There’s a new sheriff in town, and his name is Trey Lance. Kyle Shanahan decided not to follow last year’s path of throwing an injured and ineffective calf-inflicted Jimmy G into a game and watching him throw picks and flail and lose. Of course, now we have Lance, not The Beater or BDN. As usual though we are down a tight end, George Kittle is nursing a calf injury of his own that will sideline him for 3 weeks. And of course our kicker also hurt himself warming up.
Too much ice time? Our former NHL training staff doesn’t seem to be helping the cause, but who knows? Jeff Wilson blew out his knee in the locker room for fuck’s sake. Maybe they should rethink their personnel there.
But, on the field we have our new quarterback getting his first start. The recent track new guys so far is not very heartening.
Trey Lawrence: 0-4
Zach Wilson: 1-3
Justin Fields: 1-1
Mac Jones: 1-3
The wins of course are Tennessee, the Jets, and Detroit. We are playing the 4-0 Cardinals. But we nominally have a better foundation to work from. Trey Sermon is running well, and, uh, Samuel has had some nice games. The offense is struggling badly though. AZ is bad against the run, so I don’t expect to see a high-flying aerial attack, but Shanny HAS to take advantage of Lance’s deep ball ability.
Teams are playing us just like the bad old days of smash-mouth drop-your-pants football of Gore left, Gore right, Gore up the middle, punt. 9 in the box. 10 on the line. Samuel has already caught a couple nice deep passes. Do it 3-4 times a game, not a season.
The D is doing well enough to win games. Barring the fucking Green Bay debacle. ButKinlaw is questionable, Greenlaw is still out, and Warner is the only guy that can keep Murray under some kind of control. We NEED a pass rush from the outside, and we can’t lose contain on the edges. Like we always do with mobile QBs. The Rams did great on controlling Wilson by doing just that. Set the edge so there’s a long way to run just to GET outside, and have the LBs pursue.
We’ve done fairly well against Murray and Kliff Klavin, so we’ll see.
Lance with that low 3/4 delivery is always going to have a lot of passes knocked down.
What a nightmare this season is turning into.
Shanahan can stick it up his ass with terrible play calling, burning valuable TO’s , the play with Juice was a joke the Cards sniffed it out immediately and put 2 defenders right over the center, wtf bootleg with Lance are hand it off to Mitchell who’s was pounding the ball hard, fed up with Shanahan and his unimaginative schemes..
Refs were severely out of control today. 95% of them on the Niners. Lance has a bit of work to do hitting passes on the move. To say the least. And Shanny is following in is father’s footsteps though in sacrificing his mobile QB to a ton of carnage. RG III redux.
Still and all another game that could have been won if not for bad 4th down play calls and stupid read-pass option shit that did nothing but lose yards. The defense was solid but for a couple breakdowns in coverage. We had solid pressure for the most part and stopped their runs, and even Murray didn’t hurt too bad, but a loss is a loss.Last place. 0-2 in the division.
That’s the kick in the groin Chuck, 0-2 in the Division.
Granted it’s early and, it ain’t so much how you start, it’s how you finish in this game.
BUT….
I’ll join the chorus and repeat the point the point that Shanny has been exposed.
Kingsbury gets the ball everywhere and forces the D to react.
Shanny allows the D to sit on his tendencies and win the chess game, more often than not.
Trey will settle down with game reps but, I’m already seeing stories of Shanny giving the reigns back to Jimmeh once he’s off the owie list.
Not so sure one start and a week off helps Trey in any postive way.
DeAndre Hopkins gets away with PI on that deep pass that could have been picked. The one last week on Warner was 1/10 the contact but extended the Seattle drive.
Once again, the play breaks down for Lance and the deep pass catcher is the fullback. Benjamin and Sanu got the nod over Aiyuk to start. I’m starting to wonder if Shanahan has a power complex. He’s not putting the best guys on the field. And the play calling once again was atrocious. All of the 4th down calls were terrible. Lance did miss Mitchell on the roll out that he tried to power in. He should have kept his eyes up.
But hey, it only took 53 minutes to throw a ball deep. Fuck this.
Definite homer flagfest with the zebras today. Chuck the flag and huddle to decide what should be called?
The great equalizer on the betting line. OFFICIATING.
Shanahan can’t get around his own ego. It’s proving to be his undoing.
This KC Buff game is 12 minutes old and there have been 11 penalties?
And in the time it took to write this there have been 3 more.
New thread is up.
