The football landscape has not changed, and we await the start of camp at the end of the month with nothing more or less than about 1000% uncertainty. As it stands now we have a new offense which may or may not lead to 40 punts a game, a defense that may be required to play 100 snaps on defense, a waste-of-a-5th-round-pick punter in Bradley Pinion, who ended up 27th in average, and a 41 year old field goal kicker in Phil Dawson.
All in all, a recipe for 6-10. Shitty as that sounds, that would be an improvement. I can’t even feel very much excitement for preseason games, as we all remember (tinfoil) Samurai Mike Singletary going 4-0 in 2010 preseason games. The got him a whole lot of squadoosh. Granted, I’m curious to see how the offense works in real-time, but since we wouldn’t be playing the starters for any length of time, it will be very hard to grade these games out.
And, on a sad note, there’s the distinct possibility that one of the contributors to the madness here, NoFear49er, may have passed away in January. I don’t have any personal info for him, and I wouldn’t even know where or how to start to verify this, but Skeebers from the 49erOutsider has reason to believe he may have passed. I’m going to search the logs here and see if I can find anything, but if you folks know anything, please let me know.

Yeah I’ll miss NF though we’re near polar opposites in the political world. Most of the Nam vets I met when I was young hated the war and only went because they were drafted, thus a basis for our disagreements. NF is (was?) erudite and curmudgeonly at the same time, a tough combination to manage.

One more on the Warriors and then I’ll try to leave them till after the football season. I was far, far from alone in speculation about KD. Here’s why I patted myself on the back.
During the Thunder series, which the Warriors should have lost, then again against the Cavs where they were robbed, I had a vision of a man who would have been a perfect fit, an absolutely perfect fit to replace Barnes, a man to turn the Warriors into a playoff juggernaut, which they no longer are with the new defenses teams have come up with against the 3-ball.
That man was James Worthy. I literally pictured him teaming up with Steph and Klay and Draymond. Now they’ve got him, or a damned good imitation. Wow, just wow.
I concur. Barnes was invisible in the finals and most of the playoffs. He could have set himself up here last year but passed. Then he didn’t attack the rim mist of the year.
I hope the center we drafted is game-ready because we still need more interior D, but KD is the real deal.
It’s just really nice to see an actual all-pro wanting to come to the Bay Area to play Basketball. I am still looking for those flying pigs.
