Wild Card Weirdness Abounds

Well, I was 1-3 for my prognostications. Sure glad I didn’t bet any real money. No one got all of ’em right, because no one picked Denver. Not even Dennis.

God knows how I hate to feed into the frenzy but did anyone notice that Timmy “halleluia” Tebow threw for 316 yards yesterday? For an average of 31.6 yars per completion? Twilight Zone shit, folks. I’m sure if Tebow wins the Super Bowl in February, he’ll rise up from the field to the right hand of God, saying “I’m not going to Disneyland, I’m going to Heaven!!” Thus cheapening all religion, and specifically Christianity, as merely a hocus pocus magic show  based on hucksterism at it’s finest.

Either that, or Tom “ol’ devil breath” Brady throws for 666 yards, beats Tebow, and thusly the ground opens up to swallow him after the game.

As far as the games coming up are concerned, we’ll get to that later. It looks like I’m a glutton for punishment as the folks around here REALLY want to get into some sort of religious debate. Have at it. God know why I do this. It is getting beyond weird lately. I almost miss V’s regurgitated Eddie, Bill, and Joe rants. . .

Looks like everybody here picks the Niners over the Saints, so who other the Pack is better? All around means defense and special teams, too.Shit, maybe they’re the best. For over a decade, Clover 2% is my drink of choice, BTW. Maybe I shoud start juicing again, I’ve got several cases of David Bruce Pinot Noirs that need to be consumed. Or maybe I’ll ship them to someone.

” So another right wing wacko has been added to the roster. FYI: people like DTD and Phil ”

OK so either flying V or spitblood HAVE to be the culprit !

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Well, I’m not making racist jokes about black men who can’t spell simple words and complaining about Muslims having rights. Where the fuck are you coming from?

  3. robd's avatar robd says:

    TWIN

    my best guess is

    saints 21 49ers 17

  4. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Why tell me? It’s Chuck’s blog, he picks the Niners too.

The giants are really playing good football right now. They will have problem scoring on GB. I’m hoping for a Niners/GB NFC championship gm but I won’t be surprised if it’s NO/Giants— these are the best 4 teams in the NFC and all 4 do at least one thing very well. You could almost argue that at this pt in the season, the Giants are the most balanced (O/D) of any of the 4 teams

  7. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Well, the Giants have had one good rushing effort after being the worst in the league. But you’re right, these are 4 good teams.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The Giants will live and die with their pass rush.

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

So, this is the best college football has to offer? What a fricking joke.

    Oregon/Stanford would have been about 100x better than this . . .

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

And Mussberger to call it. Ah, for the days of Keith “That Dog Won’t Hunt” Jackson..

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

        “He’s only a soph-o-more . . .”

        That’s a fumbuuuuuuuuuul!!!”

Keith Jackson is God when it comes to college football . . . I barely remember him announcing Monday night football the 1st year it came to be . . .

  10. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

This is NOT a national championship game. These offenses are a freakin’ joke, AGAIN. The two quarterbacks would be laughed out of a CFL tryout. I swear, they gotta fix this BCS shit for 2014. It is TOTAL, unmitigated bullsheit. Oklahoma and Stanford or Oregon or even Boise State are not as good as these two horseshit teams? What an absolute joke…

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Beyond the fact that 2 teams from the same fucking conference shouldn’t make it . . .Fuck the SEC.

I’ve never seen so many missed passes since Steve Spurrier was playing for the Niners. . .

7:25 left in the game and LSU gets across the 50 for the first time.

And they are still in the game.

What a piece of shit of a joke of a debacle. If this game doesn’t get the BCS wonks in trouble, nothing will.

  12. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I am totally unconvinced that Alabama is worthy of national champion. LSU has played total suckage tonight. Does this say that Oregon, Stanford or OK St., to name a few, could not even freakin’ score a field goal against Alabama, not get into its territory until the 4th quarter? The LSU quarterback looks like he just got acquainted this week with the concept of forward pass. Absolute friggin joke…

Niners v Saints Scoring Predictions for Saturday’s game. In order received:

38-31 Niners phil “Muslims have no right to support or to incite violence in the US”
27-17 Niners twinfan “I insulted or abused Dennis 18 X on the last blog. Phil counted”
31-20 Niners chuck “If NO can keep Brees protected well… that’s where it can get ugly”

21-17 Saints robd “ok . now i KNOW i’m not the only one drinking tonight !”

I believe it was Nipper who won the Wild Card Prognostication Party Award with his HOU-NO-NY-PITTS call. 3-1

What was the first prize again Chuck? Denny buys him a beer?

  14. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

FhilFuck: and as long Death Threat continues to make racist “jokes”, “jokes ” that threaten the President, “jokes” that threaten Alex Smith, he will continue to be insulted, 18 times? Is that all? I’ll need to step it up..
And pay attention here- you never said what you quote yourself as saying- you attempted to claim that I don’t suppoat T-Blows right of free speech and bogusly infrerred that i support this hateful screed ( be careful, a 6 year old wrote the following)
“Prollem is islamist, gay, athiestic marxistist motherfuckers get a complete pass from ya’ll when assholes like, Chomsky, man hating feminists or one hundred hate spewing islamists dump their shit in FUCKING PUBLIC you sit on yer rather large goddamn asses saying notjhng”
No one here suppots violence from Muslims. atheists.or Chrisitians- but we do all support their right to espouse their beliefs in a non-violent manner. T-Blow also the right to proselytize and I have the right to wish that he’d shut his fucking mouth..
You need help, young man… you see, here, people who spew hate speech are often already jailed for acting on their hate. In your land hate speech like yours is common and you would also find a sympathetic ear among skinheads here. I’m sure have they websites that would please you..

