Let the Sleeping Dogs Die ! ! !
The Brew Crew so far is obliterating the Dodgers pitching while their pitching has shut down the Dodger attack. Not really watching, but hey seeing that 6-2 score yesterday in the top of the 9th was very nifty. Patrick Bailey is apparently putting his stamp on the Guardicles team as he cranks up the power. Yes, it’l disappear like a mirage soon, but hey, ride it while it lasts.
Brewers and Guardicles would be a cool series.
Go Milwaukee! Fuck the Dodgers.
Seemed not too long ago, the infield looked set for the foreseeable future, while the outfield has long been a problem (one that adding Bader certainly didn’t fix). Now it looks the opposite with some promising young fast OFers, though still could use a true power bat out there, and it’s the infield that’s shaky (I don’t think anyone has missed Chappie or Adames, yet they’ll be back……). Not as high on the youngsters trying out in the infield now as I am on the OFers, but we’ll see. Hill and Cox look good, but Furman and Whitcomb et al, not so much. And still not crazy about Koss. It will be interesting to see what happens with Arraez at the end of the season; his decisions might hinge on how far Phils go in post season….
And of course we’re all correct in saying that the pitching should be the main focus this off season….
Same IF as last year but with Eldridge and Devers 1B/DH would be mlb ready. Re- sign Arraez? Dream on but why not. Chapman and Adames will be better when healthy. Right? Might as well get used to it. And if 2021 taught us anything it’s that platooning OFs can work. Pitching though….
And we shouldn’t forget Casey Schmitt.
We didn’t. That’s why Chappedass needs to go. He done.
fantasy baseball.
Personally, I’m counting on Schmitt being the every day 3rd bagger. They need to figure out Chapman. Casey is a 3rd baseman, he shouldn’t be slotted at 2B just because they don’t have anyone better. Maybe Jonah Cox can play 2B. As mentioned here, Schmitt with Eldridge and Rafi is a solid block in the lineup.
And now it’s solid
Solid as a rock
That’s what this team is
The pitching’s still shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot, shot
Damn, now I have that song stuck in my brain… stuck stuck stuck stuck stuck..
speaking of the off season. This guy is prolix (real info starts about half way thru the article) and despite his protestations an ownership shill, but almost accidentally his rambling covers some interesting stuff.

Fuck twitter
I thought he had balanced column on 2 sides of labor negotiations in TA. As he said a salary floor for bottom spending teams would benefit a lot of players while cap only applies to top end. Other major sports operate with cap/floor system; limiting deferrals and spreading TV/RSN $$ around everywhere also good idea I thought as was making adjustment so 5 year players could get to arb/FA market sooner.
interesting details in the aggregate. He makes it sound as though the owners have come up with a lot of enticing elements to make the floor/cap palatable. Some of it smacks of divide to conquer, doesn’t it? Pit the young guys against the older guys closer to big deals? Also, I don’t trust bowden’s selection of elements. The huge payroll teams are popular money makers. Grandfathering clauses seem inevitable. His presentation seems a bit too pat.
“The union should focus on negotiating the floor, cap and amount of revenue that is shared ….”
Management inveigling. He ignores the nature of that odd “labor” union, its demographics and seniority power structure.
Yay, they won’t lose 100!
Taking 4 of 5 so far vs. Cards has pretty much ended Cards shot at WC too. 7.5 behind Padres with only 10 left. Tidwell did eventually settle down, good sign.
Man lot of noise about Mets fans cheering Alonso HR for O’s in his return to Shea. wild
Nice story in mlb.com about Mo’ne Davis ties to Bandura and family, as former LLWS teammates. She was nearby for WPBL team game in Illinois and showed up at park to cheer him on.
I’ve basically stopped paying muh attention to the Giants. I did, however, check last night’s highlights. This team with it’s new guys and no-names is way more interesting than the one with Chapman and Adumbass. I hope they find a way to chuck those two in the offseason. I see both of them as albatrosses and hindrances to team advancement, certainly in payroll but more importantly in team chemistry and energy. Lose them in the offseason.
As I mentioned almost the first game or two I saw the kid play, Turner Hill looks like a player. Smart, heady, good fundamentals. A keeper, IMO for an outfield backup. Cox keeps proving why he was a great promotion out of AA, the kid is a speed burner, adds a dimension to the team that is sorely sorely needed. Keep him. The other guys they keep bringing up, I think it’s good they are doing it to get a bead on who can play.
