Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

In fairness to Webb, there’s a “severe heat advisory” in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Also, Webb’s been going deep into each game going back at least a half dozen starts, if not more. Today, he hit a wall it seems. Disaster of an inning (12 hits I think . . . all singles).
Yes it’s hotter in Pitt than it was in Atlanta I believe. Webb seems burnt to me. He’s already at 150 innings and having his worst overall season by some metrics, ERA FIP K/BB rate. He had game like this vs. Boston 2 starts ago. Started season early in WBC…why bother? Put him on IL for 15 days and see how he feels is what I hope they do.
Zero command tonight, couldn’t put ball where he wanted to. He couldn’t get the #9 Davis, batting .165 on season, out. Not himself.

Horrible drafts under Farhan? That extreme judgment seems premature. Harrison, Eldridge, and Schmitt aren’t long term successes yet, but they look pretty good right now. Devers is here because of Harrison and Tibbs. On average, over a 5-year period, a typical draft for any team will produce about 7 players who last at least 5 years. Bailey was a disappointment, but he’s been ok for Cleveland and will almost certainly stick around for a few more years.

He drafted Eldridge. Other guys traded by a different regime? Sure. Hang your hat on that huge success. Bailey was a failure based on where he was picked. He’s a defensive catcher at best.
Signing players to one-0year deals was a ludicrous strategy that set up the revolving door for most of his tenure.
The point is simply that his drafting wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, at least based on what we’ve seen so far. If Harrison and Eldridge become multi-year all-stars, it’ll look a little better than ordinary. I’m betting Harrison’s arm problems are going to limit him. Most players debut at age 24-25, so we’ll see if anybody else drafted as an 18-21 year old emerges. It’s only 2026.

Posey offseason moves were $20 million for Bader because he needed CF in order to move Lee to RF. He spent $20 million on Houser for 2 years, $10 million on Mahle for 1., $12 million on Arraez. $60 million total.
Framber Valdez, Dylan Cease, and either Robert (set up reliever $45 million 3years by Braves) or Ranger Suarez were signed to 3 years and up deals of over $130 million. Framber got an opt out, Cease got $200 million from Jays. Maybe none of above were interested in playing for Giants vs. other contenders but I don’t think Posey was going to go that route to begin with. Braves closer Raisel Iglesias was FA who re upped with them 1 year $16 million.
Just my NSHO but zero evidence the Board of ownership put kibosh on Posey/Minasian going after any of them. He did what he did, spent what he did, and results speak for themselves in current standings.
Best he could do at deadline was for A ball pitching prospects. One of whom came back in Robbie Ray trade, who was great acquisition and total steal by Zaidi from M’s January 2024.
I guess the overarching strategy, which has proven to be fruitless over the past 14 years is to just ignore the pitching staff and fill it with guys trying to rehab their careers.
We’ve done it for countless guys. Sure Cueto and Smarjgjerlfkj were poor to awful, but the guys that have passed through could fill a rotation and a half easily.
I mean I wasn’t super keen on keeping Rogers, but since the plan was to just not bother with signing anyone worth a damn to replace him, they prolly shoulda kept him.
