In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.
Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Said it before but idea that the Giants would send back mucho dinero for guy to not play for them (as in Big 3), while they refused to pay for quality pitching this past off season for FAs that would play for them for years, is loony tunes.
Especially since they will still have to pay to acquire more quality pitching in first place in order to compete (if that is the goal and I do think Posey still believes in that). No one is trading away top level controllable young pitching prospects for rentals like Ray and Arraez. Might get something for Ramos as there isn’t a lot of RH OFs on market, but we’ll see. Giants don’t have guys bringing back the proverbial “haul of prospects.”
The article suggests that attendance will survive a year or two of a 100 loss team comprising mostly young players. I think it’s understood that there won’t be any great haul of top prospects, no matter who the Giants trade. Webb might be the exception, and it probably wouldn’t be for a “haul.” The open question is, as you say, what does Posey want to do? I continue to believe that the wider ownership group’s role in delimiting what can and can’t happen is overstated.
Speaking of Broken Hearted it has to be the RedSox’s who recently traded for infielder Curtis Mead and in only his 2nd AB got HBO and broke his left wrist!
This could open up a trade with Giants for Arreaz ( still don’t want to move him but maybe as a rental he could resign next year cause he’s tight with Washington) Sox’s have a couple nice pitching prospects like Mullins&Wehut? Yeah they have to add more like Ray whatever so what?
Lots of chatter about Ramos who’s stock is rising as a power hitting RH bat that playoff contenders are looking for..

He’d have fit right in on that 2021 team, a lesser, but younger Darin (If you say it fast, sounds like “Dandruff”) Ruf. Even in Ramos’s AS season, his splits were not very good, unlike Ruf’s in 21.

I’ve mentioned the underperforming of the OPS, but have paid less attention to the pitching side. When Paul says “This team can’t be that bad,” the analytics he has little use for strongly back him up. I wonder how neo-Sabes Buster reacts when the quants he banished from the clubhouse point this out to him and if it will affect his decisions.

I see comments across Giants blogosphere from some who think they aren’t necessarily all that far away. I think it’s funny that Padres, who have been definition of up and down, are 55-53 and right in middle of WC mix…along with half dozen other teams no more than 3 games out of last WC spot with 50+ games to go.
And it wouldn’t surprise me that’s where Posey’s head is either. A few Ws vs. DBax, Royals, Mets catching Yanks Rays Marlins Phils at wrong time yada yada.
Maybe it’s because I’m now an old man, but whenever I hear talk of building for a brand new “future” and “he’ll be our anchor at ____ for the next decade!” it just don’t mean a whole lot. It seems like there are more highly talented players like Riley, Acuna, Tatis etc. than there are consistent players like Harper, Freeman. And then there’s the likes of Betts and Trea Turner, who should still be burning bright . . . .
Bader’s self inflicted injury — a sort of drunken frat boy style fuckup — may offer the Giants an opportunity. If he’s insured, cutting him loose may not be too expensive. Anyone know how those insurance deals work?
You’re the lawyer. I have no clue. The Kent fuckup didn’t directly lead to the Giants not re-signing him, but it didn’t help. The Giants didn’t even press him on it or cut his salary. Did he even miss any games?
He and Bonds had their fight n the dug out the next season. I think that played a bigger part,
his 10 million salary may not be big enough to justify a hedge, but if he were insured not only would it cover a lot of this year’s waste it should stretch into next year if he’s not ready to go. I guess it’s the interplay between coverage and a decision not to put a guy back on the active roster that I’m getting at. Need to see the contract to figure that out.

Ray’s development of new pitches worked a wonder. Can’t get by on a mid 90s four seamer anymore.
