Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

This so reminds me of the 49ers during the 00s when they were horrible. No direction and non-caring ownership. This could very well be a dark time for the next 4 years. Not sure how they get out of this mess.
Indeed, could take years. But then again: 1996, last place in the NL West. Sabean comes in, and presto, 1997, division winners and “relevant” and in contention again for more than a handful of years. It can be done quickly with the right move or three…. maybe.

MCC says recently promoted OFs Davidson (and Harber who also plays 3b) off to good start with Sac, and OF Scott Bandura is hitting well after slow start. Davidson has not been playing CF; speculation is once Bader (ever) returns to ML roster he will be in CF and corner spots will be open for younger guys, especially if Ramos and/or Lee are moved (for pitching hopefully if so). Haven’t heard anything about Bericoto since he got hurt but don’t think he’s even on rehab ABs yet.
This is where they are now: once Arraez is traded Schmitt has permanent spot with Chapman back at 3b maybe this weekend. C and OF only spots to play around with until they add more pitching. Tidwell not doing that well in Sac starts due to lot of walks. Not like Giants don’t already have enough guys like that.
Really with they’d just jettison Chappie. At least Adames hits for power occasionally.
Hey thanks for that link to ’84 team, yikes. One of the more fascinating players though was Renie Martin. Never amounted to much as a pitcher but boy he could really hit. 3 years with Giants he was 25-81, good for .309 BA.

Agree, Charlie, Chapman should be the one jettisoned so Schmitt can play 3rd, his “natural” or best position. His arm is wasted at 2nd base and from what I can remember, he didn’t exactly look even near as good as Arraez at that position. And I’m still holding out hope they keep Arraez, though I certainly understand the rationale of moving him. I also don’t mind Adames, who I know most here seem to hate (how many SS’s hit 30 HRs a season? I can tolerate his other shenanigans for that). Also they should trade any OFer but not Lee. That said, if they can get good pitching for any of these guys, they gotta go for it….

Got the best years out of Jason Schmidt in that fleece job against Pirates So going to the Dogpile and getting zip out of him due to injuries was satisfying ( though I loved Schmidt that’s baseball)! And they end up getting Vogy back later and he was solid too!

Seem to remember after Sabes signed Affeldt, certain media talking heads couldn’t understand why a team would give a reliever a long term contract (long for relievers, anyway). Giants owe those 3 rings in great part to that bullpen, probably Sabean’s most significant achievement.
