team out of the gate. That’s only step one. Now the real test begins.
Pfffftttttt…we’ll see how those WR’s work out. Smith is our #1 I guess? My suspicion is that starting corners shut all of our WR’s down but who knows? I loved Burbridge in college last year. It always amazes me of guys who dominate in college but can’t do shit in the NFL. The gap is wide.
Yeah, Smith would be the #1, whatever that means. He’s a starter. As of right now, WR is still a question mark for the 49ers, kind of like each of the last 4 years.
Flav, if the cut guys clear waivers, the Niners will decide who’s worthy of further development and sign them to the practice squad. Another team can sign a practice squad guy but must add him to their roster. They can’t sign him to their PS.

I said before the cuts, I think they keep Kap for at least the first few weeks of the season. Gabbert didn’t win the QB competition even with Kap not able to compete fully. They are not sure of him. Kap is insurance for them till they see what they have.
Personally I wish he was gone today.
Kaep has already proven to be decent enough behind a good Defense and running game.

Biggest issue I’ve had with Kaep all along is his desire to win.
Not saying much when the Tomsula Staff had to bench him in favor of Gabbert.
Then, he basically burns the remainder of his current deal, potentially, by not getting past Gabbert.
I simply don’t think he ‘wants it’ anymore.

Who do the Niners have behind Gabbert who himself is a questionable starter? If they cut or trade Kap today they are all in with Gabbert. That is not a smart move.
Kap is still coming back from injury and Ponder, who did pretty good in mop up, needs more time to both learn the playbook and for coaches to figure out what they have.
Whether you think Kap wants it or whether I think he deserves it, is besides the point. He is the best insurance policy they have right now.
He stays, probably 4 weeks, by then they know what they have in Gabbert, Kap and Ponder.

Ponder isn’t the answer over Kaep at this point but, he was the smarter move over Driskel.
Kaep still isn’t close to being the pocket equivalent to Gabbert.
Gabbert has shown to ‘want it’ more than Kaep, if we’re open to what Romanowski was reporting last year.
It’s all about trying to hold some leverage in these situations.

He’s a total distraction in terms of football unity.
However, he’s also a commodity that, (I’d assume), is what they’re trying to protect for some potential gain.

I’m not sure I’m caring much about the Niners anymore. Anyway, with their brutal schedule, I can’t see them doing better than 5-11. I don’t understand the Baalke congenital disability whereby he is wholly incapable of cobbling together a few, decent receivers. How he can expect to score points continually without a couple of decent wideouts is amazing to me…
The organization is making it very hard to really care much about this season and the immediate future. Sooner or later the dysfunction must stop. Hope I’m still alive to see it

The Cardinals owners, the Tidwell family, were infamous for how cheap they were. They finally changed when gate receipts and ticket prices were seriously low. Then hey presto a new stadium, new open checkbook for expensive contracts, hiring real professionals to run the team and success.
The Yorks have the stadium now but are still cheap on the players contracts, the real numbers not the reported ones. They went cheap on a coach, Tomsula, and are taking a risk on Kelly.
This year will be make or break for Baalke. I read on here that keeping 7 of 11 draft picks was OK. Actually its very poor, losing more than a third of this years draft picks is a huge number. Almost all draft picks make it to the 53, only a few get cut. Cutting over a 3rd is crazy. The Browns had 14 picks and they all made it.
Not a big Cohn fan but he summed up what I think is happening nicely in the article posted from above:

Not a big fan either, even less of his son, but agree with him here and Ira Miller too. Pretending it isn’t affecting the team, which is what Kelly is doing, does nothing to fix it and from an org standpoint, allowing your employee this kind of latitude while on the job is shortsighted IMO.
We are all free to express personal opinions, but can you do it at work, especially if it causes negative reactions amongst your co-workers?

Bingo, it is exactly the point I was making below, “a fading football star” is center of attention again. The Niners and the league have let the horse out of the stable by not cutting this off quickly. Now individual players will be using this or similar tactics to further whatever personal cause or agenda they want to push.

Using this blog as an example, show me where us bloggers are debating the police injustice Kap is protesting.
We are all blogging about Kap, almost nothing about his cause.
Factually, his protest is ineffective, even in the media. Other than a byline or paragraph that serves to explain a little bit about why he is doing it. The focus is all on him.
It is a “look at me” protest. a spotlight grab wrapped in a “cause”.
