Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

This team is not a tire fire, not a dumpster fire, it’s a dairy farm manure mountain fire. My goodness, how did the Giants get to this point from the 3 in 5 pinnacle? Laughable and sad and maddening at the same time…
A mistake by Webb to engage like that, but these kinds of PR fails seem inevitable during disastrous seasons. I’m sure he’s kicking himself.

Never been to a no-hitter, so the Ramos single was deflating. If I’d been sitting at home, I would have been relieved when he hit it. The overall tragicomic mood was greatly enhanced by the company, the estimable San Dawg and the former Grand Master of Ceremonies, Big Flavor, himself. The hottest controversy discussed was whether Borg was Posey or Vitello’s fault 🙂

Well, you had guys like Pete Magowan and Duke Neukom running the team not that long ago. Guys who loved the game and wanted to give the city a winning team and carry on the proud tradition of the San Francisco Giants.
Now we are run by real estate developers who are using the team as a tax haven as they develop all the property they bought for pennies on the dollar so many years ago.

I hate every baseball movie, even the ones I haven’t seen. Even before my daughter’s throwing motion was corrected playing softball, she looked more graceful than any of those unathletic Hollywood chumps.
What I hate *even* more is repeating words like “even” awkwardly in consecutive sentences. A situation made even worse because, despite the editing privileges, fixing it looks petty.
The Natural is the most ludicrous movie made. Minor League is mildly entertaining. At least Charlie Sheen could really pitch. He roided up and was hitting high 80s on the speed gun.
Haven’t seen Minor League. Good for Charlie. The rest are all method actors adding 300 lbs to their weight, learning to play an instrument etc except when it comes to doing a respectable imitation of a baseball player.
Speaking of sports movies, read book recently by Jack McCallum, “The Real Hoosiers” who chronicles all black Crispus Attucks HS in Indianapolis. That’s the team that won 2 HS state championships year after Milan did, led by Oscar Robertson. Interesting story, to say the least.
“Hoosiers” of course is truly fictional account of the game.

Giants are 16-18 since start of June. Both Padres and DBax now under .500 at 46-47, tied for 2nd (and 3rd) place 14 back of LA. If SF somehow played .500 ball rest of way and wound up with 75 wins or so, would Posey stay course with most everyone, TV and staff included? Plenty of ops for young pitchers in rotation and pen.
Well when it comes to the players, he’s only got 3 weeks to figure that out and even if he wants to unload, the crazy contracts are gonna limit him…
Exactly and other than C and CF Posey can limit himself to sorting out pitching. Pitching was clean last night; rare as that is makes for less stressful night for TV. Hopefully Bericoto is OK.

Their only trade bait is Arraez and Ray. I don’t see this team trading Webb, Schmitt, or Eldridge due to their being home grown. And Adames and ChappedLips are gonna require a hefty salary buffett so we are stuck with them.
AAA is chock full of older mediocre pitchers. They’d have to raid the AA ranks to see what they have. The only Rivercats younger than 25 are Wilkerson and Perdomo.
Frankly, I’d like us to keep Arraez. There should be enough pitchers in free agency to firm that up.
Baseball is becoming like football in that parity means teams like the southsiders can suddenly be the toast of the league, while teams on top (Boston, Toronto, AZ, etc) rocket to the bottom of the league.

A little while ago I made a half joking post suggesting that doubling down was Buster’s least embarrassing and most realistic path. If that’s your strategy, re-sign Arraez AND extend Ray. In fact, I’d argue Ray is more valuable to SF than Arraez is. The problem with dumping Ray is that you then have 4 question marks in the rotation instead of 3. If your job #1 is going to be fixing the pitching, who’s better than Ray that you can sign or trade for with the marketable assets you have? Of course, Ray may just want to test the market. And who knows if his newfound 92 mph sinker really is going to keep him in the game for a few more years.
That’s the rub. What will likely happen is little to nothing.

As soon as he signs a 4-year deal somewhere, I predict his numbers will drop back into the regions that have previously made him so expendable. Still a pretty good and fun player, but … That’s not a cause and effect argument. His history just does not shout “near certain 330 hitter for the next 4 years.” I’m also skeptical that he was as bad a defensive player as reputed nor as good as he’s grading now. I’m not sure how Ron Washington can increase a player’s range that much.

Today a friend mentioned he went to see “Wanda,” a contender for the most depressing movie ever made. He also touted a book about Wanda’s director Barbara Loden. It’s by a french author Nathalie Leger, who describes meeting Mickey Mantle in the Harry Houdini museum while he’s writing his memoirs:

I was thinking today about new Dusty book and his connection with John Lee Hooker. In south bay JJ’s on Steven’s creek in Santa clara was place I hit to see young (and skinny) Chris Cain and other locals for $5 cover.
Then JJ’s opened Mt. View branch right at El Camino and Grant Rd., tucked away in far corner (today it’s a humongous Best Buy), and the Hook used to sit at bar often in trademark hat. Lot of headliners there, Elvin Bishop Little Charlie Luther Tucker before he passed.
I think Dusty and Elvin Bishop have been friends for a long time. I remember reading about them fishing together or something.
Stayed up all night in Salt Lake City of all places partying with Charlie Daniels and Elvin Bishop. Think I was 17?
