Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Tough loss but both teams had some ballplayers on em. Most of the Cubs games I remember were more like free for alls. No lead was safe.

Willie, I don’t remember much else about Morales, but it looks like he made the All-Star team in 77, a year his retrospectively applied WAR was -0.7. Impressive. I wonder how many other players can say that.

Curious about something: in the 6th inning of yesterday’s game, the Giants put on a play that actually worked, you might remember that one; with Arraez up and Ramos on 1st with no outs, they sent Ramos, which pulled the SS over to cover 2nd base, and Arraez of course then poked the ball past the point where the SS would’ve been. No DP, instead had runners at the corners with no outs. Schmitt’s HR followed. Good managerial move. But V had already been ejected from the game. Who calls the shots in that case? Is Wotus still the bench coach? Someone else? Or V calling it from the clubhouse tunnel?
What I find interesting in the scenario as you’ve described it is the implicit assumption that Arraez both has the presence of mind to see who covers second and the bat control to intentionally hit the ball to short AND the manager (or whoever called the play) gets credit for avoiding a DP.
Well, that’s exactly what happened, so why are you questioning it? SS was shaded toward 2nd with the lefty at the plate, clearly he was going to cover 2nd, that’s Little League stuff. And yes, Arraez probably has both. Managers do this shit all the time, as they should. Mainly, I was asking if anyone knows who “manages” when the manager is ejected, because that’s who called that play, and it worked. We see a lot of decisions that don’t work, this one did.

Giants and A’s have identical records today. Giants are sixth in mlb attendance with 1.7 million total, 36k+ per game. A’s are last with less than 1/2 a mil, 10k per. Just like olden times. I bet the A’s are making more profit, rev sharing included, on pure baseball.
With Cox still on IL, nice to see McCray contribute with SB and run scored. Like to see him get some run, as legit speed guy and decent CF. Gilbert can’t hit LHP; let’s see what Mac can do. Giants have half dozen guys in lineup with +.770-.800 OPS, and 2 of them (Ramos and Schmitt) are very low salary guys. they can afford one D first OF especially if he can run.
pinch running him for Eldridge was a move that worked. Disruptive, as they say. I’d prefer him over Gilbert.
6th in attendance is misleading I’d think. I just wonder how long it’ll take before people stop coming.
Man, I don’t know. Early 2021 the stadium was barely a third full the couple times I went and the attendance was supposedly 27,000.
If mlb says they’ve sold 1.7 million tickets to date they probably have. If season ticket holders don’t want to attend and can’t resell the tix then concession revenue will suffer, I guess. Not to mention crowd noise. Overall, it’s odd that they’re doing so well several years into the dumps.

Chuck is right he really did change his name from Gonzales (Dad’s name) to mother’s maiden name of Uribe, saying (per wiki), “there are too many Gonzales in baseball.” He had one season where he hit .291, otherwise bat was almost non existent. Career slash line over 8 years with giants was .241/.299/.316.
Juan Uribe is his 2nd cousin.
