Just when it was safe to have an inkling of hope for the 49ers, Aldon smith decides to go an a little rampage and get into a fight with someone over a parking spot. After ramming the offending parker, Smith apparently left the scene and decided to get his drink on. Smart guy that he is, he goes back to the scene of the dust-up and is promptly arrested. Of Course Aldon denies being drunk when he hit the guy. He decided to get drunk after the fact.
Whatever. Until he realizes that he’s his won worst enemy, he won’t get any help. Thing is though, a talent like that won’t be on the sidelines forever. Pacman, and a few others, have made the trip from iron bars to the gridiron.
Anyhow, Tomsula apparently insisted on handling this alone, much like Harbaugh did the first time around. The only difference being Jimbo felt no problem with letting Aldon play hours after being let out of jail. Or letting RayMac play despite 2 run-ins with the police regarding domestic violence charges. Because, you know, winning matters more than character. say what you will about Tomsula, but he handled this situation very well.
Other than that, Frank Gifford passed away over the weekend. He was a little before my time, and Christ, I’d think death would be a happy escape from Kathy Lee, but for all intents and purposes, he was a great football player. I never liked him though. And I don’t know why. Too goodie goodie I guess?
Guys of that era went through a lot more punishment, as penalties were pretty much not called on anything that didn’t constitute attempted murder. The guy was MVP one year, and led the Giants to a championship in the 50s. He played running back, a little QB, defensive back, and became a WR after famously getting knocked unconscious by Chuck Bednarik of the Eagles and retiring for a season. No penalty of course. The picture of Bednarik exulting over his unconscious body is an enduring legacy of football in the golden age.
Beyond that, he was a very good, if bland, announcer for The NFL Today on CBS, and more famously as the foil for Howard Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith on Monday Night Football for nearly 30 years. Though he was a highly respected football player, he didn’t reach the HOF until 27 years after his retirement. Hmmm. I don’t dislike him so much anymore.

i wonder how many players could hang even through one game with the equipment and rules that were the 50’s and for the most part 60’s football. And most of those guys did it for peanuts. The love of the game had lots to do with it, indeed.
Players are bigger and faster now, but they got away with a LOT more shit back in the day.
Imagine coming home most nights and seeing Kathy Lee. That’s a sentence I wouldn’t wish on any man.

I mean really. What was their record WITH Harbaugh last year? 16-0? If Kappy needed help 3 years ago for his future yet unrealized problems created by the coaching staff, the same applies to Harbaugh’s blindness to his shortcomings in the red zone. And his problems getting plays off in time. Did harbaugh fix those problems? No. Did they exist before Kappy? Yes. Did we lose Super Bowl 47 because of this issue? Could be.
Frankly, if the team does well now, it’ll be one of the best coaching jobs in NFL history given all the shit they’ve dealt with.
But please. If they don’t do well, proceed to jizz all over your keyboards, and each other, fuckwads. Better yet, proclaim that you won’t go to any games or buy any more merch. Like you have ever gone to a game in your lives. Too scary. High comedy? Your mere existence is high comedy, Skeebs.

Brent Jones did say we were just going through the motions last year. That is what I saw and the main reason I say if Harbaugh was still the head coach we would definitely be sub .500. Probably about 5-11.Maybe worse. Any moron could see that a change was necessary at the head coaching post. And now Brent Jones just confirmed that the players were just going through the motions for Harbaugh last year. I have no idea how any idiot could not plainly see that.

Well, that’s the overarching point I’ve been trying to make for oh, 5 month now. That I choose to look at the positives for Harbaugh’s departure is my opinion, and no Commies (or village idiots) are going to change my mind.
No one knows how this season turns out, no matter how many people blather about it. And there’s a ton of blathering. Some people (superficial sheeple-types) look at Harbaugh’s departure and think “Oh no! Fearless leader is gone!” Some people think he was part of the problem, not part of the solution. Going forward. Folks bemoan Tomsula’s creds as a head coach, but gee, how many games had St. Jim head coached in the NFL? His grand total of NFL experience was 2 years as Al Davi’s QB coach and lackey back in 2002-03.
The Eagles were flying high when they put together their ‘dream team.’ ALL the pundits installed them as favorites to go to the playoffs. Vegas had them at 6-1 to WIN the thing. That didn’t work out as planned, did it?
Everyone is burying these guys, but like I’ve said, all they need to do is improve the offense and they should be in the thick of the playoff race.
All this strength of schedule bullshit is, well, bullshit. As are the ‘power rankings.’ Looks like a good season to pick up cheap tickets. All the hangers-on who have let go can always jump back on and plead temporary insanity. Hyuk!
