Still Raining . . . Still Hoping

Hoping for us to trade Jimmy and keep Deebo. NOT the other way around. Here’s what Deebo himself said about the situation:

In other words, the media is blowing smoke, as usual.

I think we do keep Deebo. And trade Jimmy G to the Panthers.

Sure hope so. It’s hard to believe it’s gotten to this point. Rumors are flying all over the place that the Jets are putting together a huge package of draft picks. We’ll know in about 24 hours. I really hope they just keep and sign him, because no way you draft a guy that can just replace him, not in my opinion.

At the end of the day, I think it’s about the dough, usage notwithstanding. Just fucking pay him.

I seem to be a contrary voice here, lol. Restating a NN comment the jets deal is done. Deebo camp told early they cannot afford him. That is why he scrubbed his Instagram photos. Jets doing the contract extension today.

Is it #10, #35 + #38? Deebo shined with constraints of Jimmy. With Trey and Jimmy release the constraints on playcalling and salary cap are gone. Dollars for bosa and FA’s like JC Tretter, etc are there.

      • bakkentom says:

For Alex Mack successor seems like Dylan parham and Luke fortner have the ZBS mobility and size for DT bullrush’s. May trade up to get either. Taart replacement another ptiority.

  2. Winder says:

I don’t know what to believe about the Deebo situation. I do know he could have shut it all down right when first reported and didn’t. I am all for keeping him if he continues to play with the heart that he’s done in the past. However, I think the big money is gonna go to his head. That is just my opinion. I seems to me that there might be some irreparable damage going on here. I guess his agent finally told him that we hold all the cards for his near future. if we could get a bunch of picks/players for him I think I would pull the trigger.

  3. Irish Kevin says:

ESPN analyst said the Niners would be foolish to trade Deebo, he was 28% of their offense last year. I think they keep him.

    https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/nfl-rumors-49ers-rejected-jets-deebo-samuel-package-headlined-no-10-pick

Now that Philly has given $100M and guaranteed $57M to AJ Brown, the number for Deebo moves higher.

    • NJ49ER says:

Do we see Paraag going above that line in the sand?
      I ain’t holding my breath.
We’re still waiting for them to get Jimmy off the books while they continue to make headlines and get nothing done.

  5. NJ49ER says:

If they were a used car lot Grandpa’s ’76 AMC Pacer would be on the lot for $100K FIRM.
“Grandpa loved this car, you should too”

    • bakkentom says:

FO screwed the pooch. Deebo 25 mil for next two years in a longer term contract. Only one offer and what the fck were they waiting for.

GB has two picks at #53, #59. Drafted two defense pieces.

      • bakkentom says:

Coaching exodus on FO’s mind? Willing to take it between the cheeks with deebo dollars versus trusting new coaching staff to develop a 1st rd wr quickly.

      • bakkentom says:

#53, #59, #61 and use later picks to trade up as much as possible. Other pick from GB trade could be pushed to 2023.

        Get deebo off the roster.

  6. Winder says:

The FO didn’t like the offers. There is no desperation here. My guess is we unload both Deebo and Jimmy before TC. Either that or Deebo is just blowing smoke and will take a legitimate offer.

  7. Lurker John says:

Well, for all intents and purposes, the draft is over at least as far as trading Deebo is concerned. And I’m glad. I can’t imagine Deebo himself is too happy about it, but the Niners have full control over him for two more years I believe if you count this year and the fact that they can tag him for one year after that.

Let’s hope the team can patch things up and get him signed and quickly, but we’ll have to see how that plays out. This waiting bullshit has to stop, especially in this case. Winder makes a good point, you have to wonder how his attitude will be if they can’t sign him.

My take again is just sign him and pay him what he’s worth. He’s too valuable to this team, especially given that we’ll allegedly have a new (essentially rookie) QB taking over soon. The mishandling of the Garoppolo situation hasn’t helped anything, but the Panthers did not draft a QB, so maybe there’s an out there.

Now we get to see which players the 49ers draft, starting tonight.

  8. unca_chuck says:

There is no way we look good trading Deebo at this point. The trade window is done for that since round 1 is over.

Jimmy? I said earlier we would likely be stuck with him through June and early July. There really is nothing that is going to happen, barring some kind of ludicrous offer from the Panthers for Jimmy or someone breaks their leg.

Deebo? I still think this is merely posturing on the part of Deebo’s agent. Like Randy Moss said years ago, this is about “straight cash, homie”. We will work out a deal in the next month.

