This is a Call . . .

To San Dawg as his San Dawg State Aztecs hit the Elite 8 and try for a Final 4 appearance tomorrow against the Creighton B Jays. Gotta say, I’m actually getting psyched for these games as it is a bunch of teams that haven’t gotten this far. As I’m typing this, the Florida Atlantic Owls just knocked off perennial powerhouse K-State. In fact, all of the #1’s were ousted by the Elite 8 games. A first since the 64 team seeding in 1979.

All we need now is for the Zags to take down UConn. Texas/Miami sounds more like the BCS National Championship football game. Hey, we’ll see.

And baseball is 5 days away! The rotation actually looks pretty strong. The pen has settled down the closer we get to the real thing. Hitting? Defense? That is the question, and that is the question.

Yeah, March madness is actually entertaining this year. Always love the underdogs in playoffs like this. I guess SD St. isn’t an underdog anymore but I’m still rooting for em.

I am hoping the Giants will be competitive. I don’t think we are a team with very much depth but so far we have some kids showing some ball skills. All we need is a spark and if everyone buys in well who knows. Just a great time of year.

I am even excited about the Niners chances and the draft.

Yeah, Casey Schmitt looks like a solid guy. Good D and he’s hitting. Love to see him make the jump. Still need to get some home grown OFers.

Zags 2-17 from beyond ain’t gonna cut it.

3-18 in the 2nd half. Ouch.

Yeah, hitting and defense are indeed the question marks, no real sense on how that will go, until we see it unfold in the first few weeks. It could be fun to see which players step up, might be some surprises. The pitching does indeed look solid, so perhaps just like back in 2010, we’ll be relying on that and hope the offense just produces enough runs in most of the games. I remember in 2003, the team had a bunch of new-ish players and Felipe Alou said it would take awhile to gel as a team. Then they came out winning right from the start. It can happen, but it’s probably going to take some surprises as this team attempts to gel.

Yes, a terrific tourney with all these unheralded teams making deep runs. Even better, no North Carolina at all and the likes of Duke, Kentucky and Kansas making early exits.

Opening Day less than five days away. For game 2 next Saturday, I’ll be meeting up with James and Loo in the Bronx for a mini Flapalooza. Can’t wait!

For those of you interested, The Flap has returned.

That’s awesome, Mac! Take some pics. Shit, the last time I was in New York they were finishing the south tower, and I saw Mays play for the Mets at Shea.

  8. unca_chuck says:

    Long live the flap!

  9. unca_chuck says:

SD gets a foul with 1.2 left after blowing a 2 pt lead with a horrific inbounds fuckup. Unreal. There have been 6 TOs in the last 12 seconds.

And now a 10 minute review over the tipped pass OB with 0.3 left. Game OVER!!

San Dawgs move on to the Final Four!!

  10. unca_chuck says:

Dubs 2 point lead and the ball with 14 seconds left and they blow it. 6 turnovers in the 4th quarter.
