And So It Begins . . .

Vernon Davis is Casualty # 1 in the bloodletting. The 49ers traded him to Denver for a 6th and 7th next year, and a 6th in 2017. Normally this would be good news, but when you look at trent Baalke’s track record, well, al these picks he’s had haven’t netted enough to keep the team competitive. Especially on the offensive side of things. VD takes his stone hands and amazing speed off to Denver, where I’m sure he’ll provide Payton Manning with enough 12-15 yard passes to keep him happy.

Speaking of Trent, my biggest recent problem is, of course, running back. the Niners had, at one point, Carlos Hyde, LMJ, Kendall Hunter, Reggie Bush, Jarryd Hayne, Mike Davis, and a couple low-level draft picks. Well, Hunter signed an injury release, LMJ was cut, Hayne was recently cut, and we went from a plethora of guys to a minimal number. Hyde was getting dinged up before they let Hayne go. Hunter could have been PUPped, but they chose to chuck him to the scrap heap rather than wait the 6 weeks for his recovery.

The problem? Well, your #1 backup RB is Reggie Bush. A 30 year old guy who isn’t exactly Ironman. He’s more like Crystal Todd (for you oldsters out there). To exacerbate the problem, you just cut your nominal punt returner in Jarryd Hayne. So, your backup RB is now your primary PR. Your primary PR, who was your 3rd strong RB, is now gone. Bush of course already hit the IR with a calf strain after his 2nd rush of the season. So, Mr Durable is now your starting RB as well as your PR. What could go wrong?

Exactly. Nice work Trent.  or all the talk of Jed fucking the team over, one needs to scrutinize the job Trent Baalke has(n’t) done in recent drafts.  I said the bullseye would be squarely on Trent’s forehead if the team cratered, but he seems to be doing a masterful job of deflecting everything wrong with the team to Harbaugh’s guy Colin Kaepernick.

Problem there is Jed believes him. Might as well start Gabby Gabbertson and let the hilarity reach an all-time high. As in Jimmy-Hat fun times. Troy Davis, anyone?

. . . sigh . . .

Frankly, this year will be interesting only in the fact that they don’t look to do much winning. I’d better start watching more Cal games. this team needs to draft a QB and 5 offensive linemen.

Broncos are shopping for a LT, keep an eye on Staley today.

  2. rob's avatar rob says:

Omg gabbert is starting kap is benched

  3. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Like I said, ROB, all this will prove (Gabby starting) is how bad the team is. Will we run and block better for Gabby? Not likely but you never know.

Atlanta isn’t the defensive powerhouse that the rest of the teams in our division are, but I don’t see this outcome much better.

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

49ers sign ex-Saint RB Pierre Thoimas. Dumpster diving at its finest.

And they hope to get Kaepernick back on the field in 2 weeks.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

ROB, we need a GM before we start talking coaches.

  6. Nipper's avatar Nipper says:

This is the most rapid decline I can remember of an on the field team. Right now they’re unwatchable no matter who plays QB. Throw in the injuries and man it’s getting real UGLY!

  7. rob's avatar rob says:

imo pierre Thomas was a good signing

  8. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Think we’ll pick up Joseph Randle? He has about 305 yards and 4 TDs more this season than Kendall Gaskins. Oops, pending domestic violence thing going on, plus shoplifting last year (?), I’d joke about losing with class, but I’m a no fly zone with domestic violence. Seems pretty hypocritical of Jerruh, though, considering how much he’s been kissing Greg Hardy’s ass.

  9. Winder's avatar Winder says:

I’m just waiting to see how much the FO try’s to duck and dodge responsibility for this season, it should be interesting. If they try and use the injury card heavily then you know they are not carrying the load on their shoulders.

  10. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Winder, they’ve already found their scapegoat in Kaepernick.

It’ll buy Baalke another year more than likely.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

If Gabby Gabbertson craters, well, they’ll go back to Kaepernick and play out the string.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hah! He’s hanging with Nate Davis.

Ken Whizenhunt was canned by the 1-5 Titans. I wonder when Pagano gets the axe.

Tomsula stays because the front office is putting this season on Kaepernick.

    • rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Troy is a FA after one year in the CFL (cut after one year of three year contract).
Nate’s still playing ball with Amarillo about 170 miles from me. He’s had a lot of success in Texas Indoor.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

BakkenBullitt thinks Gabbert is a viable alternative. He and his 5-22 record.

Cutting Kaepernick is brilliant. Bullitt must work for the 49ers with that kind of brain power. We always did call him company boy.

  14. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

Kappy made his bed the day he diddled Aldon’s ex. It’s been all downhill since then and he’ll be gone before next season. I thought he might be traded to the Jets or the Texans, but it’s too late now. We won’t get anything for him when he leaves.

  15. rtfirefly's avatar rtfirefly says:

We still have to get rid of Bowman and Staley. Then we’ll have completed the destruction of the last Niners Super Bowl team.

