Game Day – Philly Philly Philly

Don’t see much of a chance against Philly, unless there is constant pressure from the get-go, the 49ers force some early turnovers, and the are-we-not-so-sucky O line can figure out how to pass protect. And run block. These two teams have had some interesting games over the years. I read a wonderful thing in the paper in that before last week’s loss to the Giants, the Iggles hadn’t given up 4 TDs in the air since Joe Montana dropped 5 TDs on Philly in 1989. 4 of those TDs of course came in the 4th quarter. Then there was the beat-down that Philly laid on SF in 1994 (40-8?), where Young went ballistic when George Seifert pulled him out of the game. The players themselves said it was the turning point of the season, and the Niners won 10 in a row, and closed the season 13-1 and went on to win the Super Bowl.

Recent history hasn’t been so kind. In 2005, Tim Rattay was chased and harassed to the tune of a 42-3 beat-down. In 2006, the Eagles ruined one of Alex Smith’s best days when he went 27 for 46, 293 yards, and one TD en route to a 38-24 loss. The 2008 debacle was the death knell for Mike Nolan. Going into the 4th quarter with a 9 point lead, Gore at 98 yards on the ground, and possession of the ball, the Niners (and JT O’Fuckmeagain) fumbled and pick-sixed their way to a demoralizing 40-26 loss. Gore had 6 yards rushing on 3 attempts, with the LEAD. This prompted the Nolan firing a week later, and the throttling of the pass-happy Mike Martz by Mike Singletary. 2009? Well, a 3 pick day by Alex sealed that game, a 27-13 ho-hum loss. Last year’s game was another close-but-not-quite loss. Alex had his only 300 yard game in his career, going 25 for 39, and 309 yards. However, he skipped a screen pass off Gore for a pick, and gave Philly 6 points on a misguided attempt to salvage a broken play. He instead fumbled and Philly took it to the house. Another close comeback thwarted by the misfortunes of the Singletary-led 49ers.

I’m not expecting miracles. I am hoping for better line play, continued improvement by the secondary, and some consistent drives. If the Niners can keep it low-scoring, thaey have a chance. A track meet doesn’t bode well.

There’s your reason why Smith gets such a bad rap. Stupid plays like that. Basically giving the game away deep in our own territory.

And now we go short passes from the 20 with 40 seconds left.

Harbugh goes hutrry-up, lets 15 seconds go, and then now we call a time out to throw a 5 yard pass.

    Shoot me now.

I guess this means the comeback will all that much sweeter.

Another drop by Crab. Man we look bad. This is going about like Del, Chuck and the rest expected, damn

  3. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

It’s why couch potato morons get such a bad rap. Blaming the QB for every fuck up by the offense. Wet Brain Denny asked why we don’t throw deep.
    1.No time
    2. When’s the last time you saw a wide out beat a DB deep?
    Right- never.
There are going to be fumbles and/or ints when rushers come unmolested. The miracle is that Smith has had just two turnovers this year.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Wrong. Every fuck up? No. Protecting the ball on your own 18 yard line is pretty important, eh skippy? He dropped it before getting hit. He did the same thing last year fror a pick 6. Expecting the QB to protect the ball isn’t asking too much. Vick’s been hit more than Smith. Yet hasn’t fumbledHe can’t put it on the turf dwon there.

This isn’t last week or week 1. I don’t give a shit what he has or hasn’t done in other games. Here and now he has to protect the ball.

  4. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Shit, the defense is doing as well as it can. Despite the missed sacks. Hunter drops the screen. Alex drops the ball. Vick has thrown a pick and they’ve fumbled on the 3, yet we don’t take advantage.

Until this team can sustatin drives, this is what it’ll look like. Philly make huge mistakes, yet overcomes them. Any little problem kills our drives. Just about EVERY goddamn pass is a short one. As usual, there’s absolutely no downfield passes. The WRs are quiet. And the ones we throw do not generate yards after the catch. They are ALL outs or comebacks. He NEVER throws passes where he has to lead someone dwon the field. I think there was one to VD.

They have to get a TD on this opening drive, or this game is going to be a wipe-out.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

VD is the only receiver who gets behind the defense, EVER. He can throw deep if you want him throwing to the only guys open- the DBs..

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Even when he has the time, Alex doesn’t have the gumption to throw it deep.
        He’s a pussy.
        A pussy and a mook.

  5. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Good to see us trying to bring the leg-whip back.

    Can they recover from that?

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Dunno but Matt Williamson said 49ers are a team that cannot win if they turn the ball over, period. Right, or drop passes all over the place

  6. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

If we NEVER try it, teams don’t worry about it. Over throw the fucker by 10 yards. Just show that you can do it. Philly’s done it 5 times. 2 successfully. We haven’t shown it once. Ginn was supposed to be that guy. Williams even has the speed.

  7. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

3rd and 6 and Alex throws a 2 yd pass to Crabs.
    Check Down Charlie.

    • twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

Fuck you, troll. He has to have another option, he didn’t, as Mora noted.. And that was 4 down territory.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

“Troll,” Wet Brain,” “Death Threat Denny.” Does that make your day?
I get a good chuckle out of it. Go throw the ball to Zeke. Knowing you and your love for Alex, it’ll be intercepted by Mikey.

  8. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

    Stupid-that was 4 down territory.

  9. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    You’re OK with that? Whatever.

I’m not. Another penalty kills a drive. These guys just aren’t ready for prime time.

Akers is having a bad day.

  10. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The Puppy Killer has terrible throwing mechanics. He throws fucking sidearm.
Berger would have a field day ripping his ass…

  11. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

I thought the fucking bubble screen was a thing of the past. I’d rather see them try to go downfield than throw 1 yard passes on 3rd and 4.

  12. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Our pressure on the passer today is pretty good and hurts most any other team. Vick is too good at avoiding it and playing with it. He doesn’t get spooked. Always trying to make a play.

The Eagles aren’t bringing much heat on Alex but then they don’t have to. I don’t envy Twinfan his job today.

  13. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Short TE pass, run up the middle, inc.

  14. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

You people always want him going downfield to the Eagle DBs. Try watching the coverage when you can. And notice that even on the check downs he has rushers in his face. Dealing with a critique of the OL seems beyond your capabilities, so you put their deficiencies on the QB

  15. twinfan1's avatar twinfan1 says:

And THAT is on Hunter, that’s a fucking TD.

    • unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Right, Mike. Alex drops the ball going back to pass, and it isn’t his fault.

Hunter gets tackled in the open field on a 41 yard gain and it’s HIS fault there isn’t a TD.

Sometimes you are very funny. Unintentionally. Othertimes, you are just full of shit.

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

That was a nice play by Alex. See, I’m fair and balanced.
    Just like Bill O’Reilly.

  17. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shit. The only way we score is breaking a play like that.

  18. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

    A slant!!!!!

    About fucking time.

  19. NoFear49er's avatar NoFear49er says:

Alex looking pretty good there. Hope it’s not the fluke of the day.

  20. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

My point for about 4 fucking years now is the Niners have to run slants to beat this blitzing/pressure they constantly face. They rarely try it.

And, let me get this straight. Alex drops the ball going back to pass, and it isn’t his fault.

Hunter gets tackled in the open field on a 41 yard gain and it’s HIS fault there isn’t a TD.

Sometimes you are very funny. Unintentionally. Othertimes, you are just full of shit.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Chuck, where ya been man? It’s not his fault.

I’m sounding redundant now, but another great tackle by Bowman.
I guess it helps when you went to Linebacker U.
