Is There a Ford in Our Future?

For those of us oldsters, that used to be their tag line. Dee (First on Race Day) Ford received his $4.6 million injury payout. You’d think that would be bad news, but it isn’t. Mainly because we can recoup $7 million in salary cap space if we release him after June 1st. But that means we have to wait till after June 1st to realize the money. Meanwhile trying to extend Deebo and Bosa to new lucrative deals.

Me? I wonder what becomes of Raheem Mostert. He’s an outstanding back when he’s on the field, but being there is a challenge. His price may stay low due to his injury history. Laken Tomlinson? DJ Jones? Jason Verrett? Well, he gone. K’Waun Williams? Jaquiski Tartt? Ross Dwelley? Marcell Harris? Jeff Wilson? Jordan Willis? K Street? Arden Key? Demetrius FF?

No matter how you slice it, the 49ers have a shit-ton of free agents. Most of the guys listed, and there are about 10 more, restricted or otherwise, contributed big and small to our success last season. Some we really need to sign. Then there are restricted guys, like Jauan Jennings, Azeez Al-Shaair, Kevin Givens, and JaMichael Hasty.

Off the top of my head, I’d let Jeff Wilson, Jason Verrett, Ross Dwelley, and K Street go. Mostert can hopefully stay on the field. Verrett will never have another injury-free season. Woerner is fine as the backup TE. And with Bosa, AA, Givens, Key, Kinlaw, Ebukan, Omenihu, and DJ Jones in the fold, we still have amble depth on the defensive line.

So, keep Tomlinson, Mostert, DJ, Tartt, KWilliams, Harris, Willis, and Demetrius FF. The restricted guys we should be able to keep w/o too much scratch.

Sooo, we need to nail down a deal with Jimmy. I wonder what happens if Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers stick with their teams. That should create a little more value for Jimmy G as this is a pretty thin QB class, and the free agent pool is drained. Unless Andy Dalton, Cam Newton, or Tyrod Taylor floats your boat.

Hey, maybe we CAN get a 1st round pick for Jimmy. I’m holding my breath for Denver. Or the Washington Generals. John Lynch and Paraag Marathe need to hit the books and figure out how to wrangle money out of the Santa Clara mudflats to keep a lot of these guys.

Oh yeah, and sign Dante Fowler. Maybe we can trade with Atl. Matty Ice has played himself out, so work out some kind of deal.

  2. Winder says:

That is a lot of players to deal with this year. Most of those players I am not sure how any of them feel. It’s most likely all about the money. We really have to draft good this year.

  3. unca_chuck says:

Jones and Tomlinson have stated they want to stay. The other 38 guys, I’m not sure either..

They have to be kind of excited to be here. We were pretty close, and there sure aren’t any dominant teams in the NFL anymore..

    Mostert is a FL guy.
If McDaniel wants him in Miami, I’d think it’s as good as done.
Armstead and Ward restructuring is almost imperative IMO as well.
I’d even try to package either for younger cheaper options if it meant a little room for a top flight CB G or C.
Heavy depth in April Draft for DL and DBs too.
Won’t be hard to snag a young DE or S if they want to go there.
Paraag is pretty good at the business side of things.
Time to see what happens next.

I think Tyrod Taylor would be an ideal FÃ signing and with new coach Anthony Lynn long relationship with him going back to the Bills in 2015 and together with the Chargers and Taylor’s similar game with Lance will help him develop further along,a good match imo..

We got to get someone. He’s decent enough

    • Winder says:

Yeah, I think that would be a perfect fit. For one thing all our qb’s that play are probably gonna get hurt at some point. And Sudfield(sp) might not be with us this year.

My idea of a Ford is Fucked over royal by Detroit

  8. Irish Kevin says:

I have yet to see an analysis talk about the Niners Oline, that line is maybe two steps above Joe Barrows O line. Trey is still going to take time to read Defenses and he is not going to be able to do that if the O line is a sieve. Draft/trade for some guys who can pass protect. Another good example is Mahomes, I am sure he is advocating for some better protection.

  9. Irish Kevin says:

I think if Cincy had any kind of an OLine they would have beat the Rams. Maybe

  10. unca_chuck says:

Yep. They were entirely exposed. Much like KC the last couple years. Then again, so were we. Although I hated the way we played into the Rams defensive strength in the NFC Championship game.

    Dumb dumb dumb.

    New thread is up.
