Test # 2 for Jim Harbaugh – Winning on the Road

So, Harbaugh did in game one what it took Singletary 6 weeks to do last year, and that was win game one. Next on Harbaugh’s bucket list is to win on the road. Since last year’s Denver gasme was technically a home game (London? Right), Singletary didn’t win a road game til week 12 in AZ. Yes, Cincinnati is a bottom-feeder in the NFL, but home field is a pretty big equalizer. Just ask Dallas. They barely escaped an 0-2 start, while the Niners would have been included in the list of surprising 2-0 teams (Washington, Detroit, Buffalo, and Texas).  Anyhow, 1-1 is fine for now. However, if this team is going to be thought of as making progress, they need to beat the crappier teams in the league. And Cincinnati certainly falls into that realm. Gingerbread man Andy Dalton notwithstanding.

Raggedy Andy has put up decent numbers (37/56, 413  yds, 3 TDs 0 picks, 105 QBR) against a couple of bad defenses in Cleveland and Denver. He’s hitting a lot of underneath stuff (7.4 yds/completion), so this may not bode well for the 49ers. Dallas killed the Niners in the 4th quarter with underneath stuff after harassing Romo most of the day. Their pass pro is decent enough (5 sacks in 2 games) but one can hope we bring the pressure more than Cleve and Denver.

As far as our offense goes? I can’t even hazard a guess. The Niners played as good a 1st half as they could have offensively. They followed it up in the 2nd half with a strategy that let Dallas right back into the game.  one hopes that they’ll keep the offensive flow going throughoout the entire game on Sunday, and not try to force the run at all costs.

Another CB to watch tonight in ABC’s LSU/WV marquee matchup is the Tigers’ Morris Claiborne. Like Dennard, Claiborne played oppo of the “big name” last year. This time of course being Patrick Peterson. Morris more than held his own. He’s a little light in the loafers (180 lbs) but has tons of speed and mad covering “skillz.”

  2. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Yeah, I tried to watch some Dennard highlights and couldn’t find much. Doesn’t mean there aren’t any – just means I either couldn’t find ’em or Neb’s marketing team isn’t anywhere near the Niners’. What am I saying, Coke, Pepsi, Bud and all of Detroit don’t have the marketing power of the Niners.

I was never on Prince. I think that was Chuck. But Chuck knows about as much about drafting as Rob knows about women.

  3. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I think Navoro Bowman (note the spelling) could be the next John Taylor. Great player playing alongside a legend.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

You should worry less about “Navoro” Bowman, and more about your fantasy team. You’re a 24 pt dog according to the ESPN line. What gives? Ahhhh…starting Javon Ringer at RB. That’ll do it every time. Mook.

      • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

I have to sweat it out till Monday night. If Romo and Dez Bryant don’t play, I’m screwed. And just because I haven’t said it once all week…how bout dem Cowboys!

  4. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I want to go on record as saying I’m recommending William Costigan for the metal of merit. I’d also like to go on record as saying Brian Billick is the biggest moron to ever announce a football game. There’s a reason he’s in the booth, and like Jerry Glanville once said, “Not For Long.” I can’t listen to that fucker. Grump was also right…. Goodwin had a terrible game against Ratliff.

Regarding my fantasy football team, I’ve been playing too much PPR fantasy football. I don’t value the running back at all anymore, but then again, I am a man before my time. I got Foster and figured I could find a stud on the waiver wire. But when Foster goes down, and you don’t value the running back anymore, you start guys like Javon Ringer. To make matters worse, I dropped Tate for Ward. I am a mook. I did, however, find Daniel Thomas before you did to foil your Reggie Bush “on grass” will be a new man prediction. Talk about your fuckin’ mooks. You sniff glue?

  5. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Yeah, Tony Sparano dicked me and every other Bush owner (I hoped you enjoyed that) last week when he said it was gonna be 70/30 Reggie, then he pulled a George Costanza and went with an “opposite day.” Bastard. This RB by committee shit pisses me off to no end. At least I grabbed Helu to b/u Hightower in D.C. I’m sure “Shanny” will lead me in the wrong direction there as well…

  6. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

The FF Gods were with you last week Spit: my computer went down right as I was gonna grab J Finely TE who Chuck put on waivers. Chuck what the hell were you thinking?

  7. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Chuck never thinks when it comes to fantasy. Unless of course when he does his best Brad Hamilton thinking about Phoebe Cates coming out of the pool in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.”

Shit. Landry Jones has an NFL arm. WTF they growing there in that goddamn Okie state? First Bradford, now this clone.

