Game Day – By the Time I Get to Phoenix . . .

She’ll be waiting . . .  Anyhow, this game is going to be a true test of the intestinal fortitude of your San Francisco 49ers. AZ is actually steadily improving lately. As NinerDog posted, their defense has become very stingy in recent games. The Niners have struggled in the red zone in recent games. As I said, I think getting Braylon Edwards is going to help, as the Niners HAVE to open things up some down close. Yes, the Niners should be able to win a defensive struggle against these guys, but they have a tough ST unit as well. Patrick Peterson has wn a couple gaems for AZ singlehandedly (relatively speaking), much like Ted Ginn’s opening day, and the Detroit game.

Interesting thing is the Niners and Raiders will be playing at the same time, so it’ll be fun to see if the Raiders can put a hurting on the Packers. Call me crazy, but I think the Raiders win this. The Packers defense is very questionable. 31st in total yards, but they do get a lot of turnovers by pick-offs. Palmer, if anything, can hit the deep pases, so if Oakland can block, they should be able to light up the scoreboard. They are also pretty good at geting pressure, so you never know.

I will watch the Raider game too, just to see what happened. You mentioned the GB defense but the Raiders defense isn’t any better. Could be a high scoring game but I haven’t checked the weather yet.
I’m still sticking to 19-16 Niners but that score could easily be flip flopped. I feel very nervous about this game.

Game’s in Oaktown, Flav. Not much different than Pali . . .

  3. bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

it’s in Green Bay, dude. Much different that Oaktown. What schedule you looking at?

  4. bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

Does the fact that you are now up to speed on the game’s location change your prediction at all?

Add geography to the subjects Chuck flunked in school. We already know he sucks at history. He can’t even get the correct date when the world is going to end. You think might wanna have that one right for the records.

On second thought, there won’t be any record books left. Fuck history!

Looks like my fantasy team is gonna be just like the Niners this year —
    one and done!

Even when he can’t play, Willis remains the heart and soul of this team —
he gave the team an emotional pregame pep talk.

Of course he’s on one of my FF teams. Speeches don’t garner me any pts.

This week’s scoring predictions VS Cards:

27-20 Niners Chuck “..AZ is a tough place to play, strong special teams, can score quickly”
22-13 Niners grumpyguy “close 1st half; Card mistakes in 2nd give us cheap TD. Aldon shines”
    23-13 Niners phil “3 FG in 1st half, 2 TD 2nd half”
20-10 Niners twinfan1 “Chuck is brilliant when he listens to me (wink)”
26-13 Niners NinerDog ““Go deep early to Edwards; KW has a big game; no suspensions!”
19-16 Niners Flavor (and Grant) “It’s a toss up; they’re playing well, we’re injured”
    27-13 Niners snarkk
    26-24 Niners barleyfreak ” we’ll give up 3 TD’s and a FG. We’ll score 2 TD’s and Akers (MVP!) will hit 4 FGs”
    27-10 Niners Kevin
20-10 Niners rob “we’re going to double up the retardinals”

This is the tightest grouping of scores we’ve had yet. barleyfreak, Flavor -and Chuck to some degree- are calling for a squeeker.

Right, Skippy. How’s yer 5-11 looking? How about you come up with something new?

I guess being proven wrong so often doesn’t bother you.

Shit, I assumed since we are on the road that Oakland was here. Esp with the 1:00 start. What’s up w/that? A 3:00 pm game in GB?

    • bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

No idea why they are starting late in GB but you made me look it up when you said I was wrong about the location. I was like, “huh? WTF is Chuck talking about?” lol

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Add math to your geography and history deficiencies…how many times do I have to remind you? I predicted 7-9.

Brady picked in the end zone. Washington with a chance.

  11. bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

I was really impressed with the article in the Chron about Blake Costanzo–great story about hard work paying off. And yet another *new* player on the team that wasn’t on the team last year. I get so tired of listening to out-of-town announcers blabbering on about how Harbaugh is doing all this with the same players he had last year. Total bullshit. There are explosive, impact players littering all three sides of the ball (O, D, ST) that weren’t on the team last year.

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hey, Oaktown can pull it off. 43º and a slight breeze. Might be a little colder by the end of the game.

  13. bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

No, they can’t. I don’t give a shit what the weather is like. Rogers is gonna pick them apart. They could also choose to run the ball through that shitty run D. Throw in a few Carson P picks and it looks like a route to me– 38-10, something like that……

  14. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The defensive backfield and ST saw the most changes. From Akers on down to Costanza. The rest of the team is pretty much identical. The biggest changes to me are the addition of Bruce Miller and Snyder getting the nod over Chilo at RG.

Brady and his OC nearly came to punches on the sideline.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Biggest changes on offense that is.

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I guess I better make my prediction before this thing starts…

27-17 Birds. Kolb goes Krazy on our secondary.

  17. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

NE just escaped by the hair of their chinny-chin-chin.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

60 yard punt, -2 return. Lee is pretty fricking important.

  19. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That’s a fumble, but they recovered. It will net us about 7 yds on the loss.
