Yes, the biggest blown 9th inning league in the 125 year history of the team. They were 2,208-0 when leading by 6 or more in the 9th. Til today.
Up 9-3 in the top of the 9th, the team could not even get an out before Cincy tied it. Bivans came in and really had no clue. Not sure why whoever the interim manager even was didn’t pull him a little faster, but I think it was pretty obvious Bivens didn’t have it. He gave up the longest home run into the cove that I’ve ever seen. Then again, Smith came in and nuked the joint. And the rest was errors, walks and general rookie ball crap.
I guess the lockout is a blessing.

That play Schmitt made last night was really one of the best DP plays ever I’ve seen ,after just scraping the bag for the force he was like 4-5 ft in foul territory and got enough on the throw with help to get the DP..
Schmitt makes Chapman superfluous. Time for Chappie to go so a roster spot can open for a young player…

Stoneham era was golden just couldn’t get big one. Iirc Herman Franks led teams finished 2nd 4 times in a row 1965-68-he vowed to quit after third one if it happened again, and to his regret it did and he did.

Buster gave Chapman the no trade clause. He’s since gone on record saying he won’t go to any team that is not in Arizona for Spring Training — he lives in Phoenix. That’s a problem if he’s adamant about that.
I was for his acquisition, but being someone who never pays much attention to the AL, that was before I really looked at the details of his baseball card as he played. I knew he was great with the glove and had some power, but criminy, no idea he was so streaky to the point of useless at the plate for weeks at a time — and K’d so much. When his glove goes, and it’s starting to, look out — that WAR is down the toidy. Chapman at bat is as bad in stretches as Blanco was in his usual 6 for 50+ summer swoon.
In the eye test, Schmitt’s glove and arm seem as capable at 3rd right now, and much more consistent at the plate — plus he’s on the upside of his prime, not heading down. Not to mention so cheap and under team control. Giants could eat half or even a bit more of Chapman’s salary in trade and still be ahead of the budget game the next few years with Schmitt at third…
The ABs I look forward to now are Eldridge, Arraez, Schmitt and JHLee, and actually Bericoto out of curiousity. I dread Adames, Chapman and Devers, in that order…
unfortunately those facts highlight the extraordinary trade value of Schmitt.

Since it looks like Buster is going to be compelled to double down on 3/4 of his All-Star IF, and Webb is the only untouchable, I suggest that he finally vanquish all visible traces of the Saracen infidel’s design. Re-sign Arraez and trade Eldridge, Schmitt, Lee, Cox, Bericoto, Ray, Kilian et al and any current prospect acquired between 2019-2024 who looks like he has a chance to reach the majors (Level, Davidson, Jordan). Wearing “Jesus Won” t-shirts can’t be a consideration. They can join the already banished Harrison, Tibbs, Miles, and Bailey. In a world of uncertainty, it’s good to have a plan with clear parameters.
I’d prefer a surgical not a liturgical approach, personally.

Wow! Ollie Brown! Good mention Willie . . . He probably had the best arm in the Giants outfield, but was always blocked more or less by Mays, Jesus Alou and Bobby Bonds. I forgot how the expansion draft worked, but San Diego got him when the league expanded. He hit 20-25 bombs in his first season with them I think. He had a very good career, good on base skills, and very good outfielder. My grandfather liked him a lot.
Bivens will be in soon, at this rate.
