Quite the extravaganza for football fans this week. Yesterday had the Raiders Browns tilt that saw Big Dick Nick almost pull out his victory. Instead, the Raiders kept their faint playoff hope alive by winning on a 47 yard FG.

The late game saw the Vikings completely get flummoxed by the entire backup defensive backfield of the Chicago Bears. Unreal game that saw Chicago not only shoot themselves in the feet numerous times, but then they cut their arms and legs off to seal the deal. They outgained the Vikings, and held Cousins to 84 yards. Chicago got nearly 200 more yards than the Vikes, nad even got a pick, but they turned the ball over 3 times, including the dreaded muffed punt, and had 3 gigantic penalties, a big fight, and a couple ejections. The Morons of the Midway.

The refs were letting everything pretty much go until a few questionable calls went against the Bears and Matt Nagy. He joined in the fun and got a personal foul of his own. Justin Fields was all over the place, and the Bears were God-like between the 20s but their 7 trips to the red zone, they turned the ball over 3 times on downs, had 2 fumbles, and a blocked FG. It was only until the LAST play of the game that the Beards came up with a TD.

Matt Nagy looks to be gone, but the Bears played very hard, if not utterly stupid. That being said, I want to sign EVERYONE in the Bears secondary. They had no notice and they all came up huge. How good are the starters if these backups were so solid?

Thursday of course is our tilt on a short week, and on the road as we travel to Tennessee to play the Derrick Henry-less Titans. They are certainly a different team without Henry, and Tannehill certainly can throw picks with the best of them as he leads the league with 14. Tied with Lawrence and Burrow.

Our resurgent outcast, Jimmy G, vilified by this very guy has really turned his shit around as he played his most complete game in a long time against those Bengals, and especially the Falcons. After 8 TDs 5 picks, and 2 lost fumbles in his first 5 games, Jimmy has settled down with 10 TDs, 3 picks, and no lost fumbles in his last 6 games.

Gone as well were the high throws that plagued Jimmy throughout this season. The run game has really started clicking with Wilson back to fine fettle, and others coming back to heathiness.

We will see what Thursday brings, but I like the team’s chances now rather than 8 weeks ago. AZ is stumbling, and Rams still have a game against us, and we are getting hot at the right time.

Jimmy had time to throw vs the Falcons. Of course he looked good. Look how Tom Brady looked this week when he didn’t have his usual time to throw. The QB gets a lot of blame bit it is a team game.

Jimmy is a good QB. Is he great, no but he is better than most and we can definitely win with him.

Bosa said Lance is picking the D apart on the scout team. I still say the safe bet was Mac Jones but sometimes I just want to be wrong. This is one of those times. I hope Lance is all that in time.

    • Winder says:

Me too on Lance. A pocket passer in this league needs a solid Oline and with injuries that is hard to do for a whole season. I don’t truly know if Lance has that it factor but I do know he’s a level headed good kid and I wouldn’t change that pick if I could.

      • Berger says:

Jones will most likely be offensive rookie of the year. Still, it can’t be said who the correct pick should’ve been for at least 3 yrs and probably more like 5. My biggest problem with Lance is he throws way too hard to maximize his efficiency. I hope eventually gets a feel for that.

      • unca_chuck says:

I think the pro game is too fast for Lance right now and he’s rushing things. He has touch and can make a lot off different throws. He needs reps reps and more reps. I wouldn’t mind at all seeing Jimmy for one more year if he does well enough.

      • Berger says:

I would rather see Lance next year but if Jimmy needed to stay, for whatever reason, I would be OK with that for one more year.

    • unca_chuck says:

Yeah, I liked Lance from the get-go. I just think he has the skill to be a Russell Wilson type. I REALLY didn’t like the way Shanny used him in that AZ game but that was hopefully an anomaly. Otherwise I don’t want Shanny coaching him. But who knows? Maybe Jimmy has found his mojo after all this adversity, he wins the Super Bowl and stays for another year.

Jimmy was under some duress and got passes out while being hit, so there’s that.

Can we win out? If so, that Ram game could very well determine the 5th spot in the playoffs.

      • Berger says:

Shanahan went through a major slump with his play calling for a few games earlier this year. Trying to use Lance seemed to be a factor. I agree that the way he was used against AZ was really bad. If the kid can’t throw, then why did we draft him so high? I think Kyle saw the same thing eventually because he has gotten his rhythm back as a play caller. I think trying to work Lance in was throwing Kyle’s rhythm off and I sure hope when Lance makes his next start, we don’t see that kind of game plan again that we saw against AZ.

Yeah, I don’t think Jimmy G sticks around, but the way this season is going, anyone can get hot at the right time and sweep through the playoffs. If it is the Niners, would they move on from Jimmy? I don’t think so. Sure, it’s highly unlikely but hey Brad Johnson Super Bowl winning QB?

  3. Winder says:

Lance will probably need another year to really grasp what he needs to do. He is young and really didn’t play much ball in collage.

  4. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Especially for a guy like him, the NFL is multitudes faster than what he’s used to. He has the tools. He just needs to develop them in a somewhat controlled environment. Fields is trying too hard, ZWilson is entering roadkill territory and isn’t really getting anywhere by getting pummeled. Same with Lawrence. Mac Jones of c0urse ended up in a perfect spot to overtake the last immobile guy, Tom Brady.

Some guys respond (Aikman, Josh Allen). A lot of 1st round guys don’t (Couch, Vince, Manziel, anyone the Browns drafted, Tebow, Hot Tub Matt, etc etc etc). Even still J Allen is struggling much more now than he was last year at this time.

Very hard to see in the future to grade these guys.

  5. unca_chuck says:

That being said, even one year on the sidelines is immense in Lance’s growth as a QB. Bosa praised him wildly somewhere..Maybe I heard it here.

Man, this booster shot is kicking my ass.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Like the passes at 4:58 and 5:30.. That’s the kind of touch he needs to develop.

8:25 as well. He jams it in there when he needs to.

The long ones are great but when you are that wide open it’s pretty easy to make those throws.

    • Winder says:

I think running the opposing teams reps has probably done wonders for him. Like you said lots of 1st year QB’s struggle. Manning comes to mind and I don’t think Aikman did very well in his first year or so. What I think is probably an issue is relying on his legs so much.

  7. unca_chuck says:

    Hope we get Al-Shaair back.

    Dre Greenlaw LB Groin Out
    Talanoa Hufanga S Knee Out
    Maurice Hurst DL Calf Out
    Elijah Mitchell RB Knee Out
    Azeez Al-Shaair LB Elbow Questionable
    Jaquiski Tartt S Limited Probable

  8. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, looking at Jimmy’s contract, he’;s gone. The Niners would recoup all buty $1.4 mill of his $27 mill deal next year. Which means money to sign Deebo/Bosa and a kicker..

    • Winder says:

The way he’s finishing out the year they just might get a little draft capital for him also. I think NE just might give us back a 2 for him.

  9. alleykat69 says:

49ers well represented in the Pro Bowl with 5 players selected…Samuel,Kittle,Bosa,Juice&Williams!
7 more were chosen 2nd team Alternates led by Warner,Ward,Armstead,Mack,Cannon (ST) the punter Mitch Wish upon a star ⭐️ and I don’t remember number 7 maybe Tartt?
