Game Day! Finally!!

I guess Bay Area sports fans should thank the NFL schedulers in their putting the Niner bye week right in the middle of the Giants World Series run. Worked out very well.

With that said, lets’ get back to football. There are 9 weeks left and this team has some work to do. The #12 issue with the team is their health. Willis is a game-time decision, Bowman still has a week or two of recovery, Dorsey will be back soon, and Aldon Smith should be joining the ranks at some point, irregardless Mike Florio’s unsubstantiated statements of him coming off the susp list early. Losing Kilgore was a killer, and they can’t take another hit on the O line.

The other issues remain the same. For some inexplicable reason, the 49ers run multiple WR formations between the 20s. When they get into the red zone, it’s back to the jumbo formations, and stagnation. This team struggles wildly in the red zone. If they can fix this, it’ll go a long way to actually getting double-digit leads. Something Jim Harbaugh seems to be adverse to. Along with this is the fact that the Niners tend to go away from things that seem to be working. If they find something to exploit, force the other team to stop it, don’t merely move on to something else.

Defensively, I simply was perplexed at how they tried to attack Manning. Playing off his WRs  and rushing 4-5 out of their base defense was asinine. That absolyutely plays to his strengths. The Ram game the previous week saw stunts, blitzes from different LBs, and a lot of movement along the line to dsiguise blitzers. I was excited to see how that worked against Manning, as I noted that it was the way Singletary and Co did a good job of containing Manning and the Colts a few years back. As above, they went away from something successful and it failed.

The Rams? Their pass rush seems revitalized in weeks, but they are struggling offensively. This SHOULD be a tune-up game. Let’s hope we can get on top and coast for a change.

This is going to be an interesting game. The Rams were up 14-3 with momentum on their side before the lucky pass from struggling Kaepernick got them back in the game. The 10-point spread is I think is too much, the Rams could be a dangerous opponent today regardless of their record.

One thing for sure it wont be a blow out and I’m sure Fisher learned from his blunder in the first game to make it a much closer game than some expect. I just hope if we’re down again that Harbaugh doesn’t expect another miracle to happen.

Remember at one point the Cardinals outscored their opponents 27-0 in the fourth quarter The 49ers certainly can’t say the same thanks to everyone’s hero Kappy, at one point they were outscored 28-0 in the fourth. The 4th quarter is where winners show up and losers choke.

Which explains your pathetic life,, V.

  3. thekiddiespal says:

Why the 9ers do patently-stupid things?

The “love of money” being the root of all evil,

silly as it may sound, don’t fail to consider gamblers’ effects.

Or “forcing” Harbaugh out by, covertly,

    taking decisions away from him.

    But, he’s the COACH!

    Really? As in “Dallas?”

Too what’s this about Michigan wanting him?

Might he for some arcane reason want to be FORCED out?

  4. spacetrip says:

Seems the truth has no place here but one must remember the truth will set you free!

With every new truth that is revealed we get a better understanding of Nature and our conceptions and views that are modified.

The truth is Harbaugh had his chance but made bad decisions that will cost him the opportunity to ever be consider a great Head Coach. The Ball control game while putting anyone behind center has disaster written all over it.

  5. trigger16 says:

I agree Harbaugh’s bad moves and the way he acts on the football field is despicable.

  6. trigger16 says:

Let go Niners let’s kick sum Ram Ass! Ooops can I say that here?

  7. spacetrip says:

Cardinals are playing tough, headed to the 49er game first time this season. I hope everyone has a great day. Should be a killer game!

  8. What the hell happened to the Chargers winning the Super Bowl? They’ve fallen back to earth even faster than Sputnik. 37-0 shellacking at the hands of the Fish and my boy Ryan Tannehill today.

  9. 12th man says:

    niners!

  10. 12th man says:

    Martin got beat that down

  11. Kap has still not learned about those passes. Should have been picked.

  12. snarkk says:

Well, first time I’ve seen the Niners throw a flat pass to a RB in years. Imagine that…

  13. And we have to burn a TO already…Yeah, this team is winning the Super Bowl.

  14. A. Davis beaten badly on that sack…

  15. snarkk says:

Anthony Davis looks like he can barely move against the pash rush…

  16. unca_chuck says:

    Run sometimes. Jesus.