    • bakkentom says:

FO blew it not taking the jets offer yesterday. WR1 is now an out of reach position, elite vets are breaking the teams salary cap. Deebo excelled due to Jimmy and injured RB’s. Neither of that now does not need a yac go-to wr.

Virtually impossible to find a trading team that is willing to pay for a WR1 now. They are gone.

  9. unca_chuck says:

The 49ers discovered in the last 20 years how hard it is to get elite WRs. They need to keep what they have and add to it, not trade guys away. Bourne was bad enough to lose as he’s a solid #2. Even Sanders would have been fine rather than the shit they drafted in Hurd and Pettis. They drafted shit for 3 years till they hit on Deebo and Aiyuk.

  10. Lurker John says:

A #10 pick is fine and dandy, but there’s almost zero chance they would’ve drafted a guy who’d come anywhere close to replacing what Deebo is right now, young and one of the best in the league already. And that’s if they would’ve even tried to draft a wideout.

I have plenty of issues with the front office. They often seem clueless to me, but in this instance they made the right move. Even with all the bluster Deebo’s camp has been putting out, I tend to be on board with what Chuck is saying, it’s all about the dough, so just fucking pay the guy. I’m sick of this cheap ass shit.

Tell me Trey Lance wouldn’t benefit from having a guy like that to throw to. And yes, Aiyuk figures to keep getting better also and that would make for a devastating WR duo. Deebo doesn’t want to run anymore? Fine, throw it to him more instead. This shit doesn’t have to be this complicated.

    • Winder says:

Yeah, i thought the Jets would have come up with a better offer.

      • bakkentom says:

Maybe other teams don’t value deebo as highly as the Homer’s do. Sure seems like FO sensed this and tried to flush out any GM’s that had a homer-like view on him. They have an organization to analyze this stuff. Outside of NYJ there were no takers. Would rather draft and develop 1st rd wr talent with a rookie contract.

Would be surprised to see if any team would trade with us with that 25 mil contract. Even with vets added to the trade package.

      • Winder says:

Maybe so but I still think the Jets offer was a low-ball. Deebo’s stats last year put him in a class pretty much by himself. As far as how other GM’s view him I don’t know. I would never trade him to a division opponent. GB or Dallas would have to make an offer we couldn’t refuse. I thought Miami would have jumped in and maybe they did IDK. We will see how this plays out but I wouldn’t have traded him for a 10th and a latter rd pick either.

  11. unca_chuck says:

I wouldn’t trade him in the NFC. Fucking Green Bay? No Goddamn way on Earth. Not that Rodgers won with Davante Adams, but still and all, him going to a contender (say KC) would instantly put them one step closer to the prize.

It makes no sense. Esp as there’s been little actual noise from Deebo himself.

  12. alleykat69 says:

WR’s are the new breed over RB’s now working the big contracts especially in a passing league.
The contracts now of Adams,Hill, AJ Brown are more about the guarantee money up front.
Give Deebo 60 million guaranteed up front and he will sign for 110 million are so, the 49ers need him badly they can’t count on doghouse Aiyuk to be the main guy.Interesting what the Titans did , they came at a impasse with Brown with the money are guaranteed money, decided to trade him to Eagles who instantly signed a 4/100 mil deal, then they draft Burks as is replacement and saved 90 mil in salary are so.Not as good as Brown but still a bold move that could payoff going forward.

    • bakkentom says:

Carolina and Houston may be looking at QB Mayfield and Garoppolo tonight in trade for picks. Deebo could see trade action with picks and a vet also. Low odds for either but ….

      • Lurker John says:

Without at least a first rounder, Deebo isn’t going anywhere, imo. Maybe first rounder in a future draft, but why would the Niners pass on a high first round pick in the one year when they don’t have one at all? Makes no sense.

I don’t think he’s going anywhere and will soon be a very wealthy man. Let’s see if they can stock up on key positions with the picks they do have. I’m sure they’ll try to do some maneuvering if they see something they like.

    • Lurker John says:

You seem tepid on Aiyuk, Kat, whereas I see him breaking out in 2022. There were issues early last year, but he came on nicely in the second half of the season and has all the physical talent in the world. He’s tough over the middle and can definitely get behind defenders. Garoppolo’s inability to throw the ball downfield has hurt the Niners ever since his arrival. Think of the plays they left on the field in 2021 alone.

With Lance better able to throw outside the numbers, we might see BA put up some big plays and TD’s. My guess is that he’s been working his ass off this off-season, if only to prove he was worthy of a first round pick. He’s tough and competitive and I like that.

With him, Deebo, Kittle and Jennings, Lance is going to have some nice options. If they can draft a good slot receiver, things will look even better.