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Alright already. Enough of this.

This isn’t a political blog. Let’s all try to keep it somewhere near football.

The Obama thing was on a different blog, Mike. It wasn’t on either of mine. Dennis hasn’t done much to provoke you lately, but you continue to hound him.

Phil? Criminy, tone it down some. No one here is hating on Tebow for being Christian. I disagree with some of the hype and bullshit he’s pulled, but hey, whatever. The frenzy building around him is way over the top. But that isn’t his fault. Yet, he COULD at least calm some of the firestorm by saying ‘ease up, folks. I’m a football player, not the savior.’ It took Tebow half the season to acknowledge he had teammates helping Denver win games. He’s young and foolish, but he’s learning. It took Elway most of the year to even back the guy. Why?

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Because Elway doesn’t believe it himself. There’s not any underlying motive behind Elway’s actions.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Bullshit.Leave me totally out of it. Phil stated back in. If you think this hate speech is OK for your site, go for it: “Prollem is islamist, gay, athiestic marxistist motherfuckers get a complete pass from ya’ll when assholes like, Chomsky, man hating feminists or one hundred hate spewing islamists dump their shit in FUCKING PUBLIC you sit on yer rather large goddamn asses saying notjhng”
I don’t give a shit where DTD made his threat on the President and neither should you. I fought for and will die for the rights that these scumballs enjoy. And I didn’t “hound” DTD until he started up again. Fuck him and his pyschotic hatred for Smith, that you tolerate because he’s mentally ill.
I’m always happy to discuss football- now we can get back if you can get a handle on your wackos.

Okay. leaving Football for just a second. over on the Chron(SFgate) this guys article has been posted before, but there are new people on your site Chuck so I thought I would post this. Best Guitarist list
    1. Jimi Hendrix
    2. Jimmy Page
    3. Keith Richards
    4. Eddie Van Halen
    5. Pete Townshend
    6. Muddy Waters
    7.Duane Allman
    Okay Gentleman have at it

  19. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

    My list
    1. Jimi Hendrix
    2. Keith Richards
    3. Eddie Van Halen
    4. B.B. King
    5. Chuck Berry
    6. Eric Clapton
    7. J J Cale

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

As long as Hendrix remains #1, the rest can fight for 2nd. The problem is, there are way too many great guitar players out there. Past and present. Link Wray should be in the top 20. John Lee Hooker, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Dick Dale, Carlos Santana, Curtis Mayfield, Neil Schon (his early work before Steve Perry is great), Dicky Betts, Eddie Hazel (check out Maggot Brain some time), Robby Krieger, Neil Young, Slash, Ted Nugent, Tony Iommi, Steve Vai, Randy Rhodes, David Gilmour, on and on.

Too many genres as well. Blues, rock, funk, alt, grunge, metal, speed metal, punk . . .

    • Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Yeah, but it is a good way to get people to listen to other music. With youtube and other venues it is easier to listen. I grew up in the 60’s before radio station told the DJ what they had to play. That is why I have, rock, Blues, country, everything on my Ipod.

    • snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

      Buddy Guy is up there.
Saw him and his crew once in the ’90s in a very small venue club in Houston. Out of sight. Best live musical, if not entertainment, show, I ever attended. Dude just hit it out of the park for two freekin straight hours of hard drivin’, jammin, slammin blues and funk. Awesome…

      • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I went to Buddy’s club in Chicago about 15 years ago. Just a bunch of young guys who were flat incredible, and Buddy himself came out to play at about 1:30. He played til 3:00. Killer killer stuff . . .

  21. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

I said last night — WTF NOT fire Jackson? I guess Mark Davis and McKenzie agreed. He wasn’t there long enough, nor established anything much while there, to make firing him difficult. New GMs always like to bring in their own guys — not that surprising. Hue’s big mouth surely didn’t help his case to stay. Not that I care much about the Raiders, but I might if they start acting like a real NFL team, with real management, with real goals and a real organizational ethic. This “bully” and wild ass, near criminal element penalty inciting BS is tired, and more to the point, has proven to not work…

  22. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

It might not have been a good game but no case can be made that anyone but Alabama should be number one.

  23. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

This is a line from an article on ESPN.
The Saints can say they’ve been here before, but they’ve also never won a postseason game away from home under Payton.

  24. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

In a lighter vein and about football: Even the Saints have limitations which hopefully will be exploited by our coaches with two weeks to prepare. Countering their pass rush/blitzing and deploying an effective one against Brees would seem to be key. Niners are going to try to hold the ball and keep it away from Saints offense as much as possible. I agree with those who say we gotta score 28+ points but I believe this is going to relatively high scoring on both sides, more like Pack v Lions weather permitting.

  25. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Unless the oddsmakers are totally ignoring the home and away splits for the teams, there’s no way the Saints should be favored. Even the one area where they would figure to have a big edge, QB, is actually about a push with the game here. I showed the numbers yesterday. I believe Brees has a 100 QBR 17 TD 8 INT on the road. Alex is 98 QBR 12 TD 3 INT here. I still give Brees the edge based on playoff experience but I don’t see any other edge for the Saints.
