Cut List Surprise

Color me baffled. The 49ers cut Ha Ha Clinton-Dix among the guys to be shuffled off to Fed Ex to meet the 53 man roster. Here’s the list:

Hokit and Kelememte are likely headed for the taxi squad but Dix played a solid safety all preseason. Benjamin is OK, but Jennings has dropped a lot of passes, Hurd is pretty much a non-entity, but Sherfeld came on strong, and Sanu did as well. I get that, but not sure what the Niners are thinking with the safety position.

I guess they feel really good about Talano Hufanga. Yes, he’s a star in the making, but Dix would be a solid backup, and tavon Wilson is not on my radar as being much more than adequate. Jaquiski Tartt is ‘making strides’ to play opening day, and yes he’s a very good safety. When he’s on the field.

Other than that, we traded LB Jonas Griffith and a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to the Broncos for their 2022 sixth-round draft pick and a 2023 seventh-round draft pick.

Speaking of pricks, Nick Bosa finally got vaccinated. This was beginning to piss me off, as he could have fucked up a game or 3 for the team.

Hurd & Jennings make the cut.
Thought for sure one would have been shown the door.
More surprised about Benjamin and Brendel TBH.
    Good problems to have finally.
    Pretty solid roster remains.
    P-Squad will add several more.

I’m more surprised they cut Webster and kept Hurd.
Webster was very versatile with outstanding speed , that could of handled both kickoffs and punt returns, along with jet sweeps etc.
Hurd is only on the team cause Shanny doesn’t want to lose face after drafting him and probably just doesn’t want him to end up either with Seahawks,Rams are Cardinals..
2 drops couldn’t line up properly whatever he’s still a bust but he’s Shanny’s problem for now..

Agree about Shanny and Hurd AK.
Thought for sure Hurd was toast v Jennings.
      Jauan is P-Squad eligible.
Things are never what they seem I guess?

We never get to see or hear about the full practice sessions which is why the knowledgeable guys here, and there’s a handful, get surprised by decisions.
I dont buy Shanny saving face with Hurd, Shanny is unassailable and doesn’t give a rats ass who is second guessing him.

He also had 4 catches on Sunday. He clearly has a long way to go, but his physical talent was too tempting for Shanahan and I expected the Niners to keep him once he showed he could play in that game and not get injured. Now the real work for him begins.

And I agree, 12th, Shanahan doesn’t give two shits about saving face. He’s just intrigued with Hurd’s possibilities. We’ll see how it plays out.

  4. NJ49ER says:

Like Trent Taylor, injury issues take their tole.
Hurd was a higher Draft choice and likely survives another Rd of cuts because of it?
Either way, he’s got 9 lives I guess, as he hasn’t done squat thus far as a game day contributor.

Glad to see Hasty making the team. He earned it and has the makings of a very solid NFL RB. Gallman is a good football player, but Hasty is younger, cheaper and shiftier. I’ve liked the kid since he caught on with the 49ers. He looked great on Sunday.

The running game has a good chance to dominate this year and that will make things easier for Garoppolo.

  6. unca_chuck says:

Gallman didn’t impress me the way Hasty did. So I like that call. And I’m with John. I think Hurd just has the promise to be outstanding. Jennings iirc dropped a lot of passes these preseason games. They must see something we don’t..

They’ve had a lot of up-and-down drafts so I don’t think Hurd’s position saves him. One more injury though and he’s done.

The running game has a good chance to lay a fat juicy turd this season and that will makes things easier for Jimmy IRappolo to get pummeled in the backfield

With a 16 man PS we are gonna be stocked and i think most of our serious cuts will be back. I agree that we don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes. I do believe Shanny is a winner but that he gets complacent and at times doesn’t go for the juggler. But, i think most run first HC’s are like that. Hurd and Jennings are big dudes and that means something when blocking and YAC. I was surprised about Nisimba(sp) but hopefully he lands on our PS.

  10. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, Webster looked like someone we could use on special teams. Webster was claimed by the Bears, Shepley to the (surprise) Seahawks and Hilliard to the GIants.

Jordan Matthews is on our PS. This will all be figured out tomorrow.

  11. Lurker John says:

With the Giants absolutely shitting the bed, I’m beyond ready for the NFL season to start. GO NINERS!

    • Winder says:

Me too. The Giants should rebound but without pitching we are not going very far. What a ride it’s been so far though. Totally Jazzed about this coming season and I think the only reason we would falter is to many injuries so I just got my fingers crossed. Love how the Niners look.

      • Lurker John says:

Yup. If they have any kind of good fortune at all on the injury front, this should be one hell of a good football team. Most “pundits” are underselling them if you ask me. I think 13 wins is a reasonable expectation. This franchise is long overdue for a relatively healthy season.

  12. unca_chuck says:

Yeah, lots of pundits calling them overrated and shit like that. The proof is in the pudding but I think this team can kill with the run game they have built. Play action should be our biggest weapon for big plays..I just hope Shanny does more 1st down passing. He gets predictable on that.

I would trip balls though if they go with the alternating QB deal. I don’t think they will do it but then again, I think Shanny feels like he can get away with anything offensively.

Might not be a bad idea just to throw it out there these first two games with the Lions and Iggles.
