Game Day . . . Good, Bad, or Ugly?

Lots of differeing opinions about this Deetroit game. From we’ll get slaughtered, to a tough loss, to a victory. 5-0 Deetroit vs the 4-1 Niners. There are a lot of people out there that don’t believe in either team as being more than flashes in the pan. The winner will be the toast of the NFL. For a week, anyway. I happen to think the 49ers can get on these guys early as the Lions struggle to get going, as they usually do. The onus will be for the 49ers to keep the chains moving once a lead is established. If it is. Harbaugh showed what he could do last week by going aggressive early. The thing was, it was done with a lot of 2 TE/2 WR formations (and even a bunch of 3 TE formations), not the 4 WR sets I had been calling for (and expecting).

The nice thing about all this? Well, I dug the fact that the 2nd TD to VD came on one of the 3 TE sets. One the Niners had run out of the previous 4 times. Down and distance, or formation doesn’t dictate the play being called anymore. Harbaugh had TB completely off-balance the whole day. And TB’s defense isn’t taken lightly. My thought (OK, hope) is they can continue this style of play. I’d actually like to see more multi-WR sets. Get Swain in there. And run up the middle. Throw screens and delays. I think the Niners can use their aggressiveness against them. Should be a good game either way.

The Niners should have been wearing silver and black today…
This was a Just Win Baby Game…

    • Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

Never, I repeat never compare the Niners to the Raiders, thats like comparing the Giants to the A’s!! Just plain Wrong!

  2. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

It was a no brainer, IMO, but I still thought the refs were going to overturn Walker’s TD. It looked like that kind of day… This defense is making a name for themselves- any ideas?

  3. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Raiders just pulled off a great fake FG attempt. It pains me to say that…
But they lost Campbell to an injury. Fuck ’em anyway.

  4. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

49ers waxed the Bucs 48-3 last week. Today they’re up ten on the Saints.
    Welcome to the NFL…

I was wrong about how this game would play out. something came up and I missed the 4th q and for some reason, my dvr didn’t work. So I’ll have to watch the highlights at NFL.com
The only reason I ever hated the raiders was because of their fans and Al Davis. I know that sounds funny considering the argument I had with Twin last week. But that was a different issue all together, it had nothing to do with my long time dislike for watching him draft shitty players well ahead of the round they should have gone. Al had too much hubris, and after so many years that got old. But, I loved the relationship with his former players. 9 HOF inductions for him?
So now that Al’s gone, I seen to dislike the raiders 50% less. I’ve watched the last 2 games, they’re pretty entertaining. And how can you not dig the silver and black colors? Hands down one of the top 5 uni’s in any sport of all time…

  6. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Actually, I’ve liked the Raiders fine, player and coach-wise- since Kiffin left. He might have been the only guy who created sympathy for Al…hard to believe he ends up with the USC gig…
Well, I called a bit of this game- Frank up the gut being the most important. And they kept after Stafford- talk about misleading numbers- even CJ’s 7 catches didn’t really hurt them. Smith made some bad throws, but he never got flustered, even with the shitload of penalties… and made the clutch throw to ultimately win it- this was a tough win, nice way to go into the bye…

  7. Flavor's avatar Flavor says:

You absolutely called if and cane damn close to nailing the final score. I’m looking forward to seeing the highlights which I’ll get to a little later. I heard the post gm show on radio and harbaugh was saying he shook Schwartz’ hand too hard and there was a bruhaha? Legit or exaggerated?

  8. bigflavor's avatar Flavor says:

Saw that pussy shit at the end. Harbaugh looks like he over-celebrated and handshook and back slapped Schwartz a little too hard. It’s also possible he said something based off Schwartz’ initial reaction. Then, Schwartz just lost it, almost falling down attempting to catch up to JH..
Anyone know what that “pull-his-shirt out” thing Harbaugh is doing after wins is all about? He seems to do it with Alex Boone, of all people. I don’t get it….

  9. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Sorry, Denny- your boy had a nice day but it’s still about winning…
Schwartz is little over strung himself but Jim does need to tone it down a bit. It’s kinda funny because it seems so out of character, shit you’d expect from Singletary.

Great fucking game. A grind-it-out mofo of a game. Culliver did an outstanding job on CJ when they went single converage. They got very one-dimensional without CJ hitting home runs. I fugired the D could do what they did. I said sl all last week. The offense was a struggle. Suh was renderend pretty damn silent. Suh was less than Suh. Gore and Hunter pounded and grounded out some tough tough yards. The line, for all the false starts and shit, did exceptionally well. Smith came through when it truly mattered. Crabs was a pisser and a delight all day. Ginn was money on ST.

