RIP Jim Brown

Jim Brown, one of football’s, and humanity’s, greatest passed away at the age of 87. Beyond the punishing power and speed of his football abilities, he was one of the original social justice warriors who never backed down from a fight. He was one of the first mega football stars as he drove the popularity of the sport on TV in the early 60s with his relentless running style. In his short 9 year career he shattered rushing and TD records across the league.

At the height of his career he retired to pursue acting. He did a great turn in the Dirty Dozen, 100 Rifles opposite Raquel Welch, and a bunch of blaxploitation films, including the parody I’m Gonna Git You, Sucka! Great stuff. His inner-city causes spanned decades, and raised millions upon millions.

Rushing for 1,863 s a great season by today’s standards. Brown did it in 14 games.
Brown also rushed for 1,538 in 12 games in 1963.

My father in law was a huge football fan and saw Brown play a bunch of times.

He would drive up from LA to go to Kezar and watch games.

I never saw him live but they showed him on tv quite a bit. When I was a kid I would watch whatever game of the week was on. I remember they seemed to be mostly Bears or Packer games but they would throw in some Steelers and Browns games. Funny but I don’t watch any games but Niner games now.

Jim Brown once said to HOF TE John Mackey..
“Make sure when anyone tackles you he remembers how much it hurts” He lived by that philosophy and I always followed that advice..
NY Giants HOF LB Sam Huff would say I would try and tackle him and he would just stiff arm me and drag me for extra yard until more players arrived.
Cowboys HOF Bob Lilly said one time Jim Brown hit me so hard he bent my face mask!!
Yeah Jim Brown set the standards as the Greatest RB ever.Never missed a game (118 straight) Pro Bowl all 9 years 3 time MVP, and the only RB to average 104 yards in his career carrying the pigskin!Gale Sayers once said “Greatest RB?”oh easy it’s Jim Brown everyone else is second “
Yeah I was just a young kid watching him on TV, but thinking man this guy is a runaway freight train with so much power running thru are around his opponents so easily. And then when he looked like he could barely get up from exhaustion, he would get back to the huddle and bang you again ,wash, rinse& repeat!

Hopefully that is sarcasm because if it isn’t the Jets will continue to be the Jets. Trainwreck already?

Good news the NFL bylaws have approved a 3rd QB can be active on game day next year without affecting a roster spot. League probably didn’t want to see what happened to the 49ers in the Championship game against the Eagles again.
Let’s call it the Brock Purdy Rule!

Yep. Saw that. The whole thing around only dressing 48 out of 53 is stupid enough as it is. At least this relieves one big issue.
