Brady for Jiminy? Pfffffft

This is the latest rumor in the grist mill. Among a billion of them. TB may straight release him, so the point is moot. And I don’t know. We’d need a revamped line besides to get Brady enough time to throw. I think The Beli would want to fleece us a little harder so it prolly wouldn’t be worth it anyway.

I don’t know. I see a trade with either the Broncos or Steelers coming up soon for the services of Jiminy Cricket. The team seems worthy of honoring their promise to trade Jimmy to a contender. And Pittsburgh and Denver fill the bill nicely. A middling 1? a 2 and 4. A 3 and a 4? Whatever it is, we need to clear the decks for the upcoming season, and his money is vital to keeping Deebo and Bosa, among a bunch of other guys.

Mostert? Sure, if the deal is team-friendly. Don’t know what he wants, but having missed the entire year minus one series, he isn’t in a strong bargaining position. Same with Jason Verrett. But the defense is a convo for another time. Mostert, Mitchell, and Sermon would be a nice set of backs to have. With speedy JaMycal Hasty as the super sub. With all of them healthy, we can hopefully KEEP them healthy all season and do damage on the ground.

A strong run game will be essential in Trey Lance’s development. As will a deep threat. This team desperately needs to open up the passing game to more than between-the-numbers slants and dig routes. Not that they don’t serve their purpose, but they have to show off Trey’s arm and take shots downfield. This will benefit the run game AND the short passing game, not to mention Lance scrambles for big gains, a la Russell Wilson.

Shanahan HAS to grasp that this is how you develop a mobile QB. Put him in the pocket to make throws or break contain when the situation dictates. Do NOT run the read-option. Mix in some roll-outs, but do NOT send the QB on end-arounds. It’s bad enough doing that with Deebo, but with the QB leads to plays like the one that nearly got Lance killed on the goal line last season. Protect the investment, ninny.

Anyhow, the Olympics are over, basketball is on their All Star break, baseball is in lockdown, and there ain’t shit going on, other than the possible start of WW III.

woo hoo

  1. Winder says:

I read somewhere today that Mariota would make a good bridge starter or backup since he would probably thrive in Shanny’s system. He would also come pretty cheap.

  2. Flavor says:

no point in trading for Brady’s old ass, even assuming he still wants to play. You know all those pics of players in their final team uni’s and you’re like “God I have no recollection of them ever playing for that team”. Same thing with this.
And the Niners have a plan, they didn’t trade all those first rounders away just so they could pivot and get Brady for a year.
Fuck him anyway, he got way too much credit for some of those SB wins.

    • Winder says:

Yeah, I don’t see us getting Brady mostly because he is probably retired and if not he would cost way to much money. Money we need to spend elsewhere. Lance is our guy even if he hasn’t proved himself yet. We do need to get a competent backup though.

    • unca_chuck says:

Lol. No shit. 2 are completely luck jobs. Shanny’s complete 25 point melt down, and the non-beast mode play. And of course, the tuck rule game. The rest? Meh. 7-3 becomes 4-6.

Not that Brady didn’t bring them back from that deficit, but Shanny just absolutely fucked up the play calling in that 4th quarter to give the game away at the end. A recurring theme with Shanahan.

Is Brady great Sure. He did a lot with some pretty pedestrian teams. At least on offense. But zero picks in the Super Bowl and zero losses goes a long way in my book. Joe never really just handed the ball off and rode the defense like a lot of Super Bowl QBs.

  3. unca_chuck says:

All that sounds great but last year, they were in the running for both Rodgers and Brady. If some kind of unicorn fell into their laps, I think they’d go for it.

I wouldn’t do it, but this front office has been very knee-jerk about things at times.

The future is now. Lance got his red-shirt season. We need to build the line and fix the back end of the defense. We are close.

    • Irish Kevin says:

Scoring points will take pressure off the D, but the do need another edge rusher, and two – three Corners? Being a corner has to be one of the hardest jobs in the NFL the way the rules protect the WR. Pass rush is the key, don’t give the QB time to make his reads.

  4. NJ49ER says:

Pass rush is improvement for the secondary.
Need to upgrade our pass protection also.
Then, we need to learn how to step up when we get a lead, and that’s on Shanny.

    He’s got no killer instincts.
Butt puckeritis in crunch time going back to SB, here and ATL.

  5. unca_chuck says:

That’s my big worry. Some of that is on Jimmy G and his late fails, but I blame Shanny more, much like Matty Ice in the Super Bowl, by putting him and the team in a bad situation where they got a sack and a holding call to put them out of FG range when they simply should have run the ball twice, kicked the FG, and won the game.

His situational awareness is fucking awful. Like the last 2 drives we had against the Rams. The delay of game was flat ineptitude at its absolute motherfucking worst. You CAN’T take a 5 yard penalty that deep in your own territory with 3 fucking timeouts and the NFC Championship on the line. ALL those plays we were unprepared on the snap and no one knew what was going on.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, the Niners had the ball for 47 seconds.

    • NJ49ER says:

And add the fact the Deebo didn’t see a play called his way when we needed it most.
Granted, everyone keys on Deebo but Shanny seems to overthink things in big moments and loses perespective.
Again, Butt puckeritis in crunch time destroys the outcome.

  6. alleykat69 says:

    NJ…”Butt Pukeritis” LMFAO 🤣
Yeah it seems to be just that, when the biggest game changing moment is needed Shanahan’s butt cheeks tighten up so much a fart can’t even get released..

  7. unca_chuck says:

It’s like Shanahan left the building midway through the 4th quarter.