  17. snarkk says:

Terrible 1st down play calls by Roman.
OLine playing like crap, doesn’t help that the first down failures put them in a bad spot on 2nd and 3rd downs. Watching this offense looks like watching Blanco make fake bunts…

  18. unca_chuck says:

O line looks terrible. Good to see us keep up with the slow designed pass plays in the face of their blitzes.

    There’s a nice play.

  19. unca_chuck says:

Staley got blown off the line. the Ram team isn’t good. They have no right being in this game by the 3rd quarter.

  20. snarkk says:

Bethea’s pick was good, but basically a gimmee. Terrible throw by Austin.
Niners capitalized on it. Finally with a TD. Not sure if that was luck for Boldin to get so open or a good misdirection design…

  21. unca_chuck says:

No help from Dallas. They have a shot to miss the playoffs after their hot start.

  22. snarkk says:

If I were calling Niner plays, I’d be calling draws, screens and flat passes all day as long as the Rams keep blitzing the way they’ve been. That is, if those plays were in the playbook…

  23. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, quick shit til they come up to stop it. It’s beyond this team sometimes to adjust.

Finally some pressure. Davis with some garbage throws.

  24. unca_chuck says:

WOw. Staley looks like he’s on break still. Same with AD.

  25. unca_chuck says:

Nice play. A little blocking there,

  26. 4th sack of the half. Sub-par OL play at this point would be welcomed.
    This is pathetic.

  27. Winder says:

I don’t think adjusting is in our playbook. Incredible.

  28. snarkk says:

Continuing to not understand Niner play calling. 3rd and 3, you know Rams will be coming, yet Roman calls a play with long developing routes. Has Stevie Johnson got near a ball this half? If so, I must have missed it…

  29. snarkk says:

Good news is when Aldon is back, he and Lynch are going to be crazy good on the rush…

  30. Like Dana Stubblefield opined, “Same old sorry-ass Rams.”

  31. unca_chuck says:

Coverage sack but I’ll take it,

  32. unca_chuck says:

    Hey. something different.

  33. Aldon Smith’s return isn’t going to improve this POS of an OL.
    Just sad.

  34. unca_chuck says:

This is insane. Empty backfield and the offense is surprised when they bring the house. The O line is beyond horrible.

  35. unca_chuck says:

This is how we keep teams in games.

  36. snarkk says:

Niner OLine just getting mauled. They’ve got to change this scheme up to take advantage of that Ram surge or Kap may not survive the 3rd quarter…

  37. snarkk says:

Niners still on bye vacation, apparently…

  38. unca_chuck says:

Borland ain’t Willis. 5 sacks by the Rams so far.

Wonder if we can get going here? This offense needs to somehow figure out screen passes rather than go with their slow developing shit, I’vew only been saying this for 10 years now,

    Nice run back.

  39. A 6-pack worth of sacks for the Rams in the first half.
    This Bud’s for you.

  40. unca_chuck says:

Terrible clock management, stupid sack by kappy. All we need is the miss.

    Wow. Bonehead play there.

  41. snarkk says:

Short of a turnover, Niners could not have misplayed that last series any worse. What a ClusterF of a series of plays. Horrendous first half of Niner football…

  42. Remember the Rams actually traded up to 8 to draft Tavon Austin.
    Swing and a miss.

  43. unca_chuck says:

Good to see we’re not the only idiots out there.

  44. snarkk says:

Do the Niners have a 2 minute offense. Seriously, do they? In that one series a few games back, they opened up with a no huddle. It worked. Maybe they need to try that here, stymie this pass rush. What they’ve been doing has not worked. Kap should just do the run/option offense in the second half, like the old Oklahoma teams…

  45. Tavon Austin is St. Louisan for A.J. Jenkins.

  46. snarkk says:

On radio, Tim Ryan calling for Niner screens and draws to counter the rush…

  47. unca_chuck says:

Let’s see how the adjustments work.

  48. snarkk says:

Fortunately the Ram offense has been as incompetent as the Niner offense…

  49. unca_chuck says:

    OK. How about the offense?

  50. trigger16 says:

My fellow 49er fans, I like little boys.

  51. snarkk says:

A screen pass sighting. Poorly done, but got yardage. Will wonders never cease?…

  52. unca_chuck says:

    Jesus. This is ridiculous.