  17. kappy49's avatar kappy49 says:

I been a Kaepernick fan since Harbaugh made him a starter but this decision to bench him was right on. I read both Skeebers and Unca_chuck’s blog for years now but never posted and I must say after observing both blog’s both sites I’ve seen unconditional love for the 49ers that would never waver and a team none of you would ever criticized. Del Mar was the only one rightfully critiquing this horrible ownership. No Fear? Please that guy plays it safe in the middle and that drives any sane man crazy when a fan plays it both ways. I take Unca-Chuck any day of the week at least I know no matter what he’ll back the team even if Jed came out and admitted he didn’t care. Oh sure Skeebers and his clones have jumped ship this year but that didn’t take intelligence to figure that out after Harbaugh left and Jed hired Tomsula as his replacement. I don’t know which was worst the Singletary hiring or Tomsula? Like Phil Simms said, “ This ownership hired Harbaugh moved the team, got the stadium deal completed and now they went back to their old ways” So now it’s all up to you to either figure out we have no chance to win the Super Bowl with this ownership or do you continue to believe? Is the fan base really this out of touch with the rest of the world? The jig is up, the cat is out of the bag, this ownership doesn’t give a rats ass about winning so well soon see who the passive are compared to the vigilant who will no longer put up with this shit.

The problem wasn’t Crabtree or Davis it was Kaepernick all along. Just signing a QB and throwing him all that money for accomplishing nothing shows a group of empty suits now runs our franchise. Just look at the hiring of Tomsula who had no head coaching credentials at all and Jed just removes Harbaugh when all he did to deserve to be fired was win.

If I hear any of you start your rah rah crapola again I’m going to puke all over my computer screen and turn this site solid green. It’s over, until this ownership is removed we will continue to lose, it’s time for all of you to wise up.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Geee, I wonder who that is. What about the escaped goats?

  19. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

How do we remove the ownership, Mr. Goat?

    Letters to the editor?

  20. 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Well Gabbert up till now has been a dud as a pro. Has he gained confidence and poise since he last saw a meaningful game? I read some want him to flop and some expect him to do well. I don’t have an opinion as yet, we haven’t seen him other than pre-season where he did well against the All-Walmart teams.
I know one thing, I am rooting for him to do well since he is the starting QB of the Niners. No reflection on Kap who I think has had it rough this year but whoever the QB is I will support 100%

  21. kappy49's avatar kappy49 says:

Ahhh, stop-attending games, purchasing merchandise and watching this nightmare continue. Then and only then will this ownership get the message. If no message of displeasure is given what will stop this downfall and utter destruction? If no ones held responsible for these disastrous conclusions what will ever change?

It’s up to the fan to be smart and diligent and with overpowering force of unity will our fate in society change. It’s like a guy pointing a gun at your face threatening to kill you. If you make excuses why he’s pointing that gun at your face who’s to blame? Who’s ever held responsible? Backing a brand that you love even though a deceitful demon is now running the show only show’s stupidity and the allowance for the tragedy to continue on.

Like Rich Gannon just said about Kaepernick, “I don’t see anything that will change, there’s nothing that he can learn that will help him, the planting of his feet to his vision and mechanics nothing that he can learn will ever make him great” Sound familiar? Alex Smith maybe? This all took place while most of you stood by and actually thought we had a chance to win. Look at Carr in Oakland, he’s playing great with enormous potential can you imagine next year and the year after that? This doesn’t take beefed up intelligence to figure right and wrong moves or if a player will be good or bad, it just takes common sense and someone seeing things for what they really are and not putting up with this ongoing BS that shown right in front of their very eyes.

Feel free to do what you want V, nobody is stopping you or preaching to you how to behave towards the Niners or feel about the team or any of its component parts.

As to your sage and repetitive advice, you can shove it. I will support the team how I see fit and no semi-illiterate blog blowhard will sway me one iota.

So ends our exchange for the day. Have at it dumbass.

  22. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Bullshit. Utter bullshit, V. That will take 10-15 years if it takes a day. Even then, there’s nothing the fans can do to force an ownership change. Media pressure and empty seats never stopped Modell, jerry Jones, or the Bidwells from selling. Only death. Even then the kids carry on. Look at Halas and the McCaskeys. The last bastion of kingdoms in America are football teams.

Sorry pal. Keep whining though. Hey, Eddie struck gold with Walsh. Maybe lightning will strike twice and his nephew will find someone. Shit, they should lure Scotty McDrinksalot back. He’s the one that built the team in the first place. Harbaugh lucked into a stocked franchise. Much like the diff between Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr. I’ll see if you can make the metal leap I just proferred.

  23. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The Rooneys in Pittsburgh and many others. Ownership change is fairly rare in football circles.

    Cowell on Kap:
    http://www.csnbayarea.com/49ers/cosell-supports-49ers-qb-change-cant-put-kaepernick-out-there

I think he has it right. Lots of mitigating factors we all see for ourselves but the bottom line is Kap can’t perform in these circumstances.

