! ! ! ! Can’t get any lower. Still I feel I’m sinking ! ! ! !

Outshined by Chris Cornell and Soundgarden. The theme song for your SF Giants 2026 team.

In a season full of pitching debacles and crushing losses, they managed to pull one out for the ages.

Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.

Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.

I guess the lockout is a blessing.

For Dolly . . .

Female intellectuals and baseball, pt 2:

    “Margaret wrote a letter

    sealed it with her finger

    put it in her pocket

    for the Dusty Baker”

Excerpt from a poem by Alice Notley, which I think I posted once before a long time ago. I remember feeling more idiotic than delighted for never seeing “dusty baker” prior to reading the poem the first time.

I read baseball book by Jane Leavy “Make Me Commissioner: I Know what’s Wrong with Baseball and How to Fix It.”

there’s some good stuff in there, and she visits minor league parks across country and talks to black former player running his own travel team for local kids and former managers players and coaches. But she’s nuts, totally.

Sounds like it might be a good read just because she’s nuts!

Spaceman Bill Lee does make an appearance. she’s definitely passionate baseball fan, I’ll give her that.

not many great baseball poems. Ferlinghetti’s ode to the multicultural Giants of Mays and Marichal et al may be the best.Paul Blackburn wrote an ok lyric about the Maz HR game. Moore is famous for her love of the game but …. and Williams’ famous poem about the crowd at the ballpark disappoints. I don’t know about the New York poets. I rarely read them.

Probably better in general if baseball isn’t the explicit subject.

Donald Hall often wrote about baseball. I recall one poem I liked. I tried to Google it up but the AI misinterpreted my inquiry and instantly wrote a baseball poem of its own — a long series of bouncy quatrains in abab rhyme scheme.

Fogerty played at Mountain Mike’s pizza parlor in Palo Alto between the breakup of Creedence and his solo career taking off. Somewhwere around 1978. Couldn’t believe it. $5.00. Great stuff.

And Killian is supposedly one of the better relievers. My goodness. Cut the whole bullpen and bring up AA pitchers, they probably couldn’t do any worse.

did the ump hear a foul ball on that hbp? If so, it fouled off the batter’s glove. But if the batter’s hand was in the strike zone, it doesn’t matter. It’s a strike and a dead ball.

Only the 2 worst teams in the NL could come up with this. A one-hour 9th inning.

    This’ll be ruled a catch.
