Paint it black, stupid girl. I’m high and dry. You are under my thumb, so doncha bother me. Well, the flurry of craziness around the draft is over, and the wait for the meaning of football life once again goes into hibernation mode. So, the only thing to do is debate the selections. Here’s the list of players the Niners took.
1 (1st round) Reid, Eric FS
2 (2nd) Carradine, Tank DE
3 (2nd) McDonald, Vance TE
4 (3rd) Lemonier, Corey DE
5 (4th) Patton, General WR
6 (4th) Lattimore, Marcus RB
7 (5th) Dial, Quinton DE
8 (6th) Moody, Nick OLB
9 (7th) Daniels, BJ QB
10 (7th) Bykowski, Carter OT
11 (7th) Cooper, Marcus CB
UDFAs include last place finisher in the Olympic discus toss, Lawrence Okoye; and Luke Marquart, a converted TE-to-lineman who is raw. Both these guys got aome amount of coverage as being anywhere from 3 to 7th rounders in the draft, and both are seen as projects with strong upsides.
So, the practice squad at the least looks to be replaced entirely. I really didn’t think they’d draft 13 guys, But I didn’t think they’d draft 11 either. As NJ pointed out (I think) though, the Niners already have 10 selections slated for next year. They can’t very well pack next year’s draft too heavily without missing out on some players this year. Plus, the last three guys are fringe at best anyway. And Marcus Lattimore will not see the field this season, and the jury is out on Tank Carradine as well. The team has told him to ease off on his intense rehab. In essence saying he has time to recover, don’t push it too hard. So that means there’s a little flexibility in teh decisions these guys make regarding who goes and stays.
All in all, I think they did about as good as they could have. Quibble about the players as you will, they addressed their needs with players they feel fit their system (Reid, Tank, Patton), can be coached up (Vance, Lenomier), or were added for depth (Lattimore, Dial, Okoye, Marquart). The casualties in all this appear to be Cam Johnson, Darius Fleming, Dan Skula, Michael Whlhoite, among a few others. Scott Tolzein will be in a fight with BJ Daniels for the 3-spot in the QB depth chart. BJ is more in line with the new direction of the 49ers QB situation, so the more Smithlike Tolzein may be eased out/traded. The thought being that these guys don’t pass up Colt McCoy as the 2 guy.
Saigon fell this date 1975.
And some younguns with their heads screwed on straight.
Hard to believe we’re closing in on 40 years NoFear49er.
Hoo Agh to the Red White and Blue
Or as I’ve heard it explained –

Hey NJ49er, I believe you got it right. I think that’s the way they put it out nowadays to the ‘cruits.
Didn’t do the hooah thing in my day, Al Pacino’s portrayal notwithstanding. I think it was a Ranger thing though until big Army started using it and the Rangers let it go. Esprit de corps is the intent anyway.
Well the confusion started for me mostly as a result of Pacino/Scent of a Woman to be honest.
Had a HS buddy who’s older Brother enlisted and served in Nam.
Through him I heard the H.U.A. explanation.
I guess with the advent of the typed messaging and internet, along with Pacino, it’s taken on a multiple of variations and spellings.
I bought the original way it was explained to me.
Sounded extremely Military and, made the most sense.
Thanks for the confirmation however.
Did have some early debate about another variation that made sense also.

Affirmative
I think it’s morphed into a catch-all affirmative reply. Maybe “hooah, sir” to an ossifer. Pretty much like “roger” or “roger that.” I’ve heard it used as a derisive name, too, as in “fuckin’ hooahs.” Which used to mean gung-ho Rangers now can be a pejorative term for Army troops in general I guess. Hey, who can keep up?
Seriously.
I’ll have to bring it up with my neighbors’ Son when he returns States side.
He’s current USMC.
See what the 20-somethings have to say about it.
All I know is fubar and snafu . . .
And a little about gremlins . . .
NoFear, Saigon falling was a long, long time ago.
My childhood best friend started a pool at the public HS on which day it would become official.
He nearly got kicked out. He’s now a retired Fox Exec movie producer with a zillion dollar mansion in Pacific Palisades.
My Dad was spending half his life on planes between The Pentagon and Houston.
My oldest brother was doing his best to dodge the draft and organize protests. He’s still trying to retire from NATO now after decades of work and a couple trips to that A place in Asia.
A long, long time ago. Lots of water under the bridge.
My friend now needed a ride to the hospital to check on his Old Mum, who had to go to emergency this morning.
And I’ve been flirting like crazy with on old girlfriend. She is a former model from Ole Miss with a Master’s degree. She still won’t tell me if she’s still married – but TWO can play at that game!
I really could not make this shit up.
I honor the brave men and women every day who risk everything to make the world a better place.
I try to bury the dead, cry a couple real tears and move on. Others need help, too.
Susan really liked the poem, Dennis. I’d forgotten it, as had she.
I owe you some points in FF. Three or four touchdowns maybe.
Has rookie camp started yet?
We haven’t even run the Kentucky Derby yet and you’re talking fantasy football. My horses don’t need any more carts in front of them. They have enough obstacles as it is. I’ll let you know well in advance when it’s time. Just in time to pound Reno into submission.
I was comment #49. I’ll take that as a sign of good things to come for the horses this weekend. 4-9 exacta box? They’re drawing post positions at the top of the hour. We’ll see who it is…
Little Nipper and Dennis’ Delight . . .
The world may be ending . . .
I thought that this morning. Landlord is over, cops are over, ambulance…
Not because of me, mind you. That would be a “neighhhhhh, burr”.
That’s not counting my friend’s Mom! She’ll be OK I hope.
I’d bring her flowers but, New Mexico flowers are quite illegal. I’ll have to figure out how to order some roses from CA.
Miles to go before I sleep, baby, Miles to go.
1800flowers.com lets you order deliveries from local florists. Have used them a few times for out of state friends and family.
Cool, JDR. Way cool.
Nice clip there RTF . . . good stuff.
arf!