  8. Winder says:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter suggested the 49ers might keep Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason.
Schefter said Kyle Shanahan and the Niners could stick with Garoppolo in 2022 in large part because the QB is popular with teammates and Trey Lance still has a ways to go in his development as an NFL passer. Lance, Schefter said, “was probably further behind than people realized, Trey Lance is greener than people realize, Trey Lance is going to need more work than people realize, and they have a roster that can win now.” Schefter added the team is “happy” with Lance’s development. Garoppolo, a $26.9 million cap hit in 2022, is signed for one more year with San Francisco. Shanahan’s unwavering commitment to Garoppolo in the team’s 2021 postseason run suggests he could be amenable to letting Lance, 21, sit for another season before taking over the offense. The Niners’ minds could change quickly, however, if a team offers major draft capital in exchange for Jimmy G.

  9. Winder says:

Yeah, I think it’s bullshit too.

  10. alleykat69 says:

Yeah it’s all bullshit smoke&mirror like the draft when it was do the 49ers take Lance are Jones? It was always going to be Lance in a division where mobile QB’s rule(Stafford not withstanding) and Shanny was getting fed up not having one to develop.Jimmy G and his 26 mil cap savings is a no brainer moving on plus picks it’s a win win situation..

Speaking of pipe dream rumors Christian McCaffrey to the Niners another added toy for Lance? Used properly with Mitchell, that would be something special to see..TE Dalton Schultz to make a sweet double threat combo with Kittle? My dream F/A CB JC Jackson, A F/A center theirs a few good ones while Mack considers retirement at 37… Yeah most will be franchise tagged , but u never know, and Marthage (sp) working the books anything is possible in a Dreamscape/Innerspace Movie ..

  11. Irish Kevin says:

These are some of the FA edge rushers, any the Niners should look at
    Chandler Jones
    Von Miller
    Harold Landry
    Jadeveon Clowney
    Haasson Reddick
    Randy Gregory
    Emanuel Ogbah
    Derek Barnett
    Charles Harris

    • NJ49ER says:

Draft classs loaded with edge guys and DBs.
Hopefully Lynch won’t whiff on needs that can contribute early.
Gotta keep a nucleus of pass rush guys in the stable.

Would love to see a veteran CB in FA along with replacement IOL-man if Laken departs.
No clue what to expect from McGlinchey either.

  12. unca_chuck says:

    Loved this guy growing up.

    • Winder says:

One truly tough guy. The Niners were full of tough guys, we didn’t always win a lot but I don’t think there was any team in this era that wanted to play us.

  13. Winder says:

There is a good possibility that Seattle puts the franchise tag on DJ Reed. And we just gave him away.

  14. NJ49ER says:

Concerned about the number of coaching departures of late.
Appears Bobby Turner may be done along with multiple assistant’s in other phases.
Anthony Lynn was a major addition at least.

Quietly wondering if Jed has rattled Shanny’s foundation?
If so, it needed to be done.
Titus Fishcunt needs to find another gear, along with an answer for Seattle and AZ.

  15. NJ49ER says:

Combine week will get things moving in terms of players on the move.
Jimmy’s money is no secret to anyone else in the NFL.
Becomes an outright interest or need issue for another GM holding hope to bridge a gap.
Rivera or Ruhle seem to be the most obvious to me.
Raiders and McDaniels have a familiarity angle but, no real need with Carr there.

Be nice if Pittsburgh made a move our way.
I’m not expecting much due to Jimmy’s injury history and inability to handle deep throws.

  16. NJ49ER says:

Texans have a Pat’s connection once Deshaun is sent packing too.
All starts next week in Indy to see who, what, where and when.
ARod and Russ will be the table setters for Jimmeh’s options when the chairs start filling up, and the music stops.

  17. NJ49ER says:

ARod to Denver would be a great time for GB to have to make a decision too.
    Gonna be interesting 🤔

  18. alleykat69 says:

NJ…I read where 49ers player personal director Ran Carthon who’s been on Lynch’s staff since 2017 is to interview with the Steelers for their GM position opening (along with several others)
If hired being black he would qualify under the minority hiring program and the 49ers would receive a 3rd rd pick in 2023 and a 3rd rd pick in 2024..
Like with McDaniel these minority hires from the past could pay off some nice dividends later on..

    • NJ49ER says:

Certainly won’t hurt AK but, it continues to deplete continuity within our FO.

Picks are always a valued commodity in my book but…. We’re whiffing on too many of the earlty guys since the start of the Lynch era.

With all the recent coaching connections to us however (Saleh/LaFluer/McDaniel etc), it does open doors to trade talks between us, and those teams.

Beginning to think we’re on the precipice of a major overhaul?
Lynch golf outing with Fangio in recent days?
Planning for Ryans’ departure / replacement perhaps?
Quite the busy post season already, for the guys that LOST the NFCCG huh?

  19. NJ49ER says:

Poking around the Draft circles and found out this RB will be in Indy –
    Rachaad White 6’2″ / 210 – AZ State.
Keep an eye on this kid. Big, blocks and catches.

Kinda snuck up from small school obscurity and landed in AZ for about a year and a 1/2.
Anxious to see how he competes in Indy – Could be a late RD steal like EMitch?

  20. NJ49ER says:

Another sleeper projection – Will be in Indy also. BIG Safety that returns kicks?
    Juanyeh Thomas – GA Tech 6’3″ / 217 – 130 Tkls and 4 INTs to boot.
Almost like having another LB on the field, which is a needed commodity with all these mobile QBs.

  21. NJ49ER says:

Another tackling machine from the BIG Safety venue – Small school guy that doesn’t appear on the Combine list –
    UDFA / Later RD sleeper?

  22. NJ49ER says:

Another guy to watch for in Indy –
    Center Cam Jurgens – 6’3″ – 290 / Nebraska
