Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Looks like Giants will now be 1-50 in games they trail after 6. That is amazingly bad. McCray, Ramos, Lee?? Gawd, what an insipid OF.

Brewers seem to be scoring as if they are sheepishly shrugging their shoulders, it’s so easy. They’ve scored in 5 of 8 innings so far.
I’m totally up for a massive trade spree, bring AA and AAA players up and see what they can do. If it stinks, so what? This so far, doesn’t? Koss, gone on 3 pitches. Does this team care? Do they even think about what they are doing at bat, in the field, on the basepaths? Clearly one of the worst Giants teams in SF history, and that’s saying something ….

Most annoying aspect of tonight’s game is how much better Henderson’s change up plays off 92 -94 than Whisenhunt’s does. A lot of whiffs for the latter the other night, but he just doesn’t look to me like he’s ever going to befuddle hitters like this dude tonight.

I stopped listening becz he obsessed over the effective fastball so much, comparing it to Yusmeiro’s at one point. Even Eldridge’s strikeouts didn’t prompt him to expatiate on the change. The guy threw something like 40 pitches in the first inning.
Giants are a joke team. Completely overmatched by the Brewers.

There aren’t that many decent RH OFs available so Ramos might bring back decent pitching prospect Ray and Arraez won’t. Might be interesting to see more of young OFs, though Davidson might be better off in Sac. Once Arraez is gone there will be another hole in IF as well.

My explanation isn’t really different from anyone else’s: everything went right, including stuff that wasn’t planned for or expected, namely the brief but glorious renaissance of the 3 B’s. I just think the idea of purposely leaning on an entire roster of imperfect players – the laundry – gets irrationally dismissed as unsustainable, flukey etc. Having a team of name veterans has a much longer and deeper track record of failure. See 2026 Giants.
Leading the NL in HRs with 201, at Oracle no less, didn’t hurt.
21 was still throttled by the pandemic. All of mlb bounced back in 22 and 23 and total attendance has ridden high since. Corporate voracity creates a lot of our reality.
the biz plan isn’t public obviously but some of its major moves are: reducing the number of minor league teams from 160 to 120 (pandemic shutdown might’ve illumined the way there); and rule changes. I’m sure broadcast machinations more obscure than between-pitch ads entered into the remo, too. They cut costs, added revenue, and expanded the fan base (here and internationally) while almost ignoring honky boomer fans entirely. It’s a strangely alienating success story to us, as a result.
It also seems like the baseball tourism effect is more pronounced than ever.
The pitch clock really did the most to make the games more enjoyable. Watching Garciaparra fuck with his batting gloves for 30 seconds between every pitch was madness. Or your average pitcher circle the mound and fuck with his hat.
My biggest hope was the oodles of time saved by the pitch clock would make the extra inning ghost runner unnecessary.
But alas.
In a place like SF, sure. Even the Angels are drawing fairly well. Not sure what their out-of-town number are though. But it isn’t playing out that way in Miami attendance-wise. They aren’t drawing flies. Small market/non-touristy towns like KC/Minn/Tampa/Oaklamento aren’t drawing either.
The Mets are still drawing well despite being behind the Giants. How much of that is pre-sales I don’t know. But we are in the same boat. Although that last series over the weekend, there was near sell-outs.
Got to send Loo to a Mets game to see how many butts are actually in seats.

the marlins lag but their post pandemic attendance is nearly 50% higher than pre. (That’s 500% for magats.) Rays are a separate story. Much like the A’s.
For me, the downside of the pitch clock is that it’s discouraged me from the 3-4 hour round trip subway ride from Brooklyn to go to a 2 hour game. If I take the trouble to go there, I’m not in a hurry to leave…