  53. snarkk says:

Ya know, this play calling issue and time outs is really bullshit. It went on with Alex before Kap, so it can’t just be the QB. After 4 years of Roman and Harbs, it shouldn’t be happening. That kind of continuing coaching failure is now beyond inexcusable…

  54. The future president of the United States and his Pats putting a hurting on the Manning Boys in the first half. Only appropriate with Tuesday being Election Day. Remember to do your civic duty. Your vote counts.

And I swear to fucking Christ. If the 1/2 cent sales tax measure passes here in Pinole, I’m going to storm city hall.

  55. snarkk says:

This Rams offense suxxx pole, as Flavor would say. If the Niners lose to this POS squad, they should move back to Candlestick. I swear, the Cal offense would move the ball way way better than this Niner offense has, and look way sharper doing it…

  56. unca_chuck says:

Wow. We do not look like a very good team right now. Flat terrible. The run worked ok there so they try a long pass and get sacked. Kappy has to recognize the protection is breaking down and toss the ball. His trying to string shit out way behind the line just results in turnovers.

  57. snarkk says:

Niner offense today reminds of the days of Mike Nolan at the helm.
    Sheezus…

  58. But all the angst of our offensive woes are directed towards Roman. It’s Harbaugh’s offense. Roman just executes his plan and follows his orders.

It’s Harbaugh’s fault. Always has been.

  59. snarkk says:

Niner D needs to make a big play turnover…

  60. I hope Iupati enjoys his big contract and playing in Tampa next year.

  61. unca_chuck says:

Unreal. Playing to lose. This is a completely flat terrible stupid effort. This should have been a Ram TD.

  62. unca_chuck says:

Huh? No reason to blow the play dead. Harbaugh has some ‘splaining to do. His team looks like shit.

  63. unca_chuck says:

    Great. Lee fucks up.

  64. unca_chuck says:

Ellington gets a penalty for lobbing the ball? THis is the stupification off the NFL. Is this what Gooodell wants?

Fucking penalties on every play? Any emotion gets a 15 yard flag?

    • snarkk says:

Yeah, that penalty was just ridiculous. Ellington basically handed the ball to a Ram player. Why is that a penalty? You couldn’t even see it without a slow mo replay. Refs making up for a pretty hankie free first half…

  65. snarkk says:

Are these refs just making stuff up?
The runner never went out of bounds? Why blow the play dead? Illegal “block” by the kicking team, i.e., the Niners? None of that makes sense. Then, Lee shanks the re-punt. May be the worst game ever by the Niners in the Harbaugh era. Team is playing like they’re taking bong hits on the sidelines…

    • snarkk says:

I take that back. The defense has actually played all right, against an incompetent, horrible Rams offense. I’d let the Niner D take over on offense. Maybe they could move do some blocking and move the ball…

  66. snarkk says:

College football is way better than this. Way way better…

  67. Raiders making Seattle sweat up in Puget Sound…

  68. Kap audibled, Rams countered with their own audible…

  69. snarkk says:

The way this game has gone, I wouldn’t be surprised at Kap throwing a pik or some other turnover before they kick. Or, they miss a kick. Offense looks disorganized when they should be hurrying up…

  70. unca_chuck says:

    Well, that works.

  71. Winder says:

Fucking incredible. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to just walk away from the tv and out of the room.

  72. unca_chuck says:

Wow. just waste all that time while you fiogiure out what to do. \\\\

That’s either a completion, a TD, or an incomplete.

  73. Winder says:

We are not a good football team, we need to go back to the drawing board.

  74. unca_chuck says:

    If that’s a completion, it’s a TD.

  75. unca_chuck says:

    They’d better punch this in.

  76. unca_chuck says:

    Kappy up the middle

  77. unca_chuck says:

    He fumbled it twice?

  78. rikers says:

    Fumble….omy

  79. Only appropriate. We DESERVED to lose that game.

  80. unca_chuck says:

Wow. Unreal. Got to get a hometown call for this. We lost an awful game. Fuck. This probably is the season. Sorry to say.

  81. rikers says:

Appalling….those pricey ticket holders must be fuming

  82. unca_chuck says:

    Wow. Unreal.

This team can’t make a play in the red zone to save its life.

  83. Grumpy Guy says:

Holy shit. That was ugly. That was 2005 Alex Smith ugly.

NO ONE deserved to win this game, at least the offenses, but we deserved to lose more. We came out after the bye and looked like shit. Tell me the Fairy Tale about our great offensive line again.

This is in no way whatsoever a playoff team.

