Arizona – The Future Home of our Former Starter?

As the 2012 season winds down, the 49ers aren’t exactly right where they want to be. The offense has been a little spotty at times, and the defense, minus Justin Smith, is struggling  pretty badly. Special teams are a shambles, and the coaching staff was pretty badlyt schooled in that loss to Seattle. They are dealing with a lot of injuries, including the recently concussed Vernon Davis, Mario Manningham, and the still -healing KW and Kendall Hunter.

In other words, the injury bug couldn’t hit the team as a worse possible time. Even still, the team has a shot to secure a bye with a win over AZ, and a GB loss to Minn. Both eminently possible. Or they could fall as low as the 5th seed if the Niners lose, Sea wins, and a bunch of other weird shot happens. Sea has a shot at that bye week. How important is the bye? Well, let’s see how the team gets through the AZ game before dealing with that. More injuries to key players would likely kill their playoff run, but a week off to healthy up would do wonders to the team’s chances. More than likely, the Niners would be facing Chicago or Minn if they play the 1st weekend, or Atl if they get the bye.

AZ comes to town looking like a team that got beaten, robbed, and left for dead in a ditch on the side of the road. They beat NE on the road, and took care of biz early to go 4-0 out of the gate. Since then? 1-10. Ouch. They are in the midst of a QB merry-go-round, and their offensive line is flat terrible at pass protection. Their run game is stalled, and Larry Fitzgerald, an otherwise top 3 WR in the league, is wasting away as the QB du jour throws shit 10′ over his head, or down near his feet. Should Alex Smith hit the market, this is his likely landing spot. Granted, he’d be dodging LBs as he tries to throw, but if AZ can build a decent enough line around him, he and the team would be solid contenders in the NFC West next year.

  2. Grumpy Guy says:

Ponder needs to not fuck it up with a mistake. Get 20-25 yards and set up the FG, then take a shot in the end zone if it is there… and USE UP that clock.

  3. unca_chuck says:

    Horrible coverage by GB there.

  4. 12th man says:

Dennis, when is enough enough? Niners have a young star in the making who may well help get them the 6th this year. Be happy.

  5. Flavor says:

there ya go dipshit, I gave you the winner. And I hit the tri with a 40-1 in 3rd.

  6. unca_chuck says:

    Well, they’ll burn the clock . . .

  7. 12th man says:

2nd seed baby!!!Can you dig it???

  8. Grumpy Guy says:

First down, one minute. Get a little closer and close out the clock…

  9. Flavor says:

E-Dick has got to be sweatin’ this a little, eh? Think he doesn’t wanna see this game go overtime, lol

  10. unca_chuck says:

Man, i’d like to see a quick pass for 10 yards here.

  11. 12th man says:

    Rams on Seattle 29

  12. 12th man says:

    Guy is friggin amazing

  13. Grumpy Guy says:

THERE you go… AP to set up a short kick.

  14. unca_chuck says:

Wow. Great run, and he stays in bounds.

  15. unca_chuck says:

    9 yards short!!! Damn.

  16. 12th man says:

I knew it! FORTY FUCKING NINERS!!!!

  17. Grumpy Guy says:

    Fuck yeah!

  18. unca_chuck says:

    Yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Love that bye week!

  19. Grumpy Guy says:

So, am I right? The Packers play the Vikings again next week, and the Redskins get the Seahags?

  20. 12th man says:

Dennis you need to reset all your predictions cause your baby boy Rodgers LOST.

  21. Chico says:

    Fuck yeah!

  22. 12th man says:

Niners can get to the dance this year.

  23. 12th man says:

Come on Twin, I know your reading, come celebrate!

    • He has a BYE this week, no worries

(Off Stage:) Twin, oh Twinfan! Where are you man?

(Chuck will never admit this but our traffic drops 33% when you ain’t here)

  24. Alleykat says:

Beautiful!! Get the #2 extra week for the Cowboy,Even Alex was thrown a bone today to take some major rust off heading in,in case of emergency role,or Kappy fuck ups.

  25. 12th man says:

I spent 3/4 of the Niner game at LAX, got back in time for the win and the Vikes win, love it.

    • Lezzee, getting outta LA = 1 win. Niners win = you get another win too. Minn wins = holy fucking shit Man, that’s a trifecta my friend!

BTW who we playing in 2 weeks? You were right so far about the Skins whippin’ da Cows… Chico wants to know (me too)

  26. Gropo says:

Unfortunately, Justin needs about 8 weeks.

  27. Grumpy Guy says:

The Redskins have to beat Dallas to get in – the winner will be division champ and the #4 seed.

  28. Grumpy Guy says:

A big time pass by ponder and another big run by AP, and they left Rodgers no time. That was the key.

  29. Grumpy Guy says:

There it is, Minn at GB, Seahawks at Wash or Dallas.

If Dallas backs in at 9-7, I’ll puke.

  30. Barleyfreak nailed the spread = 14 points; Chico almost nailed the score. Lets rest up for a couple weeks

  31. Flavor says:

I despise both the Cowboys and the Redskins, but I hate Tony Romo more than either franchise, so I’m forced to root for the Redskins.

    • Grumpy Guy says:

I will always hate the Cowboys more, because I was a fan in 1970 through 1972.