  8. unca_chuck's avatar unca_chuck says:

Hey, I redid my whole team. Went one guy too far.

    I don’t pay enough attention to this stuff (obviously) . . .

    • phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

You mean you actually have a life? I got a life in retirement and even have time to have a fantasy football life. Not that I know what the hell I’m doing mind you

  9. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

I watched enough college football today to know there isn’t a first round qb worthy of playing for the San Francisco 49ers. No first round qb for us in 2012. Why? Because I’m a geneous, and I said so. The only kid out there I like doesn’t have the arm – Kellen Clemons. Qb is all about heart and leadership. Romo is a commercial. I can’t believe I’m about to write this, but if Smith keeps playing like he has – with heart – I may start rooting for him. Wouldn’t that just fuck up the planets. My toilet would flush without a swirl. My refrigerator would keep an even temp of 100 degrees, people would drive to work backwards and Rob would find bestiality gross. But seriously, the kid’s showing heart. I can foresee future blogs about Smith with me throwing in there….. “I knew if he just had good coaching he’d do okay…. just to fuckin’ drive Twinfan into the basement of the insane asylum with his hair on fire, screaming for mercy. But the kid’s showin’ some heart.

Anyway, enough of that foolishness. It’s all about Reiff and Kirkpatrick in the first. Reiff is my first choice, Kirkpatrick is my second …. unless this season our O line starts to show they can pass block. I’ve got that and pigs flying out of my ass at even money. The over/under on the number of pigs was set yesterday at 4 (there’s some big women over here in Humboldt). I can only let so many pig women crawl up my ass, so I’m going to put my lock of the season at “pigs to the under.” That leaves us with Reiff.

PhilFan – The FF Gods are trying to makeup for Foster’s hamstring stupidity by granting me Finley, but they are cruel. I dropped Gonzo for Finley only to see Zack Miller and Tavaris Jackson have about as much week 2 chemistry as Rob and any woman from anywhere. Even E-Harmony, Photoshop and videos of his squirrel waterskiing can’t create a scoring hookup there.

  10. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

Del where do you find the odds on the FF games on ESPN? Rather ask you than expend any effort.

Spit I sympathize with Rob: my previous wife (an honest to God woman…I think) I met on American Singles. Shoulda followed my gut and nixed it right away. Shoulda just let nature take it’s course like I did over here, good gal. Yeah the Humboldt women all have the munchies from all the good shit they be smokin’. Watch them pigs, jeez.

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Phil, look under the “Scoreboard” heading. It’s there along with a quick synopsis, box score and preview.

  11. phil fan's avatar phil fan says:

The game starts @ 1 AM over here so gonna either go to bed early or stay up late. Cheers, go 9ers!

  12. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Jerome Simpson is going to play today for the Bengals. You have 8 1/2 lbs of weed in your house? No problem. Suit up Sunday and go catch some balls.

I liked the NFL and Goodell better when they were Fascists.

  13. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Niner inactives: QB Tolzien, WR Edwards, FB Norris, OL Kilgore, OL Person, NG Williams, DT Dobbs.

I think Rob has everyone of those guys on his fantasy team.

  14. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

Four things came to me in a dream last night:

1.) The Niners will win by 3 touchdowns today.
2.) Montario Hardesty will make the Browns forget their 0-2 start.
3.) Dre Kirkpatrick is a top ten pick in next year’s draft and there’s no way the Niners will be in position to draft him. ESPN’s college draft big board is fuckin’ wack. Dre Kirk is the best corner in the nation.
4.) Steve Spagnuolo will be the Niners’ D coordinator in two years. Harbaugh better be nice to him before and after football games.

  15. Spitblood's avatar Spitblood says:

well you’re a breath of fresh dog manure

    • Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

Not only do I start Cowboys on my team, I just p/u that Raider WR, Denarius Moore and inserted him into my lineup as well.

I think I know how Anakin Skywalker felt when he turned into Darth Vader.

  16. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

We won the coin toss and defer to the second half.

More confidence in our offense. And in particular, our QB.

  17. Del Mar Dennis's avatar Del Mar Dennis says:

The ginger is carving up our secondary…

  18. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Yeah. Dalton looks like the real deal.

  19. grumpyguy's avatar grumpyguy says:

Jesus Christ… has this kid been anything but dead on target yet?

Spit… it was all a dream. Fuck us.

  20. tyler lee's avatar tyler lee says:

Dalton looks amazing. Or…… our secondary is awful. How the league didn’t see Dalton was a top fifteen pick in the first round is beyond me. Fuckin’ mooks.