Eldridge’s development into a very good player at age 21 is the key positive of this lost season. He’s a foundation to the next decade of the team. That said, why did Tony V put him on the back end of a double steal with 2 down in the first today? Only to get thrown out to end the frame. Cox is so fast he doesn’t need to steal third. Eldridge is as fast as a backhoe and gets gunned down easily by a smart catcher. Another weird move by Tony V and his dipstick coaching support. If Buster keeps Tony V, the entire coaching staff except maybe Ron Washington needs to be ridden out on a rail.
Anyway, I’m done with the season. Catch you Flappers next season, maybe.
good points. Hill had some nice plays on balls hit over his head last night in LF, and can hit. Cox has to be everyday CF and lead off hitter. If Giants can’t or won’t trade Lee, see what they can get for Gilbert. there are plenty of other LH OFs in system.
Gilbert has managed to bump up his trade value. Agree Cox is better. And there’s a fleet of fleet OFs in the system. Mediocrity at catcher is fact we’ll have to live with, apparently. And SS and 2B are questions, although it’s hard to imagine Buster dumping Adames. Koss’s arm is unpredictable, but often, as earlier today, it sucks. He’s not a good option.
tomorrows an off day. wtf don’t they have several pen guys ready to take over from smith?
Gilbert!
Just got ahold of new Colson Whitehead, “Cool Machine.” wow he’s so engaging right from page one.
he’s a master. Although as with James McBride sometimes the entertaining voice carries the thin parts.
Series win. I thought for sure that last stiff of a reliever was gonna blow it.
yep, he was suckin’ wind.
Yep. Dude was running on fumes. Don;t even know who that was.
New thread.
Oh wait. they are all here anyway.
My daughter left Nickel Boys at my house a couple years ago.
Haven’t picked it up. Good? Looking for something to read so I’ll check it out.
now that one doesn’t get thin.
Cool. Thanks. Just have to find it now. I finally did a purge of the thousands of books I’ve been lugging around for the past 50 years last year. Still have a bunch but down about 2/3.
In case you didn’t hear, they scratched Webbie and IRed him.
No Eldridge tonight either. ?
due to a “head laceration”? wtf?
say what? Between the Giants and the 49ers nothing really surprises me anymore.
20 career HRs for Lee now. He’s closing on Knizner’s 21.
Logan Webb is done for the season put on IR with a blister on his right hand( they had to come up with something lol) and now he said will be soul searching after this weird season..
Probably hook up with Aaron Rodgers eventually and do the whole cave experience, meditation, incense, steam water, cleanse your soul chi and make next season worth watching again for all of us!!
Eldridge scratched from the lineup with a head scratch.
Buster apparently said that this off season, the team will have to add “1 or 2” relievers. I think he meant to say “we might keep just 1 or 2” of the current relievers. I hope that’s what he meant to say….
Well, Li’l Abner’s out.
4 home runs off Abner? V is saving the pen for what????
This is flat ridiculous.
has Li’l Abner set a new record of some sort? Back to back twice in one inning?
cut rate AI (probably not trained on tonight’s events yet) says:
No Giants pitcher has ever given up back-to-back home runs twice in one inning, though the San Francisco Giants batters famously accomplished the reverse feat of hitting back-to-back home runs twice in a single inning against the Chicago White Sox/Michael Kopech in April 2023. [1]
Bill Gullickson gave up 3 home runs in 157 innings for the Expos in 1981.
Braves’ Maddox 4 in 202 innings pitched in 1994.
Tyler Rogers 1 HR in 67 IP this year.
Rogers has been good, but looks like ABS has upped his BBs.
After they traded Rogers last year, wasn’t the buzz that they would re-sign him after the season? I don’t remember why that didn’t happen. I don’t remember hearing anything about the team even talking with him. Man, did they screw up the bullpen this season, one of the worst I’ve ever seen.
I really though so too. The guy, for all the fan angst, was good enough.
I mean, he’d be the best guy they have now.
what kind of macabre joke was that, bringing Abner in to pitch again?
I guess it’s no worse than playing Koss at SS.
