Well, the Niners, in their race to secure a bye week for the upcoming playoff soiree, are looking for the New York Football Giants to slow down and beat the high flying New Orleans Saints. If NO wins, they’ll be one game behind the Niners in that pursuit of that coveted bye. The Saints have by no means an easy time of it the rest of the year. They still have this game tonight, Detroit, Atlanta, and a schitzophrenic Panther team to contend with.
If the Giants win, however, the Niners would have a 2 game lead on all the pursuers in the playoff chase. There would also be an astounding 6 teams with 7-4 records. The Cowboys, Giants, Lions, Bears, Saints, and Falcons would all be tied. Chicago owns the WC spot if tied with Detroit because of better winning %age of common teams. Atl also wins the WC spot over Detroit because of Atl beat Detroit. After that, it’s clear as mud. There are too many games left to really sift through the implications of all those teams. Well, at least it ain’t in my pay grade.

San Francisco 49ers Forever 
49er playoff note- the most serious challenger for the second best record and the bye are the Saints, as Chuckles notes. Since all Saints losses are to NFC teams, the 49ers have to lose 2 more games to lose the bye and that’s if the Saints win out. So they’re good shape to grab the bye and at least one playoff game at home. But first things first- a win against the Rams and they’re in.The record of the 2 WC teams is irrelevant to us getting the bye, BTW.
And I know I’m in the minority- but I just don’t see the BFD about Johnson’s tasteless celebration. And I definitely don’t see any of these celebration penalties to be worth the same yardage as an attempt to decapitate the QB. The refs should just throw a flag so the improper celebration can be handled with fines. 5 yard penalty, if any.
I LMAO with the Stevie celebration. Had to be the best I’ve seen, ever. Not to mention he beat Revis.

Well, the punishment is way overblown, yer right abut that, Like roughing/running into the kicker. The thing is, no one really knows what the rule is. No props, no sharpies, no bad taste? I mean really. The thing is, it’s pretty dumb to worry about what yer gonna do if you score a TD. It’s retarded to cost your team 25 yards for it. Dumber yet to have parameters for what is a penalty and what isn’t.
The Giants look like shit tonight. Dumb penalties, dropped passes all over the place.

NY is 24-32 in the second half of season under Coughlin. I’ve seen speculation that he burns them out, he’s said to quite the taskmaster. Of course, they also have Super Bowl rings..
It happens every year. And he was recently voted the coach most players would rather not play for.
For all their trouble, the Giants get Green Bay next weekend.

As far as tiebreakers go, the Niners have a 1.5 game lead on NO per their conference records (7-1 for SF to 6-3 for the Saints). Saints at home vs Detroit next week. Looks like Ndamukong Suh will be suspended for 2 games, so he’s out of this one. That’s too bad.
Suh is a douche.
Trouble is Czar Roger will likely lighten his wallet instead of sending down a multiple game suspension.
2 games would be my minimum but, Roger probably doesn’t want to hurt their Wild Card chances.
Suh needs to be humbled during this Playoff push by watching from the sideline too.
Giants have 2 left with the Cowpatties.
They are definitely on life support at this point.
2 things they’ve been known for, strong running and Defense, are way below normal for them.
They will be in for some major changes this off season if they miss the Playoffs.
Coughlin will be the 1st out the door.