  25. Winder's avatar Winder says:

Jed isn’t going anywhere, but he will have to change the way things run. He has so much money that no matter what he does he will probably continue to rake it in. If he truly loves the franchise like he has said in the past he is gonna have to get out of his own way and let some football people run this thing. V does have a couple of valid points in that public pressure, the acknowledgment of incompetence, and the embarrassment of the franchise just might do the trick. The problem that I see in the future is bringing in qualified people. I am still one of the people that was glad to see Harbaugh go but at that time I thought we would bring in some offensive minded people. However, after seeing the way we’ve played so far I tend to think we just don’t have the talent on the team to do squat. And, that I put to much on the coaching, but at the time that is what I saw. Anyway, Jed will have to convince some good football minds that he will stay in the corner and leave the football shit to the pros. First move should be to let baalke go, bring someone in now to evaluate while we are still playing and not wait to the fucking last minute.

    • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

Sorry Winder but it would take some enormous mass exodus of fans who buy tix, attending or not, to make an impact on Jed or any owner. Plenty of franchises have sucked for decades and had low attendance with no discernible affect on the owners.

I have a hard time believing Jed is sabotaging his own golden goose. Making poor decisions perhaps, but intentionally causing his team to implode?

Talent has not played up to it’s pre-season expectations. Is that coaching, players or both? Hard to know. Kap has paid the first price which is a normal thing for any team sucking this badly on O, bench the QB.

Next will be the OC if not the HC if it doesn’t show improvement. Tomsula has the weight of the world on his shoulders at these pressers. He may be in over his head but again, it’s hard to know for sure.

Baalke, for all the second guessing after the fact, has done an above average job in gathering talent. Is it enough to give him time to turn it around? My guess is he gets another year.

      • Lurker John's avatar Lurker John says:

Good synopsis and my general take as well. I tend to avoid the conspiratorial and stay with what we know. The Niner front office has strung together a series of bad decisions, but the idea that they are intentionally tanking the team seems far-fetched to me. If anything, York has to have pride and presiding over a shit franchise can’t be doing his ego any good. I’m sure he’d much rather be boasting about putting together a Super Bowl winner.

My guess? He desperately wants to put a winner on the field but doesn’t know how, or, at least, doesn’t know how to work his way out of the present state of affairs. If he is going to make millions even if he puts a shit team on the field, then he’s going to make that much more if he fields a winner or, better yet, a champion.

Occam’s Razor. The simplest answer tends to be the right one.

      • 12th Man's avatar 12th Man says:

That’s what makes sense to me too.

  26. kappy49's avatar kappy49 says:

12th Man, I’m well aware that no change in our society will ever make you waver in your blind belief in anything. I’m also aware that if you can no longer tell a difference in the sport compared to the 60’s and 70’s it’s useless having an intelligent conversation with you. The NFL was allowed by fans just like you to completely change the sport, which the originators intended the sport to be. You stood by while they remove your balls, handed you parity, replace a man’s sport with Fantasy Football all to keep you still intrigued enough that you would continue watching and accept the change like a fool. You didn’t stop there after that Jed gave you Kaepernick who was the complete opposite type Quarterback that you should’ve been accustomed to given our great legacy we found wearing are colors was above, class, character and integrity to you.

Unca_Chuck, why is it that not tolerating failure that’s nothing more than a criminal act set out only to fool the general public considered whining to you? What do we call a continued belief when no ones giving you anything to believe in? There is no Walsh out there once in a lifetime buddy but handing the reins over to someone with no winning credentials or winning record of any kind is the first sign that you don’t really care who’s the head coach of your football team. One should asks are you interested in winning or just finding someone who will listen to your every word and do what he’s told to do? All an intelligent fan can do is boycott and voice their displeasure. If you support a team, and then they lose their essence, their players, their style of playing, standards, principles and the aesthetics of the way the play for which you supported them at the very outset, after what time do you pull the plug and stop supporting the team? To answer that question if an ownership at least try’s to win then that’s all a fan could ask for but if it’s clearly obvious that the person doesn’t care support must be stopped. If you continue on nothing will ever change your only hope is the no tolerance approach and forcing the person to do what’s right or remove himself accordingly.

  27. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

That’s the rub. As much as Jed, or Eddie, or any other owner professes he wants to do, hiring the riight guy to do the actual football work is the key. Jerry Jerk-o has been his own worst (GM) emeny for quite a while now.

Passing on Johnny Eightball was the first sign of normalcy in that organization in decades.

  28. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wow, V, easy to blame your problems on everyone else, you pussy. You fucking maggot.

Why didn’t you stop the pussifucation of the NFL? Huh? Where were you when all these changes went down?

Pussy. Chickenshit. Escaped retard. Blah blah blah. If winning in the NFL was so easy, everyone would be doing it. Even glory teams have down times.

For all the blame you cast around, your are equally guilty, so shut the fuck up about it already.

God you are fucking retarded. Sorry, pal. But we don’t sit on the rules committees or own teams. Get the fuck over it. Joe retired. Bill died. Eddie fucked up.

These are the facts. Read them. Accept them. Shut the fuck up forever about it.
