Gimme a D. Gimme an E. Gimme an E. Gimme an F . . .

With another NFL season about to officially kick off in 3 days, the 49ers are once again in a state of flux. To be kind. Turmoil? Chaos? Clusterfuck nightmare? As those old commercials used to say, You make the call!”

Anyhow, thinking about the uncertainty that is our quarterback situation, let alone our new go-go offensive scheme, I’m starting to wonder about our defense.  I just don’t know diddly about our New DC Jim O’Neill. I know he had Joe Haden and Tramon Williams as his CBs, and we all are familiar with SS Donte Whitner. Throw in young FS Tashaun Gipson and this reflected well on Cleve’s pass defense. Other than that, Cleveland had a good defense with a lot of solid players. Sort of like what we have here. Although O’Neill’s last year in Cleveland proved to be a disaster as they sunk to the bottom of the NFL in points allowed and yards given up. Unbelievable to me is that the Niners ended up 18th in points allowed given the blowouts we suffered under. Cleveland was fucking 28th. Our D last year was maddeningly inconsistent, so the hope is more solid play across the board.

This year, as with many, depends on a pass rush that doesn’t disappear for weeks at a time. The defensive secondary was all over the place as well. And even Jimmie Ward came on and played very well as the slot corner. Depth is a problem, but with all these injuries over the past couple years, a lot of young guys have shown some ability. The D line looks to be a little iffy with Ian Williams having a setback in yet another injury recovery. We have bodies, but the hope is consistent pressure.

Still and all, getting these Cleveland retreads doesn’t seem prudent, but many a good coach has wandered through those revolving doors.

Gimme a thread that doesn’t change in the middle of my post.
I guess it’s just mora the same
Nice article on tank carradine. He started to make some plays last year so ..tim on March 29, 2016 at 8:59 am on March 29, 2016 at 9:02 amGood post CHUCK. The treatment ex players get is atrocious and is a real shame. With all the hundreds of millions in profit this crap is borderline criminalReplyrob on March 29, 2016 at 9:14 amAnother report on kap on March 29, 2016 at 9:29 amIt’s the new reality, Rob. Pretend that your generation is the most important, and fuck all the people that came behind you laying the groundwork.Replyrob on March 29, 2016 at 9:44 amYeah that’s my biggest concern too CHUCK.Not thrilled with having a new DC who’s defense ranked 28th last year. Add to it Chips’ teams being ranked so poorly in total ‘D’ to start with and you have to worry. The take on Tank sounds like a good one though. I’m guessing Baalke originally saw this as the role for Carradine and Tommy was willing to find the best fit for Tank last year.Replyunca_chuck on March 29, 2016 at 9:58 am

    It’s nice to be nice.

  3. Winder says:

It would be nice if Baalky took a long walk off a short pier.

Yeah, one more draft with Trent . . . Can’t say I’m hoping for too much. He can’t draft 3 years out as he’s got one year left.

Something or someone has to light a fire under his ass.

  5. Nipper says:

Sniff…….boo hoo……another year under Baalke. Better start the music videos. At least Bullit plays at the other blog. Gots to look on the bright side. Anyone for fetch?

    • rob says:

      Yup huge year for Baalke.
High draft spot ,most picks of any team and tons of cap space.
I expect nothing less than playoffs.

  6. rob says:

And just to be nice I’ll put this up. It’s a nice article on our defense.

    • rob says:

I just think has Acker under rated here. I also expect big things from tank this year.

      • Winder says:

rob, the defense is once again gonna have to save our butts. From what I have heard about chipper though it’s gonna be more like the last man standing. If we can’t find ways to get 1st downs our defense will crumble just like they have the last two years. No matter who’s on the team. I do love your enthusiasm though.

Yeah Winder like I was telling CHUCK

Another nice article. This one on Baalke . IMHO for a guy usually drafting so late he’s actually had some, well pretty nice picks

Hyde has to stay healthy to be considered anything but a waste. Ward played well toward the end of the year. Martin has been fair to poor. Borland? Great but gone. The rest are varying shades of backup. B Thomas is a hopeful.
