! ! ! ! Can’t get any lower. Still I feel I’m sinking ! ! ! !

Outshined by Chris Cornell and Soundgarden. The theme song for your SF Giants 2026 team.

In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.

Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.

Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.

I guess the lockout is a blessing.

For Dolly . . .

A couple of years ago, we had an excellent lunch of seared tuna in Ceuta. Nice out door table near the water with views of the Atlas Mountains in the far distance. It would have been disturbing to have several thousand peasants swim ashore in the middle of our meal.

Interesting discussion below from MLB.com on Ramos as a trade target.

    Heliot Ramos, LF, Giants

Ramos is one of the greatest positive-regression candidates likely available. His expected metrics remain excellent despite modest production, and Oracle Park has historically suppressed his offense. A contender acquiring him isn’t just buying a league-average outfielder (103 wRC+) — it’s buying the possibility that his production catches up to his quality of contact.

Ramos sits at the 91st percentile in barrel rate (14.4%). His average exit velocity is 92.3 mph (90th percentile) and his expected slugging percentage (83rd percentile — .470) is also excellent. While he’s missed time with injury, too, his actual stats fall far short of what we would expect based upon his underlying ability. He’s homered just nine times in 289 plate appearances and is slugging a pedestrian .436.

He’s also been somewhat unlucky in his environment. Ramos owns a 110 career wRC+ on the road compared to 103 at Oracle Park. That is extremely unusual, as most hitters benefit from a friendlier strike zone, and familiar hitting environments, at their home ballparks. (That’s in addition to new-age benefits, like teams having access to Trajekt hitting machines at home.)

But for Ramos, there’s been no such home-field advantage. It suggests that he could really benefit from a change of scenery. He also isn’t due to become a free agent until after the 2029 season.

I suppose in this new era of tenth of an inch abs calls the infinitesimal bump of an ump’s unconscious bias for the home team (crowd noise works!) is an inevitable factor to consider. More important you’d think would be the fact that Ramos is arb eligible now. Not dispositive, of course, but certainly part of the package. As is his not quite expunged habit of lobbing the ball back to the IF after a single to LF. But Buster has to trade him now. I bet he’ll never be worth more.

Weird, I found out about the tiny piece of Spanish territory next to Morocco last night watching something. Then you mention it today.

    • James's avatar James says:

It’s a relatively obscure geographical holdover, somewhat like Kaliningrad. It just made the news with that crazy onslaught of Moroccan migrants. We wound up there because I was dissuaded from taking a boat from Spain to Tangiers, loosely described as the Tijuana of Africa. An easier way to set foot in Africa is to take the ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar to Ceuta. We sailed right past the Rock across the Straits to the Barbary Coast with one of the Pillars of Hercules right over there. And then the aforementioned Atlas Mountains. One day trip, incredible bang for your buck.

      • xoot's avatar xoot says:

that’s right where the famous pod of orcas attacks sailboats now, isn’t it?

      • James's avatar James says:

Yeah, that’s the general vicinity. It’s also near where a huge percentage of Japan’s blue fin tuna comes from. Many decades ago they discovered that the tuna there is as good as it gets, and started buying it all up. They basically changed a fishing tradition that goes back to the Phoenicians. We stayed in Cadiz for several days. One of the most incredible fish markets in Europe.

The team stinks, but shouldn’t be this bad. Vitello’s gotta go ASAP…

I think you got somethin’ against Italians!

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Agreed but man giants already on hook for $10 mil contract with him plus $3 mil they paid Vols for buyout. And they’re still paying Melvin after Posey extended him. That’s lot of dinero for manager.

  5. snarkk's avatar snarkk says:

Bochy couldn’t squeeze much better results out of this horrendous Pen. With the core 4, I could have put them into the game in the late, leverage innings and looked like a genius.

Buster gave Vitello a bad bunch of arms. Roles? If nobody down there can get guys out, what difference is it whether a particular guy gets hammered in the 6th or the 8th? Bofuckie for example, his role was to get hammered every time he came in.

Maybe Miller is finally making a bid to be the closer — he’s been pretty OK the last couple of outings.

BTW, I agree with Chuck’s lede — I’ll believe all these supposed great prospects at A and AA ball are actually great when they prove it as major leaguers. Until then, their greatness is just a rumor…

Giants got behind early, and looked like they checked out. When they are bad, they are really bad.

Whisenhunt has been around SF and AAA now for a couple of years. He’s not very good. A #5 at best on a good staff. If that changeup isn’t sharp, or the oppo is onto it, he’s pretty much going to get hit pretty hard. He needs about 2-3 more mph on the fastball, but that ain’t happening…

    • willedav's avatar willedav says:

Miller on radio was on him pretty hard as Padres (who are worse at scoring runs than giants in NL) hammered his fastball. Faced 20 batters/11 got on base.

Idk how Posey fixes pitching staff via trades/off season. You got Webb Roupp and nothing.

  10. xoot's avatar xoot says:

I think this is the weird ass term in the basic mlb contract the Giants are invoking vs Bader. Is scooting a sport? (There’s one other term that vaguely requires him to maintain first class physical condition.)

    “Other Sports

“5.(b) The Player and the Club recognize and agree that the Player’s participation in certain other sports may impair or destroy his ability and skill as a baseball player. Accordingly, the Player agrees that he will not engage in professional boxing or wrestling; and that, except with the written consent of the Club, he will not engage in skiing, auto racing, motorcycle racing, sky diving, or in any game or exhibition of football, soccer, professional league basketball, ice hockey or other sport involving a substantial risk of personal injury.”

Bader is just a scam artist drunk that screwed the Giants out of 20 M ( hopefully voided now!) what fucking idiot but a true alcoholic goes bar to bar till closing times to get his Skink On ,takes his scooter hits a pot hole then a fire truck that somehow runs over his already jacked up left foot and who was scheduled to have it checked out ( MRI= Mentally Retarded Individual) the next day?

Yeah he’s played his last game ever being a total bust for the Giants, just another learning curve for Posey to bring in reliable talent he failed at in the offseason..

Doval to the Pirates I hear…

  13. James's avatar James says:

Speaking of the Pirates, it looks like Skenes is getting ready to join Kerry Wood, Stephen Strasburg, Matt Harvey etc in the list of “Ace for the Next 10 Years” flameouts.

    • djloo27's avatar djloo27 says:

      Bet he’d gladly sign for Strasburg’s career…

      • James's avatar James says:

I’ll admit this was one of the few posts of this kind where I didn’t check the stats first. I remember his injuries being more disruptive than they were. Wood also wound up hanging around a while as a bullpen guy. Would Skenes at age 24 with a currently declining fastball settle for Strasburg numbers if the devil guaranteed them or take his chances on reaching Kershaw or Verlander greatness/longevity?

      • djloo27's avatar djloo27 says:

Yes, cause he’ll still make a quarter to a half billion before it’s all over…
