In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Why is this country so obsessed with round numbers?
Especially 100 and especially in sports statistics – WHY??? Is 100 RBIs that much better than 99? Is 100 losses that much worse than 99?
Here’s one for the round number crazies: Dennis Martinez finished his career one out shy of 4,000 innings pitched…
In his 8 year career (1337 ABs) Mario Mendoza hit .215. In 4 of those years he hit higher than .200. In 1980 .245/.286/.310. 1981 with Texas (last season of more than 50 ABs) .231/.254/.266.
For each of 3 teams he played with he wound up with career BA over .200.
and yet Mendoza line remains to this day.
At least they understand 94 RBI is better than 90.
Speaking of Mendoza line, going into today B/R had Lee hitting .198 over last 28 games, 17-96 with 1 double (before called 3rd strike he just took, challenged and lost). His splits for season show .800 OPS on road/.677 at home.

as far as numbers go, the Giants have only lost 100 once so yeah that’s kind of a big deal.

Column on mlb.com site notes 10 players traded at deadline who have had positive impact for teams that acquired them. 3 of them are Giants–Mahle (ranked #1 ahead of Skubal on this list) Miller and Ray. In each case new team has adjusted pitch mix etc. and they are thriving. In case of Miller he was actually doing well before he got traded but since then he has only walked 3 and K’d 20 for BoSox.
Giants had all of above for 4 months. Month with another team’s coaching staff and they’ve figured out stuff to be new and improved. arrgghh
Doval lol. Still in love with slider though he can bring 100 heat. Used to shake Bailey off all the time to do this, and it bit him again yesterday. Eldridge drove an outside one to LF for rbi double to give Giants the lead, then skinny contact hitting rook Turner Hill (!) smacked one deep enough to RF for sac fly that scored Devers with all important insurance run.
Devers stepping up in other ways too, talking to young hitters and praising Eldridge for how tough he’s been hitting behind him in lineup. Good stuff.
