Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

Yeah, I heard the other day on KNBR about this Spencer Miles guy. Not getting too riled up about another one of these. Every team has “the one(s) who got away”, but I’d like to know how the Giants system fares compared to the others in this measurement of talent mis-identification and mis-management.
Chuck had that chart of SF being at the very bottom of 1st round draftees the last decade and their MLB cumulative WAR, not surprising in general to what our eyes have seen, but very telling in the specific measurement.
Maybe there is a similar chart somewhere of which teams are compared on who is best at not wasting their own talent, i.e., letting them go, only to flourish elsewhere. Right now, this team is so bad, there are just too many organizational problems to get super peeved at just one of them…
I think that chart was through 2023 and was focused on first round picks. The average rookie debuts at age 25. It doesn’t really reflect the overall draft from the last several years. I also assume the Giants weren’t picking too high in 2013, 2015, or 2017. I don’t know how much better the players from the 2020s will fare compared to those from the end of the Sabean years, but the chart has relatively little to say about the Zaidi or Posey drafts.
MCC had rundown of Giants minors teams. Noted that High A Eugene beat Vancouver on road 12-9, led by CF Dakota Jordan who hit HR #13 second only to Bo Davidson who also homered for Richmond #18 and SS Gavin Kilen, both hitting for average and high (.800 OPS) and only in early 20s.
Johnny Level (age 19) is there too and hitting .299, though he did make 2 errors at 2b. Meanwhile Whis stunk it up again in El Paso, giving up 7 hits 6 runs 3 BBs 2 bombs 1 K in 94 pitches. Not exactly encouraging outing, yet again., as noted he’s given up more BBs 13 than Ks 12 over last 4 starts, which only total 18 IP. Yikes

Good one. Dance music in america has always been amazing since young people moved away from Big Bands of Ellington/Basie era. Watched about half of Little Richard bio on KQED earlier–him chuck Berry Jackie Wilson helped get things going along with NYC factory songwriters; this was first music I heard or watched on TV. Stones were in awe of Richard when he toured England in early 60s. Pretty hilarious to see Pat Boone talking about making $ off Richard’s tunes…while Richard himself was being short changed by his own record company at the time.
After that came Motown and continue R/B evolution of 60s in Stax/Volt Muscle Shoals. Good stuff, all

Missed Giants AZ set due to being in hotel for few days while apt. building was under going some construction. Like Snarkk, watched lot of soccer-France was amazing. Cape Verde (pop half mil per wiki) still alive. The father of one of my favorite jazz artists, Horace Silver, was from there. Silver recorded LP The Cape Verdean Blues in 1967, wonderful set of 6 tunes performed by Joe Henderson Woody Shaw J J Johnson Bob Cranshaw and Roger Humphries. More good stuff.
