Solid game for Trey in limited action. Backup D played well. Even Sudfeld had an easy TD on his first throw when GB busted their coverage. Brock Purdy did fine as well. All in all, a decent game. And this is likely what we get all (short) preseason. 2 series for Trey, 4-5 throws, a deep shot. Word out of practice is Lance does much better when our starting CBs are not in. With them out yesterday, Trey was 11-14. Jimmie Ward is out for a month with a bad hammy, and it looks like T Moore is winning the starting job with him out. But all in all, we are pretty much in rest mode for the starters.
Not sure how this works out strategically but at least they are practicing. There’s saving players for the real thing and there’s not preparing them for the rigors of a 17 game season. Both sides of the coin are valid, but there you go. Injuries sure seem to be hitting teams harder now that they have gone to a much softer training / hitting preseason. Guys coming in fat and out of shape needed 6 preseason games to get themselves ready. Now, guys stay in better shape, more or less, but there are now only 3 preseason games to get ready, and the starters get maybe 10-15 plays. There’s got to be a happy medium, but losing a guy to a preseason injury is much more damaging than a rusty QB to start the season.
Speaking of practice, the Niners travel to Minnesota for a couple day of practice ahead of their Saturday game. A good thing I guess as these guys get to hit other guys instead of their own. It also gives the Niners a chance to see how Trey responds to a lesser talented defense. It would be nice to see him light these guys up, but we’ll see.
Less than FOUR weeks to kickoff!!!
Well it’s already hammy time and we are going into our joint practice with at least 4 with hammys and a couple more with knees and ribs It is so disheartening that we do this every fucking TC. It’s gonna be cross your fingers every game this year, not only for wins but also for no more fucking injuries.
Hammy time indeed. One Niner shirt in the vid…
Hard to believe this is 30 years old.
49ers cut Darquez Dennard who was in the running for the nickel spot, and a former #1 pick by the Bengals back in 2014 That role now looks like it’s Sammy Womack spot.Very smart player who’s 2 interception game against GB opened a lot of eyes…
Couldn’t ask more for the first tune up game of the season. Training camp and preseason are always funny. Of course we want nothing but positives from everything, but I think we gotta take the negative with a grain of salt. I remember last year the news coming out all preseason was that Joe Burrow couldn’t throw and Chase couldn’t catch…well…
Trey’s TD pass was one that Jimmy has overthrown multiple times. My hope and expectation for Trey this season is just to hit the open guy haha. I mean what I wouldn’t give for a Herbert, Burrow, Mahomes, etc. type playmaker. But realistically starting out I’ll settle for simply hitting the open man while he figures out the game.
Hammy time happens all the time. I feel like with Ward especially. I think you’re right, Unca, with the softer preseason comes more injuries for the league. Which is having the exact opposite outcome that was intended. You hear some coaches who get it, like Campbell with Detroit, talking about taking licks and needs to hit and be hit to truly get ready for a season. I have always enjoyed this time of year. The anticipation of the start of the season. Getting looks at guys you’ve never heard of, eternal optimism. I’ve been to a few training camp practices for the Saints and Vikings (ew, I know) and it’s fun watching the pros practice. I miss hearing the tales of two a days and stuff, but training camp is always a fun time of year for me. Maybe because my hometown Twins are usually eliminated (or like this year falling) so I’m ready to move on. There. There’s my little ode to training camp which people usually hate. I mean, I’m ready for the season to start and for Sunday’s to get back to being sacred. Sunday morning breakfast, lighting the pit, cracking the brews, #85 jersey and lucky hat…
Man, Unca, this site has a hard time publishing my comments. Every time I write one, it gets deleted. Then I write about half because I already wrote it once and I forgot what I said.
Anyway, I think that was about all we could ask for from Trey. Jimmy would have overthrown that TD 7 out of 10 times. My hope for the season is that he can consistently hit the open man. That may seems obvious. But I’ll settle for him hitting open players while the game comes to him than expecting this Herbert, Burrow, Mahomes, etc type playmaker right away.
I for one love this time of year. Training camp is so fun. Looking at guys you’d normally never get a chance to see. Eternal optimism. Rooting for an underdog coming out of camp. I remember the word out of camps last year was that Burrow couldn’t throw and Chase couldn’t catch…well…
I’ve been to a few training camp practices and I love it. Am I ready for my sacred Sundays to return? You bet. But this time of year is always joyful to me. Maybe it’s because my hometown Twins are usually out of contention for the pennant? Either way, hope springs eternal for us.
Is there a way to get your comments to post the first time? This is my third time trying, and it happens every time I try to comment. I usually just give up because I’m tired of trying.
What is going on? I don’t have email verification turned on.
The one thing I’ll say is sometimes you have to clear your internet cache to get the current page to load.
Joshua, five of your comments were stuck in my filter. Don’t know why.
I cleared them.
I changed some settings as well.
NFL and NFLPA reach agreement on 11 game suspension for Deshaun Watson( includes 5M fine) his 1st game being eligible is Week 13 ironically against his former team the Texans..
Start up the Jimmy G rumors again lol 😂
Hmmm. Right on the border of Cleveland wanting to get someone better than they have for those 11 games.
Funny how that works out. Jesus. The NFL can’t miss an opportunity for a bigger crowd and more $$$$$.
Sorry, Chuck, I didn’t mean to have all those post. The comments just weren’t posting so I kept trying lol
Jimmy needs to go to the Saints. That would be the best landing place for him. I know there are a few other teams that NEED a QB, but NOLA seems to make the most sense. Unless they don’t want to face him in the NFC, that I could understand.
As long as he ain’t in the division they’ll trade him there. The Browns are on the table with Mr McFeely suspended for 11 games.
Even when Watson gets back Cleveland will still suck. Karma is a bitch and so very real. I think Jimmy will do everything he can not to play there. If we cut him loose Seattle will take him in a minute. So far out draft class seems to be doing ok. Still hard to tell until the real starts happening but it looks like we got a few good football players. A couple of big rb’s in Price and Mason. I read that Sermon limped off the field yesterday and that will probably be a recurring theme for him. Our defensive backfield looks like we got a couple of winners in Womack and Quantrez(sp), in fact all our defense looks fucking great. Can’t wait for the real deal.
Watched some of the Seahawks game and there was a guy holding a sign that said “We need Jimmy G Freaking Fast!!”
If it comes to that, we’ll hang on to him and wait for some other guy to go down rather than cut him.
Looks like mostly kids today. Just hope for no injuries
Yeah Winder just looking for special teams potentials and seeing how some guys that need extra work like OTBanks,G Burford ,Skule etc..
Real impressed by that 5th rd pick CB from Toledo Sam Womack a very smart player with great instincts!
New thread is up.