  84. snarkk says:

Offensive incompetence to a disastrous degree. You get two PI penalties to get you there with goal to go, and can’t get it in. This is not a playoff team. Maybe the rumors of internal dissension are true. That would be one explanation of this exhibition today by the offense.

  85. unca_chuck says:

Another totally shitty game for Kappy. But the pass to Crabs should have been a TD.

  86. thenflsucks says:

The NFL is now an inferior product. I’m losing interest. The Niner season is done.

  87. snarkk says:

I didn’t think that Kap catch was a TD. The ball did not break the plane. The next two calls were bogus. Totally appropriate disaster of a last series to end a disastrous game. The offense looked like it hadn’t practiced in 6 months. Harbaugh will be hard pressed to explain this one…

  88. snarkk says:

I don’t know what the defense could have done differently. They did fine without Bowman, without Willis, against a turd of an offense. You hold the other guys to 13, you should win. This Niner offense is just abysmal. Harbaugh and Roman have managed to channel Sing and run this thing into the ground…

  89. unca_chuck says:

Well, the consistency that they’ve had on the O line is gone. Injuries, holdouts, and penalties all lead to this bullshit performance. Both tackles looked lost. Martin struggled badly. Everyone looked bad.

Not a game to build on. The defense played fine. But Drew Brees is a little better than Austin Davis. Can’t believe they figured out how to fuck that all up.

Wilson just threw a pick. Go Raiders

  90. unca_chuck says:

    Overturned… Typical Raiders.

  91. snarkk says:

Unless the Niner OLine figures out what is going on, this team is headed for 9-7, or worse. The blueprint for other D’s has been set up. Lots of pressure, and this offense stalls like a flooded old car. No ability to block the pressure, or get WRs open quick; no screens, no quick traps. Call long winded plays and barely get them off before calling a TO, Kap makes bad choices under pressure. Keep calling play action when Kap barely has time to decide and throw in the shotgun. No ability to get plays off quickly when you have to do it. Totally incompetent look for the entire offense…

  92. Nipper says:

What a stench! I feel sorry for the suckers at Levi. I hope they don’t get too mad at the traffic going home. ONE BIG BLEEP!

  93. snarkk says:

New Orleans has been feeling it the last few games. Even with Willis back, the Superdome visit looks like a real rough time for the Niners. They’ve already lost two at home (Bears, Rams) that you figured for Ws. If they lose to NOrleans, they’re probably out of the playoffs…

  94. 12th man says:

Bummer. Tough to see a path to the playoffs after losing the easy ones.

Kap sucked, play calling was abysmal, O line is AWOL, other than that everything is just peachy.

Hard to understand how after a week of “self scouting” the brain trust could be out scouted by the Rams.

What the hell took so long to move Kap out from under center to buy a little time? The Rams D line was in the backfield in less than 2 seconds just about every down. Run game? Nothing quick and no disguised plays to fool the pass rush.

The same basic problem persists. In general the O under performs in various ways week by week and it ain’t the talent that’s lacking. I seriously think Harbaugh made a grave error in sticking with Roman. Loyalty is a fine attribute but Roman is less than the sum of the parts. The talent on the team deserves better.

Niners have a tough road to the playoffs now and will rely on the Cards collapsing in order to make it. Not ready to throw in the towel but it is time they went all out to win, no margin for error or for the conservative close to the vest strategy that has not worked this year. They need to use this years personnel to their max potential and I just don’t think they have.

Crabs has been less than stellar, Davis has been a bust, the running game has not had blocking to run through, in fact the only thing that has shown much of anything has been the spread whether from under center or from the shotgun. Time for a come to Jesus rethink methinks.

    • Still think Kap is going to be the best NFL QB for the foreseeable future?
Kap > Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson?
Go punch the next guy who you see that is all “tatted up” standing on the street in the goddamn throat. You’ll be doing him, yourself, and society in general a huge favor.

      • 12th man says:

I think Andrew Luck is the real deal. Wilson is not better than Kap for my money, he is further along the learning curve though.

  95. thenflsucks says:

I’m pretty sure 12th man is going to owe that Spitblood character $200. I’d hate to be the author of this blog’s potd.

    • 12th man says:

What’s with you clowns hiding behind multiple screen names? You screw up your reputations because you are assholes then get stuck playing whack-a-mole until whatever blog you are on figures out you are worthless, which takes not very long at all.

I made no bet with anyone but you know that already of course. Time for another screen name ass wipe.