The D? Lights fucking OUT. They got after these guys mainly in their base D. They sprinkled in some key blitzes. Brook’s sack notably. Much like I thought they would. I called 28-20. Mike, 20-17. 25-19? I missed by 4 pts, Mike 7. NAILED IT!!!!

Poor Jim Schwartz. Can’t take a pat on the back? Boo hoo. I actually loved Harbaugh’s line. “I shook his hand too hard.” Petty oneupsmanship? You betcha. Hyuk hyuk hyuk.

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Miller had the key blocks on both the long runs a for Gore. Walker with the drop, Walker with the winning TD. Crazy shit today.

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Our 3rd ugly win, beats a 3rd pretty loss huh? Nice we can win these grind ’em out games instead of some bullcrap ‘moral victories’. Nice to hear Miller is doing good at fullback, maybe we can part ways with Moran N finally. Frank has to be happy with the way he is being used and the production he’s getting. Happy for him and Alex that we are 5-1. Keep working boys!

  12. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

All the ESPN guys are saying Harbaugh should apologize. Fuck that. For what? Being excited?

Phil Simms of all people stuck up for Harbaugh.

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

ESPN pussies just want the ‘East’ coast teams to win. It’s a sad day for them when shit like this happens. Gotta whine, piss and moan while blowing hard into their hankies. A real player Sims gets it. Jimbo was excited and pumping his guys up. People who never played except with themselves gotta throw a hissy fit. Fuck that.

My wife over here who’s never seen a football game before this season keeps saying “I really really like Harbaugh”

  13. Kevin's avatar Kevin says:

    Made Yahoo front page news

  14. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Schwartz says someone cursed him, too. I’d think one of the videos would catch that.

  15. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Watching the replay (my wife rewound it 15 times), Harbaugh yells “Yeah!” when he gets there. After the pat on the back, he says “Whooo!” After that, he might have said something, but it wasn’t readily evident.

Sour grapes, Schwartz. The Schwartz wasn’t with him today . . .

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Thank you for those pearls of wisdom, Yogurt. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go take Barf out for a walk.

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

My 49er MVP thus far? Vic Fangio. His defensive schemes are hands down the best I’ve seen the Niners run in years. And he has the defense doing all the basics tremendously. I haven’t seen tackling like this since the days of Skip(py) Vanderbundt and Dave Wilcox.

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

The secondary is playing about 10 times better than last year. The D line has always been solid. Aldon Smith is giving them a nice dimension in the pass rush. McDonald is truly blowing me away. I didn’t think he was the guy they said he was. The coaches saw something there. I thought losing AF would hurt. Soap is playing solid, and the pass rush D is even better.

  18. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Don’t be a homer, Chuck- Harbaugh admits he was wrong, and he was. No BFD, but he obviously needs to control his jubilation better than today

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Don’t be a homer? Look who’s talking, Mikey. [I hope you and others appreciated that last line. I know Bruce Willis would]

Don’t be a homer? If I didn’t know better I’d swear your last name was Simpson.

      • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

I don’t make excuses for poor behavior, DTD. Sorry about your boy blowing it again, BTW- just one first down at the end and they probably win-

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Don’t be a homo, Mike. If Schwartz can’t take a little what? A pat on the back? Then he’s a major league wimp. If Harbaugh screamed ‘fuck you, loser’ in his face, then sure, there’s reason to be upset.

Did Wyche castigate Walsh for skipping off field arm-in-arm with Roger Craig? Nope. You lose, you eat some humble pie.

Once again you have to make this more about you and your asinine viewpoints rather than the win.

  19. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Donovan McNabb looks totally uninterested in this game. He looks like he’d rather be sitting on a beach earning 20%. Just like Hans Gruber. Where’s John McClane when ya need ’em?

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Because I’m a wonderfuil man and this is so important to you, Chuck, I’m giving you the call even though you made two . And the season call is more important anyway.

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Chuck is getting his game face on twin cause he knows his 0-5 FF team is gonna have a death struggle with my 1-4 Crocs. Just trying to psych himself up that’s all.

  20. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

I’m not making a big deal about it all- just agreeing with Harbaugh..and I’m certainly enjoying the growing lead I have on the rabble for the season W-L..

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Jimbo supposedly said with a large helping of sarcasm and irony “I guess I shook his hand too hard”. Translation: ” He’s a wimp and a sore loser” Schwartz was outcoached and his players out-played at home. He’s only got himself to be angry at. Plus Harbaugh has this guy psyched just like Carroll