Every time they lose, I smile.

  32. Grumpy Guy says:

After a shaky first three drives, Kap posted a 114.6 passer rating today. third down efficiency was not what it should be, 4 of 14 for 29%, but that was mitigated by going 2 for 2 on 4th down. On Kap’s last 7 drives, we scored 5 times (3 TD / 2 FG) and had two of the drives end in missed FGs. We had no punts during that section of the game.

  33. 12th man says:

    I hate the Cowboys

  34. Flavor says:

I’m not a big *TD celebration guy” but I never really minded them either. TO’s *sharpie* td score was classic. But his celebrations on the Dallas star were 2 of my favorite moments of Niner TD celebrations. George Teague did what he had to do, someone had to do it, but that was a pretty recent time in sports history that seems about a hundred years away from where we are today…..

  35. Flavor says:

There’s not much you can count on in this world. But Promo playing in a big game (notice I didn’t say *playoffs*) and throwing picks is about as money of a bet as you can find. FUCK Tony Promo………..

  36. Del Mar Dennis says:

I LOVE to see the goddamn stretcher in football.
Some players get hurt and no longer can continue…
    Others? Play ball like AD.

You play to win the game and fuck everyone else in the goddamn ass.
Snap. Place. Kick. Kick. Fuck you Packers.
Did we win the game? I love this atmosphere.

  37. unca_chuck says:

With ya 100% Grump. Happy the Giants are out as well. GB and Minn go home and away. Don’t see that much.

  38. unca_chuck says:

Dallas is pushung these guys around up front . . .

  39. 12th man says:

    That was holding big time

  40. 12th man says:

    What a shit KO

  41. 12th man says:

14-7 Skins over the Romo’s end of the 3rd

  42. Chico says:

So who might we face? Any thoughts?

  43. B says:

Akers was shown the door in Philly, after a pretty good season. Apparently he’s a cunt every other season

    • Hopefully he doesn’t give the clap to the rest of the team… Bigger (and related) question: Can this bunch win more than 2 in a row? Three wins in a row = Lombardi #6.

Lets fucking DO IT, what you say?

  44. unca_chuck says:

If Minn beats GB and Sea beats Wash, we’d play Seattle again. More than likely GB comes here.

    • Chico says:

Thanks Chuck… Everyone at the Niner party today was inebriated by the 4th quarter, so nobody knew… I also got stuck driving 3 of them home. *facepalm*

  45. unca_chuck says:

Akers missed a bunch of kicks in 2010.

Romo with the backbreaking interception. Once again. And again.

  46. 12th man says:

Romo, predictable as always, throws a pick in crunch time.

  47. Chico says:

Romo pissed that one away.. haha.

  48. snarkk says:

I guessed an 11-5 record this season, and was pretty dang close. In some respects, this was a better season than last. Niners could not sneak up on anybody this time, had a tougher schedule, and had some big wins at NO and NE. They need the bye. Unfortunately, the wide receiver situation is IMO not a lot better than last season, with Manningham out. AJ Jenkins looks like he might be a Niner version of DHB. Hope not, but if your first rounder doesn’t play squat for a season, that sounds like bust…

    • barleyfreak says:

There’s reason to worry that he’s a bust, IMO. Jenkins finally got a ball in his mitts and he bungled it. That after waiting basically 16 games to get a chance. As a first rounder. Behind Ginn on the depth chart. Ginn. Harbaugh doesn’t forgive rookie mistakes easily and Jenkins drop isn’t exactly going to find him high on the target list entering the post season. Meanwhile we get to look forward to Delanie Walker getting open right and left, and catching or dropping based on some strange algorithm that scares the shit out of me if it comes down to a win/lose end-of-game situation.

  49. unca_chuck says:

Romo goes down in history as the smallest guy in big games.

  50. unca_chuck says:

Got to love Romo padding his stats in garbage time.

  51. Grumpy Guy says:

Pedestrian game for RG3 with only 100 yards passing.

But who blows mo? Tony Blowsmo!

3 more picks in another money game. Another Blowsmo performance.

“You can just go home and watch the playoffs on TV with the rest of America…”

  52. snarkk says:

Amazing how much national talk Romo and Tebow generate. One dude plays and sucks always at crunch time, one dude doesn’t ever play. Both on teams outta the playoffs, yet get more pub that dudes that get it done and are IN the playoffs. Pathetic…

  53. barleyfreak says:

After I predicted we’d lose to SEA but BEFORE we actually did, I thought to myself that I wouldn’t predict another loss for us and we’d win the SB. The SEA game was a face slap of reality, but at the same time, despite all the crapping all over ourselves in that game, I had trouble jumping on the end of the world bandwagon.

Today’s game had some good moments against a bad team. And while I still don’t think our D is capable of carrying us to the SB, If we’re going to make it, I think our O has to score points. I really don’t know what our O can do. CK has a resume of 7 games. 7. He’s made big time plays and rookie mistakes. If he gets on a streak, shit, it could happen. Not betting the mortgage on it, but I’m not going to lose faith either.

Not being dominant in all phases of every game and still winning the SB is totally an option.

  54. Del Mar Dennis says:

If David Akers is still our PK in the playoffs. Frank the Cat is going to piss on his first born male child.
